Dubrovnik in brief
Dubrovnik is Croatia's walled Adriatic city, and its cruise and ferry terminal sits at the Port of Gruž — about 3km (1.9 miles) from the Old Town itself. We couldn't confirm a single named operator for it.
It's a dock port, not a tender port, which simplifies the arrival even if the distance means walking isn't the default choice most travelers make. A quick, cheap city bus closes most of that gap in about 10 minutes.
This page covers Dubrovnik itself: the layout, the fastest way into the Old Town, and what's genuinely walkable once you're there. It's built to work the same regardless of which embarkation port your Adriatic sailing started from — Venice is the one documented we cover so far.
Getting from Gruž to the Old Town
The port itself isn't walkable to the Old Town, but the fix is cheap and fast.
Stops directly outside the terminal and runs to Pile Gate, the Old Town's main entrance. The simplest option for most travelers.
A taxi rank sits outside the terminal; Uber and Bolt both operate in Dubrovnik. Confirm the fare before you go.
Free, but a real walk — about 3km (1.9 miles). Fine for a nice day and light bags, not the default choice.
What's nearby, broadly
Once you're at Pile Gate, Dubrovnik's Old Town is genuinely walkable on its own:
A short call favors the City Walls walk and wandering the Old Town itself; a longer one opens up the Srđ cable car or a day trip toward Kotor or the Elaphiti Islands.
What kind of day are you planning?
- Old Town/City Walls walk
- Srđ Hill cable car
- Kotor, Montenegro day trip
- Banje Beach

Dubrovnik is documented we cover as a standard Adriatic stop from Venice. This list grows as Seabound builds out more embarkation-port guides — it isn't Dubrovnik's whole story, just the ones documented so far.
Planning your Dubrovnik day
The specific picks here already have their own dedicated guide, built and kept current on its own schedule. This page stays at the port-identity level on purpose; that one goes deep.
Best Dubrovnik shore excursions
Which paid Dubrovnik excursion earns its price against a self-guided City Walls walk — the cable car, the Kotor day trip, the rest.

Bus 1A/1B (€2.50, about 10 minutes) is the confirmed, fastest way from the terminal to Pile Gate — the taxi rank and rideshare apps are the other realistic options at roughly the same travel time.
We couldn't independently verify any City Walls timed-entry or visitor-cap rules — City Walls tickets and access have changed before in peak season, so confirm current entry procedures locally rather than assuming open access.

Dubrovnik FAQ
Do ships dock or tender at Dubrovnik?
Dock. Ships tie up at the Port of Gruž, a standard cruise and ferry terminal — no tender involved.
Is the Old Town walkable from the ship?
Not really — it's about 3km (1.9 miles), roughly a 40-minute walk. Bus 1A or 1B, which stops right outside the terminal, covers the same distance in about 10 minutes for €2.50.
What's the classic Dubrovnik port day?
The City Walls walk around the Old Town is the signature activity, often paired with the Srđ Hill cable car for a panoramic view, or a beach stop at Banje Beach just outside the walls.
Is Dubrovnik reached from more than one embarkation port we cover?
As documented so far, Venice is the confirmed way in — a core stop on Venice's Adriatic round-trips. This list will grow as more embarkation-port guides are built.
