Launched in 2015 as the second Quantum Class ship, Anthem spent her first decade as Britain's favourite Royal Caribbean vessel, sailing from Southampton — before Royal redeployed her in 2025 into the fleet's most glamorous commute. Each southern summer, roughly November through April, she is Sydney's hometown ship, docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal with the Opera House across the water, running everything from two-night weekenders to long South Pacific and New Zealand voyages. Each northern summer she crosses to Seattle for seven-night Alaska runs — Sitka, Skagway, Juneau, and scenic glacier cruising at Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier.
What separates her from her sisters, though, happens after dinner. Anthem carries We Will Rock You, the Olivier Award-winning West End musical built around 24 Queen hits — performed, as on all Royal main stages, with a live orchestra, never playback — making her the only ship in her class with a licensed blockbuster musical. Add Spectra's Cabaret, the robotic-screen spectacle in Two70, and The Gift, and she has the strongest evening lineup of the five. The full Quantum toolkit is aboard too: the North Star, iFLY, SeaPlex, the Bionic Bar. And in one detail her fans defend with surprising energy: the class's only Johnny Rockets.
Her commute is itself a booking opportunity most people miss. The transpacific repositioning voyages between Sydney and Seattle run around 25 nights — island-hopping across the Pacific at some of the lowest per-night rates Royal Caribbean publishes, because repositioning cruises always are. If you have the time, it's the fleet's best-kept long-voyage secret. If you don't, at least now you know why her fares spike and dip with the seasons.

Her Australian seasons run from two-night weekend escapes and 3–4 night coastal getaways (Eden on the NSW coast, Hobart in Tasmania) up to longer South Pacific and New Zealand itineraries. She docks at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay — arguably the most spectacular berth in world cruising. Select sailings even carry Wiggles-themed programming, an exclusive for the Australian family market.
Seattle — Alaska
Seven-night Alaska voyages calling at Sitka, Skagway and Juneau, with the glacier-cruising morning the route is famous for, plus a Victoria, BC stop. The Quantum toolkit — North Star over the ice, Two70's wall of glass, a warm Solarium — was practically drawn for this route. The 25-night transpacific crossings bookend each season.
Same ship, two completely different products — and two different booking games. Her Sydney short breaks sell like weekend hotel stays and price accordingly; her Alaska weeks compete with every premium line in Seattle. The arbitrage: Australians get the class's cheapest North Star rides on two-night weekenders, while Americans comparing Alaska should price Anthem against Ovation for the same route — the show lineup here is better, and the fare often is too.

The Anthem-versus-Ovation question is 2026's real Alaska decision, and it splits cleanly. Ovation has the amplified interiors and the Cruisetours; Anthem has We Will Rock You and, typically, the friendlier fare. If the land-tour extension into interior Alaska matters, Ovation earns her premium. If your perfect glacier day ends with a live orchestra playing Bohemian Rhapsody, this is not a difficult call.

In Alaska the Solarium is the ship's best real estate by 9am. In the South Pacific it's the escape from the pool deck. Either way: go early.
No waterslides — class-wide — and no Royal Amplified refit on record. She does have the class's only Johnny Rockets, plus Wonderland, Jamie's Italian, the Bionic Bar and virtual balconies.

The Johnny Rockets exclusivity is pure trivia until you have kids aboard, at which point it becomes infrastructure. Milkshakes settle arguments no parent can.

The honest take
What we tell clients before they book this particular ship.
Getting to her is the real cost. A ship that alternates between Sydney and Seattle is, by definition, never cheap to reach from wherever you are. Australians pay to fly nowhere; Americans pay to fly to Seattle; everyone else pays properly. Her fares are frequently excellent — the flights are where the budget goes, so price the whole trip, not the cruise line's number.
She's eleven years old and un-amplified. Like Quantum, Anthem hasn't had a Royal Amplified refit, so her interiors are largely original 2015 — well-kept, but visibly a generation behind Ovation's rebuilt spaces. The toolkit doesn't age; the soft furnishings do. If newest-and-freshest is the priority, that's Ovation's argument, and it's a fair one.
And her split personality demands date discipline. Reviews of her Sydney weekenders describe a floating party hotel; reviews of her Alaska weeks describe a scenic cathedral. Both are accurate and neither describes the other. Before you book — and before you believe anything you read about her — check which ship she's being that month. The class-wide footnote applies too: no waterslides, and the slide-counting members of your party should be told before boarding, not after.
When to book Anthem of the Seas
The Northeast's drive-to Quantum ship — which means school calendars, not fare algorithms, drive the good weeks.

- Book 6–12 months out for cabin selection, earlier for family cabins in peak weeks
- Shoulder-season sailings from New Jersey are consistently her best value
- Bermuda itineraries sell faster than her Caribbean weeks — treat those as the earlier booking
The drive is the whole argument. If you're in the Northeast, price Anthem against a Florida sailing with flights for everyone travelling. Skipping four or five airfares usually beats any fare gap between ships — and it's why she's often the smartest booking in the class rather than the newest.
The verdict
The best evenings in the class, in the two best places she could spend them.
Anthem took the Quantum formula and added the thing her sisters lack: a genuine blockbuster. We Will Rock You with a live orchestra, Spectra's Cabaret in a room made of screens, and a year split between Sydney Harbour and southeast Alaska — no other ship in the fleet keeps a diary like hers. For Australians she's the hometown flagship; for Alaska cruisers she's the entertainment upgrade nobody prices in; for long-voyage romantics her 25-night Pacific crossings are the sleeper booking of the fleet.
Book her knowing the costs: flights that match her ambitions, original-2015 interiors awaiting a refit that hasn't been announced, and a personality that changes completely with the hemisphere. If you want the freshest Alaska hardware, book Ovation; if you want the Caribbean, book Odyssey or an Oasis ship. But if your trip lives on her map — and especially if it ends with Queen and a live orchestra — book Anthem and don't overthink it.
Bottom line: the ship that commutes between the Opera House and the glaciers — and packs a West End musical for the trip.
