The Willamette start

Before the Columbia, in Portland

Portland is a hotel night with a river at the end of it. Lindblad wants you here by 3:00 pm, and neither line publishes the berth — so the address is the first thing to ask for.

In short

Portland in thirty seconds

Fly into PDX, take the MAX train to Downtown, and sleep in the city. Neither line publishes its Portland berth, so ask us for the boarding address and time before you book a car.

Lindblad boards in the early evening and asks you to arrive by 3:00 pm. That deadline is a reason to come the day before, not a flight you want to be racing.

ACL's 16-day Grand cruise skips the Portland berth altogether. It includes a Portland hotel night, then boards at Stevenson, Washington, on Day 2.

One night is enough. Two, if the Japanese Garden or Powell's matters to you.

Two boarding points, and no street address for either line's Portland berth.

Portland, on the Willamette

Lindblad boards here. You arrive by 3:00 pm, board in the early evening, and the ship sails the Willamette under eight of the city's 12 bridges, with wine and champagne. The berth and street address aren't published.

Stevenson, Washington

On the 16-day Grand Columbia & Snake Rivers Cruise, ACL includes a Portland hotel stay on Day 1 and boards the ship at Stevenson on Day 2, in the Gorge. It ends at Stevenson too. ACL's other Portland cruises are listed as starting in Portland, with no berth named.

Quick answers

Portland river cruise questions

Where do river cruise ships dock in Portland?

No line publishes the berth. Lindblad says its ship sails the Willamette under eight of Portland's 12 bridges on departure, and ACL's 16-day cruise boards at Stevenson, Washington, not Portland. Ask us for the boarding address once your line issues it.

How do I get from PDX to downtown Portland?

The MAX Red Line runs about every 15 minutes, takes about 39 minutes and costs $2.80 for adults. Taxi and rideshare fares from the airport aren't published, so ask your hotel.

When should I arrive?

Lindblad asks you to be in Portland by 3:00 pm, with boarding in the early evening. Come the day before, so the deadline isn't tied to a flight.

Where should I stay the night before?

Downtown is the practical choice. For the river, Kimpton RiverPlace; for a grand stay, the Ritz-Carlton or the 1913 Benson; for something quieter, the Dossier.

Is Portland the end of the cruise?

Sometimes. The Portland-Clarkston cruises run one way, so Portland is the start if you sail east and the finish if you sail west. Lindblad's Venture, ACL's 5- and 7-day cruises and its 16-day Grand start and end in the Portland area.
