How Secrets Resorts & Spas scores
Secrets sits in the middle of the adults-only market — more properties and more countries than Excellence, less rigidly couple-shaped than Sandals, and a notch below the true luxury tier in feel — and its distinguishing feature is corporate, not physical. What sets it apart isn't the buildings; it is whose loyalty program they sit in.
Solo travelers score well here because the brand accommodates them, unlike much of the segment. Note that award redemptions are still priced for two, which blunts the advantage when paying with points.
The sport score is the honest weak point. Non-motorized watersports are included and essentially nothing else is — no scuba program, no motorized sports, no included golf. Against Sandals, which bundles all three, Secrets is buying you geography and a loyalty currency instead of an activity roster.
Who actually owns Secrets — and why it changed twice
Getting this right explains why standards vary between properties flying the same flag.
Secrets sits inside Hyatt's Inclusive Collection, which sits inside Hyatt Hotels Corporation. That is the entire structure in 2026.
Two names still circulating are dead. AMR Collection was retired as a brand name at the end of 2022 — any guide still using it is several years stale. And Apple Leisure Group, which Hyatt bought in 2021, has been absorbed; the surviving ALG Vacations business is a travel-distribution arm — not the owner of the resort brands.
The 2025 sequence is unusual enough to be worth following. Hyatt acquired Playa Hotels & Resorts in June 2025, taking on fifteen all-inclusive resorts. It then sold that entire owned real-estate portfolio on, completing in December 2025, while retaining fifty-year management agreements on almost all of it.
Hyatt is overwhelmingly a manager and brand licensor of Secrets resorts — not their owner. Individual properties belong to third-party owners. That is the reason two resorts under the same brand can feel noticeably different — and why it is worth reading about the specific property rather than trusting the flag.
What Unlimited-Luxury actually covers
Unlimited-Luxury is a trademarked inclusion program, not marketing language, and its contents are consistent across the brand.
| Included | The detail that matters |
|---|---|
| Almost all dining, mostly without reservations | A genuine differentiator against resorts that ration specialty dining by quota — but not absolute. Property FAQs carve out teppanyaki tables and sushi bars, which do take bookings. |
| Top-shelf spirits | International and domestic, unlimited, with pool and beach wait service. |
| 24-hour room service | Included — but see the delivery-fee caveat below, which is the most common billing surprise in the brand. |
| Minibar refreshed daily | Soft drinks, juice, water and beer. |
| Tips and taxes | Hyatt states plainly that tips and taxes are always included. This part is unusually clean and isn't a myth. |
| Wi-Fi | Complimentary. |
| Non-motorized watersports | Kayaks, paddleboards and similar. This is where the sport inclusion stops. |
| Entertainment and activities | Daily program, nightly shows, tastings, 24-hour concierge. |
Preferred Club: what you are actually buying
Preferred Club is the paid tier within the resort — and it is widely misunderstood as a food-and-drink upgrade. It is not.
The base food and beverage product is the same for everyone. What Preferred Club buys is space, access and service: a private lounge with continental breakfast, afternoon hors d'oeuvres and premium pours; a private pool and a reserved beach section; a suite in a better part of the resort; personalized check-in and a dedicated concierge; upgraded minibar stocking and bath amenities; and at some properties, access to one or two restaurants reserved for club guests.
Its value scales with how busy the resort is and how much you would use a private pool and beach. On a quiet week at a resort with plenty of loungers, the premium buys much less. Note too that Preferred Club is redeemable with points, which is unusual in hotel loyalty and often the smarter way to access it.
Above Secrets sits a separate brand, not a higher Secrets tier: Impression by Secrets, which runs a different inclusion program with butler service and 24-hour private dining across a very small number of properties.
What still costs money
One property's own FAQ is unusually candid about exclusions — and it applies broadly across the brand.
| Not included | Why it catches people out |
|---|---|
| Everything at the spa | The brand name is Resorts & Spas. That refers to the spa existing — not to it being free; every treatment is chargeable. |
| Room service delivery fee | The food is included; a per-request delivery or service charge can still apply. This directly undercuts the "24-hour room service included" headline and is the single most common unexpected line item. |
| Bottled premium wines, reserve spirits and champagne | Top-shelf by the glass is included. The bottle list is not. |
| Airport transfers | Not included at all. The concierge will arrange them; you pay for them. |
| Scuba, motorized watersports and most instruction | Only non-motorized sport is in the rate. |
| Private romantic dinners and group events | Ordinary restaurant dining is free; the beach setup for two is a paid experience. |
| Cabanas | Beach and pool cabanas are rented. |
| Golf | Green fees at the golf-branded resorts are generally outside the package. Verify per property. |
| Laundry, international calls, on-property doctor, boutiques | All standard exclusions, all chargeable. |
Resort fees aren't charged on points stays, and taxes are generally folded into the rate. But the European properties sit in jurisdictions with their own rules: the Bulgarian resort is subject to a municipal tourist tax, and the Mallorca property to the regional Balearic sustainable tourism tax. The two Canary Islands resorts aren't subject to a tourist tax at all. Treat "no fees whatsoever" as unsafe in Europe without checking the specific island.
World of Hyatt: the real reason to choose this brand
No Sandals or Excellence equivalent exists. If you collect transferable points, this is the argument.
Stays earn base and bonus points and count toward elite status. Redemptions use a separate all-inclusive award chart running Categories A to F, not the standard hotel chart — and you can redeem into Club and suite categories, not just a base room.
First, award pricing is built for double occupancy — solo travelers pay the same as a couple, and additional guests cost more points per night. Second, the award chart was restructured in May 2026, moving from three pricing tiers to five; any points figure published before mid-2026 is obsolete.
Two caveats. Points-plus-cash bookings and on-property point redemption are documented as unavailable at these resorts, though the page carrying that restriction is undated and we could not confirm it still holds. And Hyatt hasn't published a clear statement of which elite benefits apply at Inclusive Collection properties — most of what circulates is blogger-sourced, and property-level exclusions were introduced in 2025. Do not book a suite upgrade expecting it to be guaranteed.
The sibling brands, and which one you actually want
Secrets sits in a large family of brands that are frequently confused with each other. Two pairings cause almost all the confusion.
| Brand | What it is | vs. Secrets |
|---|---|---|
| Dreams | The family version | Identical inclusion program, opposite age policy. Often on the same beach. |
| Breathless | Adults-only, social and nightlife-forward | Same age policy, opposite mood. Booking this expecting Secrets goes wrong more often than any other mix-up here. |
| Impression by Secrets | The step above | Butler service and a different inclusion program, across very few properties. |
| Zoetry | Boutique wellness, adult-oriented | Much smaller and more exclusive — and, unlike Secrets, children are permitted. |
| Hyatt Zilara | Adults-only under the Hyatt name | A close peer — the difference is brand lineage more than product. |
| Hyatt Vivid | Adults-only, casual, pitched younger | Less romance-coded than Secrets. |
Dreams is Secrets with children. Breathless is Secrets with a nightclub. If you book the wrong one of those three, you will know by the first evening.
Where Secrets is — and what is closed
Eight countries, and the only adults-only brand here that reaches beyond the Americas.
Mexico carries the largest cluster, followed by the Dominican Republic and Spain, with single properties in Aruba, Costa Rica, Saint Lucia and Bulgaria. Two 2025 additions are worth noting: the brand's first Aruba property, and its first in Saint Lucia — the latter a conversion of an existing resort, not a new build.
Both Secrets properties in Montego Bay have been closed since late October 2025 following storm damage, along with several sibling resorts in the same cluster. The reopening target moved from late 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. Do not plan a 2026 Jamaica stay with this brand.
Hyatt's own directory lists twenty-eight Secrets resorts across those eight countries — a figure that includes the two Jamaica properties currently closed.
Where it sits, and what the step up costs
Secrets sits in the premium band, a clear step above its family sibling in the same markets, and its one internal upgrade is priced two quite different ways depending on what the club room actually is.
| Sub-brand or tier | Where it sits |
|---|---|
| Secrets | Premium. Adults-only, and consistently the higher-priced of the Secrets/Dreams pair where both operate on the same beach. |
| Impression by Secrets | Luxury. A separate brand, not a higher Secrets tier, with butler service and its own inclusion program. |
| Preferred Club | A tier within the resort — see below. |
Base → Preferred Club splits into two cases. Where the club is sold as a flat per-night supplement on the room you already have, expect something in the region of a fifth to a third on top. Where the club category is also a better room — a junior suite, not a deluxe — the same upgrade can read as more than half again, because you are buying the room and the club together. The first kind moves with promotions; the second holds its proportion, since suite scarcity doesn't shift with the season.
No figures on this page are quoted by the brands. None of them publishes an official upgrade percentage, so every proportion here is derived from comparing published category rates across properties. Treat a step that buys a different room product — a suite instead of a room, a swim-up instead of a standard — as durable, because the scarcity behind it doesn't move. Treat a step sold as a flat per-night supplement as volatile: as a proportion it widens whenever the base rate falls, in a promotion or in low season, and compresses at peak. Secrets sits a band above Dreams in every market where both operate — so a Dreams rate on the same beach is a useful floor to price against.
Who Secrets Resorts & Spas fits — and who should look elsewhere
You want adults-only without being treated as half of a couple — solo, friends, or an adult family. You value destination choice, including Europe. And above all you collect transferable points: a week here both earns and spends World of Hyatt, and Preferred Club and suites are redeemable, not just base rooms.
You want the sport included — there is no scuba program, no motorized watersports and no bundled golf. You want the same standard at every property, which a manage-and-license model can't promise. Or you want Jamaica in 2026.
If you asked us to pick
The points stay
Redeem into Preferred Club — not a base room. Club is redeemable, which is unusual — and it is the part of the resort worth paying for.
The non-couple adult trip
Two friends, a parent and adult child, or a solo week. Secrets takes all three bookings without comment.
The room service charge
Budget for a delivery fee per request even though room service is listed as an inclusion. It is the most common unexpected line on the folio.
Keep exploring
Nobody books Secrets in isolation — it comes up alongside Excellence on the food question and alongside Sandals on the couples question, and both comparisons are worth having in full.

Quick answers
Is Secrets couples-only?
No — it is adults-only, eighteen and over. Solo travelers, friend groups and adult families all book it freely. Sandals is the brand with the couples-shaped model; this is the most practically useful difference between the two. Worth knowing if you are booking a girls' trip or traveling with an adult child — neither is unusual here.
Who owns Secrets now?
Secrets sits under Hyatt's Inclusive Collection, part of Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The old AMR Collection name was retired at the end of 2022. Note that Hyatt largely manages rather than owns these resorts — it sold the Playa real-estate portfolio it acquired in 2025 while keeping long-term management agreements. The practical consequence: read reviews of your specific property.
Is the spa included?
No. The brand is called Resorts & Spas because the spa exists, not because it is free; every treatment is chargeable at every property. If a thermal circuit or hydrotherapy matters to you, ask whether facility access is separable from treatments — some properties sell them separately.
Is room service really included?
The food is, and it runs 24 hours. But a per-request delivery or service fee can still apply, which contradicts how the inclusion is marketed and is the most frequent unexpected charge guests report. Ask at check-in what the per-delivery charge is — so it isn't a surprise on the final folio.
Are airport transfers included?
No. Transfers aren't part of Unlimited-Luxury at all. The concierge will arrange one — but you pay for it separately unless it came bundled in a tour-operator package. Booking through a tour operator often bundles one, which is a real reason to price packaged rates against direct.
What is the difference between Secrets, Dreams and Breathless?
Same inclusion program, different audiences. Dreams is the family version and welcomes children. Breathless is adults-only like Secrets but social and nightlife-forward — not quiet and romantic; booking Breathless expecting Secrets is the mistake we see most. If you are unsure which you booked, check the resort name on your confirmation rather than the photos.
Can I use Hyatt points at Secrets?
Yes, on a separate all-inclusive award chart running Categories A to F, and you can redeem into Preferred Club and suites as well as base rooms. Two catches: awards are priced for double occupancy so solo travelers get no discount, and the chart was restructured in May 2026, making earlier point figures obsolete.
