Nha Trang

Nha Trang has two cruise landings, and neither puts you on the beach road. Ships that anchor in Nha Trang Bay tender passengers to Ana Marina, about 4 miles (7 km) from downtown. Ships that dock go to Cam Ranh International Port, about 25 miles (40 km) away — so the coach ride comes before anything else. Either way, ordinary U.S. passport holders generally need a Vietnamese visa, usually the e-visa — so follow your cruise line’s instructions and sort it before you sail.

Nha Trang in brief

Nha Trang is a beach city with a port problem — the beach is easy, the getting there isn’t.

There’s no cruise pier on the seafront. Lines pick between two arrangements, and Tuoi Tre News reported in February 2026 that operators now choose between Ana Marina in Nha Trang and the deep-water port at Cam Ranh.

Anchor and tender: Ana Marina.

Costa Serena anchored in the bay on its January and February 2026 calls, and its tenders carried passengers to the International Ana Marina. Viet Nam News puts the marina about 7 km from downtown.

It opened as a yacht marina, not a cruise terminal. So expect a tender landing, a gate and a ride — don’t expect a shopping hall.

Dock: Cam Ranh International Port.

Other ships tie up at Cam Ranh instead. Spectrum of the Seas, Westerdam, Norwegian Sun, Insignia, Sirena and two Regent ships have all used it.

It’s about 40 km from Nha Trang, according to Vietnam News Agency reporting. Norwegian lists its Nha Trang tours under “Cam Ranh”, not Nha Trang.

Some guides, Celebrity’s among them, name Cau Da port as the berth — the harbor district south of the center, by the Oceanographic Museum and the cable car station. We couldn’t confirm which lines use it now.

Your line decides, ship by ship, and the answer reshapes the day. It’s a tender hop or a coach ride, not a stroll.

Once you know your landing, our Nha Trang shore excursion guide sorts out which tours earn their fare. Read it before you book.

From the landing into Nha Trang

Tender
Anchored in Nha Trang Bay

The ship stays offshore and tenders run passengers in, as Costa Serena’s did on its 2026 calls. Tender queues come out of your day, so add them to any plan.

Tender landing
International Ana Marina

Where 2026 tenders came ashore. Viet Nam News puts it about 4 miles (7 km) from downtown — a taxi ride, not a stroll.

Docked
Cam Ranh International Port

The deep-water option, used by ships up to Spectrum of the Seas’ size. It’s about 25 miles (40 km) from Nha Trang.

Cau Da
Cau Da port, south of the center

Named as the cruise port in Celebrity’s guide, though we couldn’t confirm which ships use it. The Oceanographic Museum here sits about 3 miles (4.7 km) south of the center.

On foot
Not realistic from any landing

What’s in Port calls the area too spread out for walking. Once you’re downtown, the beach road and Dam Market are easier on foot.

Taxi
Insist on the meter

Older guides to the Cau Da port say taxis and cyclos wait outside the gate; we found nothing on taxi stands at Ana Marina or Cam Ranh. No current fare is published — insist on the meter.

What's nearby, broadly

Po Nagar Cham Towers Long Son Pagoda and the white Buddha Nha Trang Cathedral Dam Market Tran Phu beach road National Oceanographic Museum Vinpearl cable car VinWonders on Hon Tre Island Thap Ba and I-Resort hot springs Ba Ho Waterfall Cai River villages

Po Nagar sits about 1.2 miles (2 km) from the center, and the pagoda, cathedral and Dam Market are all downtown. Those are the stops on the half-day tours we found.

The Oceanographic Museum and the cable car station are down at Cau Da, roughly 3 miles (4.7 km) south. Celebrity puts Ba Ho Waterfall about 45 minutes out and the Thap Ba springs under an hour — each is a separate trip, not a stop on the way.

Commonly reached from

Nha Trang sits on Vietnam’s south-central coast. Costa Serena sailed on from here to Phu My, for Ho Chi Minh City, in January 2026 and north to Chan May, for Hue, in February; longer Vietnam routes reach Ha Long Bay. Spectrum of the Seas sailed from Cam Ranh to Hong Kong in December 2024. CruiseMapper lists Royal Princess, Seven Seas Explorer, StarDream’s Star Voyager and Windstar’s Star Seeker for November 2026, and Costa Serena called three times early in the year. Khanh Hoa expected about 35 more calls after February 2026. See how the region fits together on our Asia cruises hub, or open Nha Trang on the Seabound Cruise Atlas.

Practical notes

Current as of October 29, 2026 Review periodically

Get the visa sorted before you sail.

For ordinary U.S. passport holders, a visa is generally required. Official immigration information confirms e-visas valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, through the portal at evisa.gov.vn.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.

Check the name, the passport number and the dates twice, then print it — a phone screen is a backup, not the document.

The port on the form has to match your itinerary.

Nha Trang appears on the official tourism authority’s list of seaports eligible for e-visa entry. Cam Ranh appears on the e-visa portal only as an airport, not a seaport — so confirm your actual arrival port before you apply, and on a Cam Ranh call ask your line in writing which checkpoint to name.

Then follow your cruise line’s instructions on whether clearance is arranged for the call or you need an individual visa. Not every line handles visas for you — ask yours.

If your sailing also calls at Phu My or Ha Long Bay, ask whether one single-entry visa covers all the Vietnamese calls.

Money: dong, with dollars widely taken.

The currency is the Vietnamese dong. Celebrity and What’s in Port both say many businesses accept US dollars, and ATMs are common in town.

Carry small dong notes for Po Nagar’s cash ticket desk, and haggle at the market. Check Vietnam’s customs rules on carrying large cash sums before you sail.

Taxis: use the meter.

Older guides to the Cau Da port say taxis and cyclos wait at the gate. We found no official fare, and nothing on taxi stands at Ana Marina or Cam Ranh.

One older guide put a small taxi at about 100,000 dong one way — dated, so treat it as a ballpark, not a fare.

Safety: traffic and bag snatchers.

The State Department’s national advisory for Vietnam is Level 1, exercise normal precautions (issued June 24, 2026; checked October 29, 2026). The State Department’s 2024 country page calls petty theft and bag snatching regular in tourist areas and road traffic dangerous.

Carry your phone and bag on the side away from passing motorbikes — common advice where snatching is reported, not a statistic.

Season: wet from September to December.

Local Vietnam puts the dry season at January to August and the rains at September to December, wettest in October and November. Tenders, boat trips and the cable car are most exposed then, so plan a dry-land backup. Your November call falls inside that window.

VinWonders has suspended the Vinpearl cable car from October 26 to November 10, 2026, with speedboats running to Hon Tre Island instead. The operator says service will resume as soon as possible after that, with no firm reopening date — recheck if you are reading this later.

Nha Trang FAQ

Can I walk from the cruise ship into Nha Trang?

Not really. The Ana Marina tender landing is about 7 km from downtown, and Cam Ranh is about 40 km away.

Plan on a taxi, a shuttle if your ship runs one, or a tour — not a walk.

Does Nha Trang tender?

Some ships do. Costa Serena anchored in Nha Trang Bay and tendered passengers to Ana Marina on its 2026 calls. Others dock at Cam Ranh and skip the tender entirely.

How far is Cam Ranh port from Nha Trang?

About 40 km, or roughly 25 miles, according to Vietnam News Agency reporting. Norwegian’s Cam Ranh tours run about 5½ to 7 hours.

Do US citizens need a visa for a Nha Trang port call?

For ordinary U.S. passport holders, yes — a visa is generally required, and the e-visa (valid up to 90 days, single or multiple entry) is the usual route. Your passport must be valid at least six months beyond arrival.

Follow your cruise line’s instructions on whether clearance is arranged or you need an individual visa. Not every line handles it, so ask before you sail.

Which port of entry do I put on the e-visa?

The entry location on the e-visa has to match your actual itinerary. Nha Trang is on the official tourism authority’s list of eligible e-visa seaports; Cam Ranh is listed on the portal only as an airport. Confirm your arrival port first, and if your ship docks at Cam Ranh or enters Vietnam elsewhere, ask your line in writing which checkpoint to name.

Can I use US dollars in Nha Trang?

In many places. Line and port guides say many businesses take dollars, but small dong notes make the market and temple tickets easier.

Is the cable car to Vinpearl running?

Not from October 26 to November 10, 2026 — VinWonders has suspended it for maintenance and runs speedboats to the island instead. The operator says service will resume as soon as possible after that, so recheck if you are reading this later. It also stops in strong wind.

Is Nha Trang safe for cruise passengers?

The State Department’s national advisory is Level 1, exercise normal precautions (issued June 24, 2026; checked October 29, 2026). Its main warnings are traffic and petty theft, especially bag snatching from motorbikes.
