Inside the ramparts, mostly

The evening before, in Avignon

Most of these six sit inside Avignon's walls or just outside them, a walk from the palace and the river. Le Prieuré is the exception, trading the old town for a pool across the Rhône.

How we chose

How the six were picked

None of these hotels claims a river view, and no line publishes the quay. So we chose for the walls, the station and the far bank instead.

Michelin's 2026 French list gives two Keys each to La Mirande and Le Prieuré, and their cards say so. The others are four- and five-star houses without a Key.

Rates didn't set the order. Where you'll spend the evening did.

Embarkation day

Before you leave for the quay

  1. 01

    Get the quay in writing

No line publishes its Avignon berth. Ask yours, then decide between walking and a taxi.

  2. 02

Use the Baladine for the palace, not the bags

The free electric shuttles circulate inside the walls. Handy between hotel and palace; not built for suitcases.

  3. 03

    From Villeneuve, book the car

Le Prieuré is on the far bank of the Rhône. Arrange the boarding-day taxi when you check in.

Quick answers

Avignon pre-cruise hotel questions

Which hotel is nearest the ships?

We can't say, because no line names the Avignon berth. Inside the walls, La Mirande, Hôtel d'Europe and the Mercure all keep the river within walking range.

Does Le Prieuré hold one Key or two?

Two, on Michelin's 2026 list for France. Michelin's own hotel page was slower to update, so you may still see one Key quoted elsewhere.

We arrive by TGV. Where should we stay?

Avignon Grand Hotel, on Boulevard Saint-Roch beside Avignon Centre. The shuttle from the TGV station arrives there.

If we book only one night, which hotel?

La Mirande, for the palace across the square and dinner in the house. Le Prieuré if a pool matters more than the view.
