Dravuni Island

Dravuni is a tender stop with one village, one beach and no roads, ATMs or restaurants — so what you carry ashore is the whole plan. The whole island is walkable, per AIDA. Fewer than 200 people live here, and ship days are part of how the village earns its living.

Dravuni Island in brief

Dravuni is small enough that a map is a formality. Princess describes one village, fewer than 200 residents, and no big resorts or commercial development.

That shapes the day. There is no town to walk to and no terminal to cross. You step off the tender onto the village beach, and everything else is within a short stroll.

The tender is the part to plan around.

Ships don’t dock. Princess says to expect tender boats, and AIDA says they run to the main beach beside the village. Rough seas can limit or cancel tendering, so treat the landing as likely, not guaranteed.

What you do ashore is a short list: swim in the lagoon, snorkel toward the Great Astrolabe Reef, walk to the high point of the island, and browse the crafts villagers set up on visit days. Princess and Seabourn both describe the same handful of things.

It’s a living village first. The people who live here set the pace, so dress and ask accordingly.

Tours, boat trips and the one ship-run cultural day are sorted in our Dravuni shore excursion guide. Read it before you decide whether you need to buy anything at all.

From the tender to the beach, the village and the hill

Tender
Ship to the village beach

Ships anchor offshore in the lagoon and tenders land you at the main beach beside the village. No tender time is published, so use your ship’s planner.

Last boat
Your deadline

CruiseMapper advises treating the ship’s last-tender time as your deadline, not the sailing time, and getting to the landing well ahead of it.

20–30 min
Walk to the island’s high point

AIDA gives 20 to 30 minutes for the hilltop path, and a private yacht account reports about 20. Go early; the sun gets strong by midday.

∼2 sq km
The whole island

Whatsinport puts the island at roughly 2 square km with no downtown. There is no taxi or bus to plan around, since AIDA lists no roads.

Beach stalls
Crafts and food

Villagers set up near the landing on ship days. AIDA lists baskets, pandanus mats, shell jewelry, carved kava bowls and sulus; the Fiji Pocket Guide adds fruit, coconut water and kokoda.

Reef
Snorkeling from the beach

The Fiji Pocket Guide points to a rocky outcrop to the right of the wharf, facing the island, as the easiest way to the coral.

The village, the beach and the landing sit together, and the rest of the island is a short walk from them. Nothing here needs a vehicle.

The reef is the draw beyond the sand. The Fiji Pocket Guide places the island within the Great Astrolabe Reef, and AIDA says villagers also run outer-reef boat trips. The University of the South Pacific operates a coral-protection research station on the island, per AIDA.

Kadavu is the larger island group to the south. This page covers the Dravuni stop, not a trip to Kadavu itself.

Commonly reached from

Dravuni turns up on South Pacific itineraries that also call at Fiji’s mainland ports. A Norwegian Spirit sailing from June 2026 went Lautoka, then Dravuni, then Suva. See Lautoka and Suva for the docked calls around it. Princess lists Dravuni on a 14-day Fiji and South Pacific voyage and on longer Pacific crossings; see our Princess guide and Norwegian guide for the fleets. The wider region is on our Australia & New Zealand cruises hub, or open Dravuni on the Seabound Cruise Atlas.

Planning your Dravuni Island day

Most of what you’d buy here is a swim, a snorkel and a walk, and those cost nothing on the beach. The guide covers the few things worth arranging.

If you’re weighing a third-party booking for a stop this small, our comparison of Shore Excursions Group and Viator explains how the two differ.

Practical notes

Current as of October 29, 2026 Review periodically

Bring small Fijian-dollar notes.

The Fiji Pocket Guide and AIDA both report no ATMs, and CruiseMapper says not to rely on cards. Whatsinport says Fijian and Australian dollars are accepted, but not coins.

No fees for landing or for the village are published in the sources we read. Ask your ship before you go.

Dress for a village.

CruiseMapper and AIDA both advise covering shoulders and knees in the village and taking your hat off. Ask before you photograph residents, and ask permission before entering homes, school grounds or community buildings.

Ceremonies have their own rules. Captain Cook Cruises Fiji’s guide to welcome ceremonies says no photos or video until the village head allows it, and quiet while it happens.

The sevusevu is not your job.

The Fiji Pocket Guide says the cruise ship presents the traditional gift, so you don’t need to. It does suggest small gifts or school supplies if you want to bring something.

The advisory is Level 1.

The State Department’s national advisory for Fiji is Level 1, exercise normal precautions (reissued December 2, 2024; the U.S. Embassy in Suva still showed Level 1 on October 29, 2026). It’s a national rating, and the one Level 2 area it names is a forest park near Suva, not a cruise stop. The U.S. Embassy in Suva posts newer alerts on its homepage, including a demonstration alert dated October 23, 2026, so look there before you sail.

Entry rules, for ordinary U.S. passport holders.

Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa-exempt list (marked as of September 20, 2023; checked October 29, 2026) includes the United States, with a visitor permit of up to four months on arrival, a passport valid at least six months from entry and a return or onward ticket. Fiji’s immigration page does not address cruise passengers; your line’s own paperwork is a separate matter.

Cyclone season is November to April.

The Fiji Sun, in October 2025, put Fiji’s cyclone season at November through April. Rough weather is what can limit a tender day.

Some calls are Sundays.

Whatsinport says almost everything closes on Sundays. If your call lands on one, expect fewer stalls than the descriptions suggest.
