Fourvière or the Presqu'île
None of these six looks onto the Rhône berth, and in Lyon that's no great loss. The real choice is between the hill — quiet, old, a taxi from the quay — and the peninsula, a short hop across the river from it.
How we chose
A room on the water is usually our first test. In Lyon no hotel here claims a view of the quay, so position and character carry the list instead.
Where a hotel holds a rating we can name, the card says so — two MICHELIN Keys between them, and a five-star. Where there isn't one, we leave the line blank rather than guess.
Price played no part in the order. Your arrival does more to decide it: Part-Dieu for the train, the hill for a slow afternoon.

Set under the 32-metre Soufflot Dome of the old Hôtel-Dieu, on the Rhône side of the Presqu'île.
Le Bonbon reports it voted best hotel in France for a fourth year running. It stands on the peninsula's Rhône edge, across the water from Quai Claude Bernard.

Uniworld's Lyon all-aboard is 9:00 pm. Ask the hotel to hold your bags and keep the day for the city.
Fourvière is on the far side of the Presqu'île from the berth. Arrange the taxi when you arrange the bag hold.
Tram T1 stops at Quai Claude Bernard. It's fine with a carry-on; with a full set of cases, the taxi still wins.

None claims a view of Quai Claude Bernard. The InterContinental and the Sofitel are on the Presqu'île, directly across the Rhône from it.
Villa Florentine and Villa Maïa, both on Fourvière hill, each received one in 2024. The InterContinental doesn't have one, though it's a five-star.
