Reviewed October 15, 2026. Part of our drinks, gratuities and Wi-Fi comparison. US-market prices per person per day, before you sail, unless we say otherwise.
The sticker price is the least interesting number on a drink package.
What matters is the service charge on top, the drink-price ceiling, the daily limit, who else in the cabin has to buy it and whether it works on the line’s own island. This page puts all of that side by side.
How many drinks a day before a package pays?
Put in what a drink costs on your ship and how many you’ll really have. We add the service charge to every drink you’d buy, then set that against each package’s all-in daily price.
At 4 drinks a day and $13.00 a drink, 1 of 10 packages pay for themselves. The rest cost more than ordering by the drink.
- Norwegian Free at Sea open barPackage pays
Pays for itself at 1.9 drinks a day $28.50 package gratuity on 6+ night sailings, before any Free at Sea fare premium
- Holland America SignaturePay as you go
Pays for itself at 4.4 drinks a day $55.95 + 20%
- Holland America ElitePay as you go
Pays for itself at 4.7 drinks a day $60.95 + 20%
- Princess Plus Beverage PackagePay as you go
Pays for itself at 5.0 drinks a day $64.99 + 20%
- Carnival CHEERS!Pay as you go
Pays for itself at 5.4 drinks a day $69.95 + 20%
- Celebrity ClassicPay as you go
Pays for itself at 5.4 drinks a day midpoint of reported $54.99–$84.99, + 20%
- MSC Premium ExtraPay as you go
Pays for itself at 5.5 drinks a day reported $85 prepaid, 18% included
- Celebrity PremiumPay as you go
Pays for itself at 5.9 drinks a day midpoint of reported $59.99–$92.99, + 20%
- Royal Caribbean DeluxePay as you go
Pays for itself at 6.3 drinks a day midpoint of reported sale prices $71.99 and $91.99, + 18%
- Princess Premier Beverage PackagePay as you go
Pays for itself at 6.6 drinks a day $84.99 + 20%
This counts alcoholic drinks only. Specialty coffee, bottled water and juice are worth something too, and the packages differ a lot on those, so check the matrix before you decide. Norwegian’s figure leaves out any Free at Sea fare premium.
01Every package at a glance
“Reported” means a dated secondary source, not the cruise line’s own page. Where a line doesn’t publish a price, we show the range and never turn one sale into a fleetwide number.

02Line by line
The details that change the answer, with the fine print each line actually publishes.
Royal Caribbean
- Covers cocktails, beer and wine up to about $14 a drink, plus soda, specialty coffee and bottled water 275. Starbucks is the one venue it skips 28.
- No daily limit. Every adult in the cabin buys it, for the whole sailing 28.
- Price moves by sailing and by the day you look in Cruise Planner; sales are common 5. A $91.99 example we’ve used for pricing was Icon of the Seas’ inaugural sailing, so treat it as a past sale, not today’s rate.
- Packages bought after March 15, 2026 no longer include the souvenir cup; it’s now $4.99 on its own 29.
- Works at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Coco Beach Club included. At Royal Beach Club Paradise Island everyone needs a day pass, package or not 2830.
Worth it if: you’ll have five or more drinks a day and the Cruise Planner price for your sailing is near the low end of the range.
Celebrity
- Classic covers drinks up to $12 and Premium up to $19, with the difference charged above that 11. Celebrity’s All Included FAQ still shows older limits, so trust the drinks FAQ 12.
- No daily limit. All guests of legal drinking age in the cabin must buy the same package 11.
- Bought on its own, 20% is added. Inside an All Included fare, Classic and its service charge come with the fare, and Premium is a $20 a day upgrade 1112.
- Want Wi-Fi too? The Ultimate Bundle pairs Premium drinks with Premium Wi-Fi for two devices. On one sailing we checked in October 2026, Cruise Planner had it at $100.99 a day in a flash sale (from $135), with Premium alone at $91.99 and Classic at $84.99, all before the 20%. Premium Access, at $104.99, adds room service and other perks 10.
- Works at CocoCay. Doesn’t transfer to Royal Beach Club Santorini 1131.
Worth it if: you want specialty coffee and bottled water in the price and you’re already booking an All Included fare.
Norwegian
- The bar comes with Free at Sea; you pay the package gratuity: $28.50 a day on six nights or more, $32 on two to five nights since May 1, 2026 113.
- No per-drink cap in the current terms, though premium “Connoisseur’s Collection” drinks only get $15 off. Two drinks per person per order. Everyone in the cabin takes the same offer 114.
- The base bar leaves out Starbucks, bottled water and energy drinks 1.
- Free at Sea Plus, $49.99 a day on top, adds premium spirits and wines by the glass, Starbucks, fresh juice, energy drinks, bottled water, streaming Wi-Fi and the prepaid crew charge 3233. It doesn’t replace the $28.50.
- Works at Great Stirrup Cay; Norwegian dropped a plan to stop that in March 2026. Not at Harvest Caye 134.
Worth it if: you drink standard cocktails or beer most of the day. Then it’s the cheapest bar at sea, as long as the Free at Sea fare isn’t padded.
MSC
- The broadest standalone menu here: specialty coffee, fresh juice, energy drinks, bottled water and sparkling wine by the glass 2.
- Beverage gratuities are in the price. Reported at $85 a day prepaid and $98 onboard on sailings of seven nights or more, $88 and $101 on shorter ones 23.
- 15 alcoholic drinks a day, 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Spirits are reported to top out around $16 23.
- Everyone in the cabin buys a package; children get the Minors package 35. Yacht Club suites include Premium Extra 2.
- Works at Ocean Cay with a smaller menu 2.
Worth it if: you like variety, from espresso to a glass of prosecco, and you’ll stay inside 15 drinks a day.
Carnival
- $69.95 a day before you sail, $74.95 onboard, plus 20% 16.
- Drinks priced up to $20 are covered, and pricier ones get 25% off. 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hours, one at a time, with ten minutes between orders 16.
- Every adult in the cabin buys it, for the whole cruise. Not sold on two-day cruises 16.
- Doesn’t work at Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays 16.
- From December 1, 2026, Carnival prices packages and Wi-Fi by sailing instead of one rate 3637.
Worth it if: you want a higher drink-price ceiling and won’t mind the pacing rules.
Princess
- Plus Beverage is $64.99 and Premier Beverage $84.99 a day, with 20% added 18.
- Plus covers drinks up to $15 and counts 15 alcoholic drinks a day. Premier covers drinks up to $20, with no alcohol limit for packages bought since August 2024 1920. Bottled water is capped at 12 a day 20.
- The same drinks come cheaper inside the Princess Plus ($70) and Premier ($105) fare packages, which add Wi-Fi and crew appreciation. Inside Princess Plus, the 15-a-day count includes sodas 3839.
- Premier works at Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay, not Celebration Key 20.
Worth it if: you buy it inside Princess Plus or Premier. On its own it’s rarely the best route.
Holland America
- Signature $55.95 and Elite $60.95 a day, plus 20% for sailings from June 1, 2026 2122.
- Signature covers drinks up to $12, 15 a day, and most soft drinks count toward the 15. Elite covers up to $16, with 15 alcoholic drinks a day and zero-proof drinks unlimited 4.
- Have It All, $65 a day ($60 for departures before summer 2027), includes Signature-level drinks, Surf Wi-Fi, specialty dinners and excursion credit 40.
- Doesn’t work at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay 4.
Worth it if: you take it through Have It All, where the Wi-Fi and dining come along.
Disney
- Soda at meals and the drink stations is free, along with coffee, tea, lemonade and juice 23.
- Alcohol is bought by the drink with 18% added 24. Pre-bought wine packs are reported from $105 for three bottles 23.
- Each adult can carry on one bottle of wine or six beers at embarkation, down from two bottles before June 2026 41.
Worth it if: you’re a light drinker. Free soda changes the math for families.
Virgin Voyages
- No unlimited package. Bar Tab credit comes with a bonus: $200 buys $225, $500 buys $600 and $1,000 buys $1,250 2542.
- No service charge on drinks. Water, fountain soda, drip coffee and tea are free 2625.
- Buy it before you sail; the cut-off is reported as 24 hours ahead, and unused credit is reported as non-refundable 25. Check the terms when you book.
- Premium VoyageFair fares are reported to add a $15 a night drinks credit 43. Bar Tab works at The Beach Club at Bimini 44.
Worth it if: you’ll have a few good cocktails a day, not a refill every hour.
03What each package actually includes
✓ means included, ½ means partly or not itemized by the line, — means not included. These are the six drinks that separate packages; beer, house wine and standard cocktails are in every one, so they don’t. The last two columns are the scores our value rankings use.
| Package | Premium / top-shelf spirits | Sparkling wine by the glass | Specialty coffee | Bottled water | Fresh-squeezed juice | Energy drinks | No daily alcohol limit | Soft drinks don't count toward a limit | Works at the line's private destination | Inclusions | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Norwegian · Free at Sea open bar | ½ | — | — | — | — | — | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | 0.8 | 10.0 |
| Norwegian · Free at Sea + Plus | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | 10.0 | 10.0 |

| Holland America · Elite | ✓ | ½ | ✓ | ✓ | ½ | ✓ | — | ✓ | — | 8.3 | 3.3 |
Princess’s Plus Beverage Package bought on its own counts only alcoholic drinks toward its 15 a day. Inside the Princess Plus fare package, sodas count too, which is why the two score differently in the rankings.
04Who in the cabin has to buy it
This is the rule that turns a reasonable daily rate into a big number. Count everyone in the room before you compare.
- Royal Caribbean: every guest of legal drinking age in the stateroom 28.
- Celebrity: all guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom; teens get a zero-proof package added 11.
- Norwegian: everyone in the cabin takes the same Free at Sea offer 1.
- MSC: every guest in the stateroom books a package, and minors need the Minors package 35.
- Carnival: every adult in the cabin, for the whole cruise 16.
- Holland America: every adult in the cabin 4.
- Disney and Virgin Voyages: no unlimited package, so no cabin rule.
We couldn’t confirm Princess’s cabin-mate rule from its published terms, so ask before you count on one person buying and another not.
05Does it work on the private island?
A beach day is where a lot of the drinking happens, and it’s where the rules differ most. For what each island is actually like, see our private islands and beach clubs comparison.
| Line | Private destination | Does the package work there? |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Caribbean | Perfect Day at CocoCay | Yes, Coco Beach Club included 28 |
| Royal Caribbean | Royal Beach Club Paradise Island | No. Everyone buys a day pass; the Open Bar pass includes drinks 3045 |
| Celebrity | CocoCay | Yes 11 |
| Celebrity | Royal Beach Club Santorini | No 31 |
| Norwegian | Great Stirrup Cay | Yes 134 |
| Norwegian | Harvest Caye | No 1 |
| MSC | Ocean Cay | Premium Extra yes, with a smaller menu 2 |
| Carnival | Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay, Princess Cays | No 16 |
| Princess | Princess Cays, Half Moon Cay | Premier yes; not at Celebration Key 20 |
| Holland America | RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay | No 4 |
| Virgin Voyages | The Beach Club at Bimini | Bar Tab works; soda and water are free 44 |
06When to buy, and when not to
- Before you sail, almost always. Carnival charges $5 more a day onboard, MSC about $13 more, and Princess adds $5 a day to Plus and Premier inside four days of sailing 16339.
- Watch for sales on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Both price by sailing, and the same package can swing by tens of dollars a day 59.
- Check the bundle first. Princess Plus and Premier, Holland America’s Have It All, Celebrity’s All Included and its Ultimate Bundle can beat the standalone package once you count the Wi-Fi and tips inside them. The rankings price both routes.
- Light drinker? Run the break-even finder before you buy anything. Two or three drinks a day rarely beats paying as you go once the service charge lands.
Q&AQuick answers
Which cruise line has the cheapest drink package?
Norwegian, through Free at Sea: the open bar costs a $28.50 package gratuity per day on sailings of six nights or more, or $32 on two to five nights. Other unlimited packages run about $67 to $102 a day once the service charge is added.
Do all adults in a cabin have to buy the drink package?
On most lines, yes. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival and Holland America require every adult in the cabin to buy it, Norwegian requires everyone to take the same offer, and MSC requires a package for every guest, with a Minors package for children.
Do cruise drink packages work on private islands?
It depends on the line. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity packages work at CocoCay, Norwegian’s at Great Stirrup Cay, MSC Premium Extra at Ocean Cay and Princess Premier at Princess Cays. Carnival’s CHEERS! and Holland America’s packages don’t work at their islands.
How many drinks a day do I need for a drink package to pay off?
Divide the package’s daily price, service charge included, by what one drink costs with its service charge. At $13 a drink plus 20%, an $84 package pays off at a little over five drinks a day. Norwegian’s $28.50 open bar pays off at about two.
Is MSC’s service charge included in the drink package?
Yes. MSC says beverage gratuities are included in its drink packages. Most other lines add 18% or 20% on top of the package price.
Want packages priced for your sailing?
Tell Seabound Journeys your ship and dates. We’ll check what the packages cost for that sailing and whether a fare bundle beats buying them on their own.
