What I would actually book
For most couples, start with a regular Balcony. Families should look hard at Luna’s Family Oceanviews, approximately 235–370 sq. ft. for up to four. Solo travelers should price the full ladder: Studio → Solo Inside → Solo Oceanview → Solo Balcony.
Studio
~94 sq. ft., Decks 12–13, with Studio Lounge access.
Balcony
The safest starting point for two people who enjoy private outdoor space.
Family Oceanview
~235–370 sq. ft. for up to four — price it before assuming Balcony is the upgrade.
Guarantee Balcony
Can be fully or partially obstructed, and assigned late.
Non-Haven Suite
Substantial family, forward-facing and aft-facing Suites — some aft configurations reach ~635 sq. ft.
Haven Sundeck age access
NCL’s own materials conflict on Luna — verify current policy if it affects your booking.
Start with the exact product
The ladder is useful for understanding what Norwegian sells. It is less useful for deciding what to buy — the exact cabin still needs its own scrutiny.
| Family | Category | Guests | Size | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | Studio | 1 | ~94 sq. ft., Decks 12–13 | Studio Lounge access |
| Solo | Solo Inside / Solo Oceanview | 1 | Varies | Solo Oceanview adds natural light |
| Solo | Solo Balcony | 1 | ~231 sq. ft. total, Deck 12 | Private outdoor space for one |
| Inside | Standard / Family Inside | Up to 4 | ~160–263 sq. ft. | Family Inside sleeps four via convertible beds + Pullmans |
| Oceanview | Large Oceanview | Up to 4 | ~235 sq. ft. | |
| Oceanview | Family Oceanview | Up to 4 | ~235–370 sq. ft., Deck 5 | Price before assuming Balcony wins |
| Balcony | Family Balcony | Up to 4 | ~231 sq. ft. total | |
| Balcony | Aft-Facing Balcony | Up to 4 | ~288 sq. ft. total | Buy it for the wake view, not just because it’s aft |
| Balcony | Guarantee Balcony | Up to 4 | Varies | Can be fully/partially obstructed; assigned late |
| Suite | Club Balcony Suite (standard / family) | Up to 4 | ~252–291 sq. ft. total | Not The Haven |
| Suite | Club Balcony (forward, large balcony) | Up to 4 | ~358–412 sq. ft. total | NCL notes wind bulwarks/windscreens |
| Suite | Non-Haven Suite (family/forward/aft) | Varies | Up to ~635 sq. ft. (aft) | Butler and concierge service advertised |

Don’t assume Studio has to win
Solo Inside buys more conventional cabin space. Solo Oceanview adds natural light. Solo Balcony adds private outdoor space and is approximately 231 sq. ft. total on Deck 12.
Approximately 94 sq. ft., one passenger, Decks 12 and 13, with Studio Lounge access. It works best for a traveler who spends little time in the cabin and values the dedicated solo setup. Keep shopping if natural light or substantially more private room is worth a modest premium.
Compare the actual solo fare across the full ladder.
Fits four, doesn’t spread out four
Standard Inside cabins range roughly 160–263 sq. ft. Family Inside is approximately 160 sq. ft. for up to four using two beds that convert to a queen plus Pullmans.
Four people fit. That is different from four people having room to spread out.
Price Family Oceanview before Balcony
Large Oceanviews are approximately 235 sq. ft. Family Oceanviews range 235–370 sq. ft., up to four, on Deck 5.
Price Family Oceanview before assuming Balcony is the upgrade. A larger Oceanview can provide more useful room than a smaller Balcony.
The safest starting point
Regular Balcony is the safest starting point for two people who enjoy private outdoor space. Family Balcony is approximately 231 sq. ft. total for up to four. Aft-Facing Balcony is approximately 288 sq. ft. total.
Buy aft because the wake view matters to you, not because someone online declared every aft cabin superior.
NCL warns that the view can be fully or partially obstructed and the cabin can be assigned late. Good for a passenger who values savings over location; poor for someone who needs exact placement.
Not The Haven
Club Balcony Suite is not The Haven. Standard Club Balcony Suite runs approximately 265–291 sq. ft. total; family versions 252–291 sq. ft. Forward-facing large-balcony versions reach approximately 358–412 sq. ft. total.
NCL warns that forward-facing accommodations may use solid metal bulwarks and/or glass windscreens due to wind exposure.
A better room without The Haven
Luna has substantial Suites outside The Haven, including family, forward-facing and aft-facing configurations. NCL advertises butler and concierge service with its regular Suite product. Some aft-facing non-Haven Suites reach approximately 635 sq. ft. total.
Do you want a better room, or do you want The Haven?
A genuine source conflict — flagged, not guessed
The Haven includes private dining/lounge space, outdoor facilities, pool, butler service, concierge service and priority benefits.
| Suite | Approx. size | Guests |
|---|---|---|
| Deluxe Owner’s Suite with Large Balcony | ~1,607–1,749 sq. ft. | Up to 6 |
| Aft-Facing Owner’s Suite | ~974–994 sq. ft. | Up to 4 |
| 2-Bedroom Duplex Suite with Large Balcony | ~900–904 sq. ft. | Up to 6 |
| Aft-Facing Penthouse with Large Balcony | ~830 sq. ft. | Up to 2 |
| 2-Bedroom Family Villa | ~606–658 sq. ft. | Up to 6 |
| Haven Penthouse with Balcony | ~368–418 sq. ft. | Up to 3 |
NCL’s dedicated Luna Haven material describes two sundecks, one all-ages and one adults-only. NCL’s Luna deck-plan material also describes Haven Sundeck access as restricted to guests 16+. Those statements do not cleanly agree. Families should verify current policy directly with NCL when access matters.
H4 cabins 10286 and 10886 do not include the outdoor hot tub. H5 cabins 12248 and 12852 do not have separate bedrooms. At Haven prices, verify the exact room.
It can be when you will use the private dining/lounge/outdoor facilities and dedicated service. But Luna’s non-Haven Suites create an important alternative — if the real problem is cabin space, solve that first.
Always compare one Suite with two connecting cabins
Family Inside is the budget choice. Family Oceanview is the category families should not skip. Family Balcony adds outdoor space. Family Club Balcony needs exact-layout comparison. Non-Haven Suite provides meaningful room and separation. Haven Family Villa or Duplex solves the multi-room problem at a much higher price.
What sits above and below matters
Deck 5 holds Oceanview inventory. Midship is the safest general starting point for motion-sensitive passengers. Forward buys distinctive views/large balconies with more wind/motion. Aft buys wake views and more walking.
Guarantee Balcony/Club Balcony
When location or obstruction matters.
Forward-facing rooms
If motion or windscreen/bulwark design concerns you.
Family Inside for four
When significant cabin time is expected.
Club Balcony with a large premium
And little practical improvement.
Haven cabins selected by category alone
When a specific feature matters — check the exact room.
Finish the sentence before you upgrade
More daylight. A private balcony. More interior room. A separate bedroom. A huge aft balcony. The Haven’s private spaces. “Because it’s the next category up” is not an answer.

Built from the current ship, not the class stereotype
The hard numbers use NCL’s current Norwegian Luna deck plan. Where NCL’s own materials conflict, this guide flags the conflict rather than guessing.
Published category names, occupancy, room and balcony dimensions, and Haven facility descriptions.
Which cabin is the better buy and what each rung of the upgrade ladder is really purchasing.
Haven Sundeck age-access language differs between NCL’s Haven material and its deck-plan material. This guide does not resolve it by guessing.
