B Corp certification, run by the nonprofit B Lab, independently assesses and verifies a company's entire operation across five areas — governance, workers, community, customers, and environment — and requires a score of at least 80 to certify. Intrepid first certified in 2018 at 82.7, recertified in 2021 at 91.2, and reached 102.5 in its 2024 recertification — its highest score yet. Intrepid says that places it in the top 20% of large B Corps (companies with more than 1,000 employees), a group that also includes brands such as Patagonia and Ben & Jerry's. Recertification happens every three years, so the current score reflects a fresh assessment of the business as it actually operates now, not a one-time badge from 2018.
It's worth being precise about what that score does and doesn't mean. It doesn't certify that every Intrepid trip is environmentally superior to every competitor's trip. It means the company has submitted its governance, worker, community, environmental, and customer practices to an external certification standard, and the resulting score is public and has moved from 82.7 to 91.2 to 102.5 over three real audits. Alongside the certification, Intrepid became the first tour operator with science-based emissions targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative in October 2020, and its nonprofit arm, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised more than $17 million for over 160 community partners since 2002.
Four travel styles, not four different companies
Where G Adventures organizes its catalogue by named travel style, Intrepid organizes by comfort level — the same destination can often be booked at more than one tier.

Solo travelers — fair, not exceptional
Intrepid's own leadership has been direct about this: "While we don't waive single supplements, our trips are organized on a twin-share basis where we pair solo travelers with someone of the same gender." That's the whole mechanism — rooming is twin-share by default, so most solo travelers avoid an automatic supplement, but privacy costs extra. Intrepid's own FAQ confirms a single supplement is available on most trips for travelers who'd rather have their own room.
