Ibiza excursions, from a free old town to a $319.95 day
Ranked by one question — what does the tour get you that the City Boat and your own legs won’t?
In Dalt Vila, a guide’s stories and not much else. Beyond town, the coach starts earning its fare, and the ferry does the rest.
The berth, the crossing and the taxi tariff are on our Ibiza cruise port guide. Calling at Mallorca too? Our Palma de Mallorca shore excursion guide covers the next Balearic stop.
If you want the island and not only the town, this is the half-day that shows it.
Princess’s South Ibiza & Las Salinas Nature Park runs about 4 hours from $139.95, rated moderate. Ses Salines is the salt-flat natural park the tourism board features among its headline sights.
Princess also sells The Best of South Ibiza and Dalt Vila at about 3.75 hours from $129.95 — rated strenuous, because the old town is part of it.
Pick the second if you won’t have time to do Dalt Vila on your own afterward — and the first if you will, since the old town is the part you can do for free.
- Time commitment
- About 3.75 to 4 hours on the Princess listings.
- Getting there
- Coach from the pier.
- Suits
- First-timers, minimal-stress days.
- Ship or independent
- Ship, for most people — a taxi to the salt flats is possible, but the coach is the one that has to get you back.
Why it's worth considering
The south coast and the salt pans in an afternoon, with the drive handled.
It leaves the evening free for the old town on a late call.
The catch
Four hours of an afternoon call is a lot of the day.
The Dalt Vila combination is rated strenuous — check the walking before you choose it.
Verify before you book
- How long you get at the salt flats versus on the coach
- Whether a beach stop is included
- Return time against all-aboard
Ferry · island day
Across to Formentera on the ferry
Formentera is the small island to the south, and the boats leave from Ibiza’s own harbor.
Direct Ferries lists Baleària, Trasmapi, Aquabus and Formentera Lines on the route. It puts the crossing at about 30 minutes, with about 43 sailings a day and foot-passenger fares from €35.
The Port Bus already links Botafoc with the Formentera ferry station, which makes this an easy island-hop to set up yourself.
Our advice: buy a return with a sailing well clear of all-aboard — the ship sails on its own timetable, not the ferry’s.
- Time commitment
- About an hour of crossings, plus time on the island and the Port Bus at each end.
- Getting there
- Port Bus or taxi from Botafoc to the Formentera maritime station.
- Suits
- Repeat visitors, couples, active travelers on a long call.
- Ship or independent
- Independent — Princess lists no Formentera tour.
Why it's worth considering
A second island in one port day, with the boat leaving from your own harbor rather than a distant terminal.
Frequent sailings mean you’re not hanging on a single boat — miss one and there’s usually another, by the reseller’s count.
The catch
With ships entering from 11:30, a short call leaves little island time once the crossings are counted.
If weather delays your return boat, the ship won’t wait.
Verify before you book
- The return sailing you’ll actually use
- Which terminal your operator leaves from
- Fare for your direction — the listed one is Formentera to Ibiza
Ship transfer · evening
Sunset at Sant Antoni, on your own
Ibiza’s afternoon arrivals make this one unusual — a ship excursion built around the end of the day.
Princess’s Sunset at Sant Antoni de Portmany on your own runs about 4 hours from $79.95. The “on your own” part is the point: the line drives you to the west-coast town and back, and the evening there is yours.
It only works if your ship is in port into the evening. Check the all-aboard before you get attached to the idea.
- Time commitment
- About 4 hours.
- Getting there
- Ship’s coach to Sant Antoni and back.
- Suits
- Couples, repeat visitors, late-departure calls.
- Ship or independent
- Ship — the return is the line’s responsibility, and that matters more after dark than at noon.
Why it's worth considering
One of the lower-priced Princess listings here, and the one built for the evening.
You get the coast without a guided program.
The catch
No guide, so no commentary — you’re paying for transport and time, not a tour.
The whole idea depends on a late departure, so it’s off the table on an early all-aboard.
Verify before you book
- Departure time from the pier
- Sunset time on your date
- Where the coach picks up in Sant Antoni
The north is the quieter, greener side of the island, and Princess sells two ways in — a coach or a 4x4.
Highlights of North Ibiza runs about 4 hours from $119.95, rated moderate. Hidden Ibiza by 4x4 Vehicle runs about 5 hours from $199.95, rated strenuous.
The 4x4 version costs about $80 more and an hour longer. What it buys is the back roads — and a bumpier ride, which is why it carries the harder rating.
- Time commitment
- About 4 hours by coach, about 5 by 4x4.
- Getting there
- Ship’s coach or 4x4 from the pier.
- Suits
- Repeat visitors, active travelers.
- Ship or independent
- Ship, unless you’re hiring a private car.
Why it's worth considering
A side of Ibiza that has nothing to do with the clubs or the harbor.
The 4x4 suits a group that wants something a little rough.
The catch
Five hours of an afternoon call leaves little for Dalt Vila.
The listing doesn’t name the stops — ask before you book.
Verify before you book
- Which villages and viewpoints are included
- Seat comfort and ride on the 4x4
- Return time against all-aboard
Princess pitches this one at families, and the shape makes sense — a cave first, then sand.
Caves of Can Marça and Beach Break for Families runs about 6 hours from $119.95, rated moderate. A secondary guide puts the caves about 30 minutes from the port, and says you need a car or a tour to reach them.
Six hours is the longest listing here — on an afternoon call, that’s most of your time ashore, not a slice of it.
- Time commitment
- About 6 hours.
- Getting there
- Ship’s coach.
- Suits
- Families with kids who’d rather swim than climb.
- Ship or independent
- Ship — it bundles the transport for both stops.
Why it's worth considering
Two kid-friendly stops with the logistics done, so nobody has to watch the clock but the guide.
A beach afternoon without arranging a taxi each way or hunting for a rank on the way back.
The catch
It uses up most of the day, which rules out Dalt Vila unless your ship stays into the evening.
We couldn’t find the caves’ own opening hours or ticket price.
Verify before you book
- Whether cave entry is included
- Which beach, and whether loungers cost extra
- Steps inside the cave for small children
Princess sells four food-and-farm tours in Ibiza, and they sit near the top of its price list.
A Taste of Ibiza runs about 3.75 hours from $199.95, rated strenuous. Wine Tasting at Can Maymo Winery runs about 4 hours from $199.95, rated moderate.
Can Muson Eco-Farm & Lunch with the Farmer is a small-group 4-hour tour from $239.95. The National Geographic Herbs & Honeybees day runs about 4 hours from $319.95.
Choose by what you’d tell people about afterward — if that’s the wine, take Can Maymo; if it’s the lunch, take the farm.
- Time commitment
- About 3.75 to 4 hours.
- Getting there
- The line’s coach from the pier; no independent route in what we found.
- Suits
- Couples, repeat visitors.
- Ship or independent
- Ship — these are the line’s own products.
Why it's worth considering
A rural, slow Ibiza that a first visit to the harbor misses.
The winery and farm tours carry a moderate rating, gentler than the old town walks.
The catch
At $199.95 to $319.95, they cost more than any Princess sightseeing tour here bar the 4x4.
A Taste of Ibiza is rated strenuous, so it isn’t the easy option it sounds like.

Third-party · private
A private four-hour island tour
For a family that wants its own car and its own pace, this is the private option — priced by how many seats you fill.
Shore Excursions Group’s Private Ibiza Island Discovery and Sightseeing runs 4 hours, starting and ending at the cruise pier. It was listed from $591.99 a person for two, $388.99 for three and $295.99 for four when we checked.
It’s rated easy, with a minimum age of 7, and it isn’t wheelchair accessible — food isn’t included either, so plan lunch around it.
- Time commitment
- About 4 hours.
- Getting there
- Pickup at the cruise pier.
- Suits
- Families of four and groups who want their own schedule.
- Ship or independent
- Third-party — read the return-to-ship terms before you pay, not after.
Why it's worth considering
Your own guide and car, with no coach to wait for.
An easy rating, so it suits mixed-age groups over seven.
The catch
For a couple, it’s about four times the Princess south-coast fare per person.
The listing doesn’t name the stops, so agree them with the operator before the day.
Verify before you book
- Exact pickup point at Botafoc
- The stops you want, agreed in writing
- Price for your exact party size

Ibiza with the ship or on your own
In town, do it yourself
Dalt Vila is a public neighborhood behind its walls. The Princess walking tour at $59.95 a head buys you a guide, which some people want and many won’t need.
The crossing from Botafoc is the one bit of logistics, and the City Boat and Port Bus exist for exactly that.
For the island, let the ship drive
The salt flats, the north and the caves are a drive away, and an afternoon call doesn’t leave much slack. On the ship’s tour, a slow road is the line’s problem.
Princess listings run from about 3.75 to 6 hours, so check each against your all-aboard before you book.
Formentera and private cars
Formentera is the clear do-it-yourself trip: frequent ferries, about 30 minutes each way, from the same harbor.
Shore Excursions Group’s private 4-hour island tour gets cheaper per head as the party grows to four — $295.99 each for four, against $591.99 each for two. Quotes for five and six run higher per head, so price your exact party.
How each option compares in Ibiza
| Excursion | Lean ship excursion when… | Independent works when… |
| Dalt Vila | Only for a guide | Yes — it’s free to walk in |
| South Ibiza and Ses Salines | Yes, for the drive and return | By taxi, if you watch the clock |
| Formentera | No Princess tour listed | Yes — frequent ferries from the same port |
| Sant Antoni sunset | Yes — the return after dark is covered | Only with a late all-aboard and a booked taxi |
| North Ibiza or 4x4 | Yes | With a private car and driver |
| Can Marçà caves and beach | Yes — two stops bundled | By taxi, if you confirm the caves’ hours |
| Winery, farm or tasting tour | Yes — they’re the line’s own | Hard to replicate on a single call |
Short answer
On a first call, cross to town, climb Dalt Vila through the Portal de ses Taules and come down by the walls — it costs the crossing and some effort, not a tour fare. On a second, take the coach to the salt flats or the ferry to Formentera. Don’t try both, because with an 11:30 arrival, two trips out of town is how an afternoon turns into a sprint back to Botafoc.

Ibiza port logistics: Botafoc, the crossing and the clock
From Botafoc into town
Cruise ships berth at Botafoc — the sea wall, its pontoons and the dock beside them, across the harbor from the old town.
The City Boat runs from the Botafoc area to Plaça d’es Martell. The Port Bus, run by Sagalés, links the docks with the Formentera ferry station. Taxis wait at the rank by the Botafoc maritime station, not out on the pontoons.
Fares, the walk and the taxi tariff are on our Ibiza cruise port guide.
- No tender in normal operation
- City Boat and Port Bus fares not published
- Taxi port supplement about €2
The clock you’re working with
Ships enter from 11:30 unless the port authority authorizes otherwise, and disembarkation is capped at about 3,000 passengers an hour.
On a two- or three-ship day, that cap can mean a slotted gangway time — book tours that start after you’re reliably ashore, not at the first possible minute.
Safety and paperwork
Spain sits at State Department Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, on the US Embassy in Spain’s site as of October 28, 2026.
US citizens don’t need a visa for a port day. The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been fully running since April 10, 2026; your line will tell you if your call involves a check.
ETIAS isn’t operating and has no announced start date — the EU says it will give several months’ notice. Watch travel-europe.europa.eu while you plan flights.
