Falmouth was built as a working port town in the 1700s and 1800s, and the restoration shows — Georgian courthouses, iron balconies and a market square, all inside a short walk of the ship.
One port guide puts the historic core about 20 minutes and half a mile from the pier, walkable on your own — another describes the same stretch as vendor-heavy past the gate, and recommends a guided trolley instead.
Disney's own version, Highlights of Falmouth and Greenwood Great House, runs 3 to 3.5 hours and adds a stop at Greenwood Great House and at Falmouth's largest Anglican church. A Wednesday sailing also catches the Bend-Down Market, Falmouth's open-air trading day, per Royal Caribbean's own guide to the port.

Why it's worth considering
It's the only thing in Falmouth you can start doing for free, immediately — the port sits inside the historic district. There's no transfer to plan around.
The catch
Two port guides describe the same short walk in opposite tones — one calls it easy, with free if slow Wi-Fi in the port; the other says there's no free Wi-Fi at all and warns about pushy vendors past the gate.
We won't pick a side. Carry cash, keep your expectations modest, and treat a guided version as the safer default.

This is Falmouth's river, not Ocho Rios's White River. The Martha Brae sits about three miles inland from Falmouth, roughly 20 miles from Montego Bay and 40 from Ocho Rios, per the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The Board describes 30-foot bamboo rafts poled by one of 85 licensed captains, an hour-long ride run this way for more than 40 years — Rafter's Village, the embarkation point, is six acres of pool, bar and souvenir shops, with a small herb garden on site. Disney's own Rafting on the Martha Brae runs 3 to 3.5 hours door to door, the total tour time.

- A short road transfer inland. No rideshare or public transport option was confirmed for this route.

- Either, in principle — Rafter's Village is a real gate with a real operator. A taxi both ways is the independent version; a ship tour is the version with the transfer already arranged.
Why it's worth considering
It's the one river activity here with an official operator and a published history, not a private outfit with no paper trail. An hour on a bamboo raft is genuinely gentle — it's the calmest thing on this list.
The catch
The raft ride is an hour — the tour around it is three to 3.5. Budget for the difference before you book, not after.

Norwegian's own listing runs 4 hours along three miles of the Martha Brae through Good Hope Estate, passing a 250-year-old bridge and aqueduct, per NCL. The tour adds Adventure Falls — a 50-foot waterfall, wading pools and a 300-foot waterslide — plus a jerk chicken lunch.
NCL prices it at $109.99 for an adult and $79.99 for a child, with a minimum age of 6 and a maximum weight of 300 lbs — the line excludes heart, neck or back conditions, and pregnancy. Disney sells similar products from Falmouth too — Adrenaline Zipline and River Tubing with Adventure Falls, Adventure Falls and River Tubing, Bamboo Beach Club & Jungle River Tubing — but none published a duration.

Why it's worth considering
One transfer buys the river, a real waterfall and a waterslide, not just the raft — it's the only water activity here with a hard weight limit stated up front. That tells you the ride is more physical than the calm raft.
The catch
The medical exclusions are specific: heart, neck or back conditions, and pregnancy, are all out. 300 lbs is a maximum — check it applies to nobody in your party before you pay.

Chukka's Falmouth-area operation sits inside Good Hope Estate, the same 2,000-acre property behind the rafting and tubing above.
One port guide describes zipline runs through forest canopy, ATV drives over rugged terrain, an Appleton Rum tasting and a bird aviary, all on the same grounds, about a 20-minute drive from the port — that's a single secondary source. Chukka's own site doesn't confirm it.
Disney sells a named Chukka Horseback Ride and Swim excursion here. Neither Disney nor Chukka published a duration for it.

Disney's Good Hope Family Estate excursion runs 3.5 to 4 hours and tours one of the best-preserved great houses in Jamaica, built on the island's sugar-producing history — Royal Caribbean's own guide to the port also names the Great House, gardens and bird aviary as things to do near Falmouth, without a price or duration attached.

It's the one Good Hope product built around slowing down, not speeding up, on an estate otherwise sold almost entirely on adrenaline.
The catch
You're touring a plantation-era great house. Some travelers want that history told plainly; ask what the tour actually covers before you assume.

Falmouth's lagoon glows blue-green when the water is disturbed. It only works after dark.
Glistening Waters Hotel, Restaurant & Marina runs the boats, with nightly departures at sunset and a ride of roughly 45 to 60 minutes across a lagoon 3 to 8 feet deep, swimming included — no bookable listing with a published duration exists on Royal Caribbean, Norwegian or Disney's own sites, though Royal Caribbean's consumer guide names the lagoon as something to do.
A July 2026 visitor review described the facilities as in decent shape, but noted Hurricane Melissa's aftermath was still visible around much of the bay — open and operating, not fully recovered.

- Check your line's excursion list first. Booking directly with the operator is possible in principle, but only if your ship's schedule supports getting back before all-aboard.
Why it's worth considering
It's the one thing in this port you genuinely cannot do during the day, on any excursion — that's a reason to build a call around it.
The catch
Most Caribbean itineraries run daytime calls. Confirm your ship's actual departure time before you assume an after-dark tour fits — this is a scheduling question first, a booking question second.
We found one dated review, from July 2026, describing lingering storm damage around the bay rather than a full recovery — treat that as the most current word we have, not the last.

Dunn's River Falls sits near Ocho Rios, in St. Ann parish — that's not Falmouth's own parish of Trelawny.
Getting there is a real transfer.
Here's the trap, stated plainly — Norwegian sells two differently named excursions from Falmouth. Ocho Rios Highlights runs 5.5 hours and, per NCL's own description, tours Fern Gully, Konoko Falls and a coffee stop — it never mentions Dunn's River Falls.
Best of Ocho Rios runs 7 hours and explicitly includes the falls, alongside the same Konoko Falls and Fern Gully stops. If you want the actual falls, book by that description, not by the word "Ocho Rios" in the title.
Disney sells two lengths that do include the falls: Dunn's River Falls Express at 4 to 4.5 hours, and Dunn's River Ultimate Adventure at 6 to 6.5 hours. One third-party Jamaican operator puts the drive itself at about an hour each way, with the climb taking roughly 45 minutes.
Treat that as an estimate, not an official figure.

Why it's worth considering
For travelers who haven't done Dunn's River from Ocho Rios directly, it's still the same climb and the same limestone terraces — Falmouth just adds the drive.
The catch
The naming trap above is the single most concrete thing to get right in this guide — read the description, not the headline.
This is also the longest day sold from this port. On a short call, it can eat the whole thing.

- Your all-aboard time against a 4- to 7-hour tour
- Any age or mobility exclusion for the climb — none was published for the Falmouth versions
Falmouth sits closer to Montego Bay than Ocho Rios does, roughly a 30-minute drive, and Disney is the one line we found actually selling something there.
The Half Moon Resort Day Pass appears on Disney's own Falmouth port-adventures list, alongside a similarly named all-inclusive pass. Half Moon is a resort in Rose Hall, Montego Bay — that's a resort beach day, not a sightseeing tour of Montego Bay's landmarks.
We found no named product covering Rose Hall Great House or Doctor's Cave Beach sold specifically from Falmouth on any of the three lines we checked.

If you were hoping for a Montego Bay landmarks tour specifically, we couldn't confirm one exists from this port — ask your excursion desk directly rather than assuming the proximity alone guarantees a product.

Ship tour or on your own, once you know what's borrowed
Falmouth splits along a line most guides don't draw: what's inside the port's own historic core, and what sits on Good Hope Estate or in another parish entirely.
The town itself
This is the one piece of Falmouth genuinely open to a DIY plan — one port guide puts the walk at about 20 minutes and half a mile.
A second guide describes the same stretch less kindly — vendor pressure just past the gate, a guided trolley recommended instead. We found no way to reconcile the two, so we're reporting both.
Good Hope Estate: one gate, four different products
Rafting, tubing, Chukka's zipline-and-ATV menu, and the Great House tour all happen on the same estate. None of them publishes an independent walk-up ticket that we could find — that makes this part of the port a ship-tour section by default.
If an independent operator sells Good Hope access directly, we didn't find one with a public rate card.
Luminous Lagoon: a timing problem before it's a booking problem
The lagoon only glows after dark, and most Caribbean cruise calls are daytime calls. Before you book this, or plan to arrange it independently through Glistening Waters, confirm your ship's actual departure time on the day.
Dunn's River: a different parish, and a naming trap
Dunn's River Falls sits in St. Ann parish, not Trelawny.
Reaching it is a real transfer, roughly an hour each way by one third-party estimate — Norwegian also sells two differently named Falmouth excursions, and only one of them actually includes the falls. Buy the ship's version here, and read the excursion description rather than the port name in the title.
What the ship's version actually buys
Inside Falmouth's own historic core, not much — the walk is free, when conditions suit it. On Good Hope Estate, the confirmation itself: nobody we found sells independent entry.
On Dunn's River, a guaranteed return from another parish, and the correct excursion rather than the confusingly named one.

Falmouth port logistics: piers, taxis and the advisory
Where you dock
Historic Falmouth Cruise Port has two berths, built for cruise ships from the start, not converted from a working harbor — the port's original architect, coordinating hurricane relief afterward, said it opened in 2011. Both berths are alongside — no source we found describes tendering at Falmouth.
Hurricane Melissa, and Falmouth's own dates
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025, as a Category 5 storm — Ocho Rios reopened to cruise calls on November 12, and Montego Bay on November 24. Falmouth came last of the three — Princess Cruises' Caribbean Princess became the first ship to call since the storm, on December 2, 2025.
The Port Authority of Jamaica marked the date directly: "Today marks the restart of cruise shipping operations at the Historic Falmouth Port!" One earlier report, from late November 2025, quoted the port's own architect saying the pier was already "100% able to accept ships and relief supplies," with a Royal Caribbean vessel calling within 48 hours of the storm — we read that as a relief run rather than the passenger restart itself.
No source ties the two reports together, so treat this as our reading, not a confirmed fact. By February 2026, Royal Caribbean had scheduled three ships back into Falmouth, and the port's current schedule shows no 2026 closures — the most recent Falmouth-specific report we found is a July 2026 visitor review of Glistening Waters.
Facilities were in decent shape, the reviewer wrote, but Melissa's aftermath was still visible around much of the bay — it's open and operating.
Full recovery isn't confirmed.

The Jamaican dollar is official; US dollars are widely accepted in Falmouth. One port guide cites an approximate rate near 150 JMD to the dollar — a single secondary source.

Reaching Good Hope Estate
Good Hope Estate, home to the rafting, tubing, Chukka and Great House products above, sits a few miles inland — about a 20-minute drive, per one port guide. Rafter's Village, the Martha Brae's own embarkation point, is described separately as less than 15 minutes from the port.
No operator publishes independent walk-up pricing for the estate itself — a taxi and a negotiated fare gets you to Rafter's Village; the rest reads as a booked-in-advance product.
Reaching Ocho Rios and Dunn's River Falls
Dunn's River Falls sits in St. Ann parish — that's not Falmouth's own parish of Trelawny.
One third-party Jamaican operator puts the driving time at about an hour each way. It's a single source — treat it as an estimate, and build in margin.
Taxis
The port maintains its own taxi pickup area, per one guide, with registered cabs expected to quote flat rates for nearby stops — $5 to $15, though we found no official rate card confirming it. No rideshare was confirmed operating in Falmouth.
We looked for a JUTA fare schedule specific to Falmouth and didn't find one — a JUTA-affiliated operator's site lists sample fares for other Jamaican routes, nothing for Falmouth. Agree your fare before you get in.
The travel advisory, quoted properly
The US State Department has Jamaica at Level 2, exercise increased caution, most recently updated July 2, 2026.
The advisory names specific Level 3, reconsider-travel neighborhoods across several parishes, including Steer Town in St. Ann — the same callout our Ocho Rios guide covers.
Trelawny, Falmouth's home parish, is not on that list. A January 2026 report described the advisory being downgraded that month from Level 3 to Level 2, with some neighborhoods still at Level 4 then — the more current page we checked lists those same areas at Level 3.

Health: leptospirosis
Jamaica's Ministry of Health and Wellness declared a leptospirosis outbreak after Hurricane Melissa's flooding — a December 2025 update from the ministry recorded 71 suspected, probable and confirmed cases, 26 of them confirmed, and 12 deaths, 7 confirmed as leptospirosis-related.
The most-affected parishes named were St. James, St. Ann and St. Elizabeth — Trelawny, Falmouth's parish, was not among them.
That's reassuring, and incomplete — no update newer than December 2025 exists, so we can't say whether it's still active. Guidance at the time centered on floodwater, not river tourism.
Ask your operator if recent rain is a concern.
