The Showdowns

Two cruise options, one honest answer. Every showdown scores the real fit — not which is "better," but which is built for your trip. We decode, we don't rank.

Type 01

Line vs. line

Whole cruise lines, head to head — the matchups people actually search before they book. Each one scores nine or ten categories, prices the real cost honestly, and ends with who should pick which.

Royal Caribbean vs. Carnival

Spectacle vs. permission

The most-searched matchup in cruising. One sells the biggest ships ever built; the other sells the freedom to just relax and have fun. Scored honestly.

Carnival vs. MSC Cruises

The real value rivalry

Two lines fighting for the exact same cruiser, dollar for dollar — the fun-food default versus the European value play. Closer than you'd think.

Royal Caribbean vs. Norwegian

Scale vs. freedom

Two lines born of the same 1966 Miami moment, now selling opposite philosophies at nearly the same price. Bundled value versus record-breaking hardware.

Celebrity vs. Princess

Two moonshots, one that landed

Both premium lines bet big on what "elevated" means. Celebrity's modest-looking bet overdelivered; Princess made the bolder promise and is still catching up to it. Here's which fits your trip.

Royal Caribbean vs. Disney

More ship per dollar vs. the bought guarantee

The family-cruise question. One gives you the most hardware afloat for the fare; the other sells a promise Disney has kept for a century. Scored honestly.

Royal Caribbean vs. MSC

Same ocean, different continent aboard

The megaship rivalry nobody frames right — an American theme park at sea vs. a European ocean liner at scale, often hundreds of dollars apart.

Virgin Voyages vs. Celebrity

Burned the rulebook vs. renovated it

Two answers to 'make cruising feel current': adults-only reinvention from scratch, or the boutique-hotel remodel of the premium playbook.

Holland America vs. Princess

The classic preserved vs. digitized

The two heritage lines for grown-up cruising — one kept the classic voyage intact, the other rebuilt it around the Medallion.

How to read a showdown

Every Seabound showdown is built on one principle: value is the answer to a question, not a price. We don't crown winners, because there aren't any — only the right fit for a specific trip. The scorecards measure fit, not quality, which is why you'll see genuine ties and why the "loser" of a category is often just built for a different traveler.

Each page walks the same path: a one-question test to point you fast, a category-by-category scorecard, an honest section naming the real trade-offs, and a "who should pick which" that tells you plainly where you land. Read the one that matches your decision — and if you're still torn, every page ends with a way to ask.
