NCL's own booking notice is direct about this: “availability onboard may be limited, and passes are not guaranteed once onboard.” It opened barely a week before this guide was checked — expect early demand to outrun walk-up supply.

Every tier includes air conditioning, an in-villa TV with on-demand movies, a private bathroom, and a retractable glass wall onto the beach. Also included: one bottle of sparkling wine, a fruit basket, chips and salsa, bar service, and access to Silver Cove's own buffet. Mandara Spa treatments cost extra.
Here's the correction worth repeating: none of these listings carries an age restriction, and NCL's own copy for the largest villa calls it a “Family Suite,” not a couples' retreat. That's a real distinction from Vibe Shore Club, which is genuinely 18-plus.

This is the tier to compare against doing nothing at all. The free beach already has standard loungers — these two products buy shade and privacy on top of that.

Kayaking and snorkeling both show up by name on NCL's own overview materials for the island, alongside the paddleboard rental. Neither turned up as its own separate, priced shore-excursion listing in what we could load. That's a real gap in NCL's own published pricing, worth naming rather than guessing past.

There's no independent economy to weigh against NCL's prices here, because there's no one else to book with.
One owner, so this isn't really ship vs. independent
Great Stirrup Cay has no town, no residents and no commercial district outside NCL's own facilities. Every add-on on this page is an NCL shore-excursion listing, priced by NCL. That's the whole comparison here: whether a given NCL product earns its price against what your cruise fare already bought, rather than which operator to book with.
What's actually included in your fare, before you spend anything
NCL's own materials describe three beaches. Add complimentary beachside dining at spots like Jumbey Beach Grill and Abaco Taco, standard loungers and umbrellas, and free access to the new Great Life Lagoon pool complex and its Splash Harbour splash pad for kids. If you've bought a Free at Sea beverage package, it's honored around the island too, not just onboard.
That's a real amount of included value on a private island — a genuine day out, not a bare beach with a snack stand.
So what does paying actually buy you
Mostly privacy, shade tier and a couple of genuinely new experiences. Silver Cove and the lagoon cabanas buy quieter or shadier real estate — the food is the same free buffet, with a bottle of wine and a private bathroom added on top. The number that isn't settled: which line even calls here
NCL's own July 2025 press release counts only Norwegian ships toward its stated 1-million-guest figure for 2026. A trade-press account of the pier's December 2025 opening, and a separate cruise-tracking site, both describe the island as serving Oceania and Regent Seven Seas too, since all three brands sit under Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. We're not picking a side — if you're sailing one of those two lines specifically, confirm this port is actually on your itinerary rather than assume either answer.

Great Stirrup Cay logistics: the pier, the card, and all-aboard
Where you actually arrive, and why it's genuinely unsettled
NCL first brought a ship alongside a new pier on December 28, 2025 — Norwegian Getaway, ending years of tender-only access. That pier closed again on April 1, 2026, specifically to build a bigger, two-berth version able to dock two large ships at once, part of a reported $150 million project.
A March 2026 report put the reopening at roughly late July 2026. The most recent dated source we found is from early September 2026. It confirms ships are docking at a pier again, but it doesn't say whether that's the full two-ship version or a single-berth interim one — and no source after the March projection actually confirms the July target was met. Treat this as a real, open question for your specific sailing, not a settled fact either way.
The weather risk this island has always carried
Great Stirrup Cay has a well-documented history of calls being skipped entirely when seas are too rough for tendering — unlike a public port, there's no town to fall back on if the call is scrubbed, just ship-side amenities instead. We found no NCL statement on whether the new pier meaningfully reduces that risk for the calls that do dock, versus the calls that still tender.
Currency and the onboard account
NCL's own materials describe purchases around the island running on your cruise card, the same way onboard bars work. A small amount of US dollars is worth carrying for tips and the small straw market, but it's genuinely optional for everything else.
All-aboard, on an island your line owns
NCL's own site doesn't spell out the exact check-in/check-out mechanic in the materials we could load. One secondary source describes a room-card-plus-photo-ID scan leaving the ship and returning to it, similar to a public port.
