How Palace Resorts scores
Family-owned, Mexico-centered, and built around sheer scale. Where the Hyatt brands sell you a loyalty currency and Sandals sells bundled sport, Palace sells hardware and a spending allowance — and it is the allowance, not the hardware, where almost all the confusion about this brand lives.
Scored across the all-inclusive portfolio. Most Palace properties take children; the adults-only offer is a small minority of the estate, and one of those is couples-only, not merely adults-only.
The destinations score is low because the estate is overwhelmingly Mexican, with one Jamaica property and a new Dominican Republic flagship. The value score is moderate rather than high specifically because of the resort-credit mechanics below: the realizable value of the credit is well below its headline allocation.
Resort credit: how it actually works
Resort credit is a genuine benefit with a great many conditions attached — and almost every misconception about Palace lives here.
What it is: a spending allowance against on-property extras — spa, golf, tours, photography, special dinners. It is not a discount on the room rate and not a rebate.
| The rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Per room, not per person | A family of four gets one room's allocation, not four. It is also not transferable between rooms in the same booking — so two rooms cannot pool. |
| Tiered by length of stay | A three-night minimum is required to earn any credit at all, with the allocation stepping up in bands from four nights through to twelve or more. The published retail bands and the Palace Elite member bands differ, so read the ones attached to your rate. |
| Rollover — but check it | Palace's current Resort Credit page says an unused balance carries a cash value redeemable for up to twelve months after your stay, and can even be gifted. Older Palace material says the opposite, that credit cannot be used or transferred for a future stay. The operator contradicts itself, so confirm the terms attached to your specific booking. |
| A mandatory surcharge on every redemption | A fixed percentage applies to each redemption and must be paid separately in cash or by card — the credit cannot pay it. Sources describe this variously as a service fee or as tax; either way it is out of pocket. |
| 24 hours' notice, and availability limited | Every redemption requires advance reservation, and no-shows are charged in full. |
| Rate-class restricted | Not available on agency, tour-operator, famtrip or travel-agent employee rates, and generally not combinable with other promotions. |
Tours and excursions run by the resort's own operator; golf rounds and academy lessons; spa and salon services; chef's and romantic dinners; a photography package capped at one per room; introductory scuba and, at one property, a two-tank morning dive; the dolphin program; bowling at one resort; and wedding packages above a minimum value.
The surcharge itself. Golf club or shoe rental. Golf at any non-Palace course. Tours run by any operator other than the resort's own — an independently booked excursion cannot be credited at all. Dolphin programs other than the designated one. Romantic dinners at a sister property. Photo albums and enlargements beyond the single covered package. Transport to the golf course from some properties. Small wedding packages below the threshold. And nothing converts to cash, products or merchandise.
Take those five conditions together and you should treat the headline allocation as a ceiling, not a value. The practical test is simpler than arithmetic: before you book, list what you would actually redeem it against — a spa treatment, a round of golf, one tour — and check those specific things are available on your dates. If you can't name three, the credit isn't the reason to choose Palace.
Four brands, and which one you are actually booking
"Palace Resorts" is a brand — not the parent company. The parent is The Palace Company — and it runs four labels that sit at different levels.
Moon Palace Resorts
The smaller Palace properties
Baglioni Hotels & Resorts
Guests at the participating Cancun-area properties can use the amenities and dining of the other Palace properties at no extra charge — a useful feature. But Le Blanc does not accept visitors from other properties, while Le Blanc guests may visit any of them. Booking a cheaper Palace resort planning to spend a day at Le Blanc doesn't work.
What is genuinely included
| Included | The detail that matters |
|---|---|
| Unlimited meals and snacks | Multiple à la carte venues plus buffet. The new Dominican Republic flagship runs nineteen restaurants. |
| Unlimited domestic and select international drinks | Note the qualifier. Le Blanc is stated as top-shelf; the standard Palace tier is not. |
| 24-hour room service | Included across Palace properties and Le Blanc alike. |
| The double whirlpool tub | A signature in-room fixture across the estate, not a suite upgrade — which almost no rival matches. |
| Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi | Resort-wide. |
| Gratuities and taxes | Stated as included. |
| Kids and teens clubs | Included; the Moon Palace facilities are gaming and immersive-play led. |
| Non-motorized watersports and land sports | Tennis, basketball, pickleball, fitness center, complimentary bikes at the larger properties. |
| Nightly entertainment | Shows, musical acts and themed parties, included. |
| Resort credit | Subject to every condition in the section above. |
One inclusion the sources disagree on: Palace property pages list unlimited phone calls as an in-room amenity, while a distributed inclusion sheet lists telephone calls as not included and the credit guides list long-distance calls as a credit-redeemable item. The likeliest reconciliation is that local calling is included and long-distance isn't, but we could not confirm it — so treat international calling as chargeable.
What still costs money
| Not included | Notes |
|---|---|
| Premium cuts of meat and seafood | The significant one. Lobster and premium steak carry a supplement inside the "unlimited meals" package. |
| International spirits above the "select" tier | A real ceiling on the standard drinks inclusion. |
| Golf green fees | Not included in any base rate at any property. Paid, redeemed against credit, or bought as a separate unlimited-golf package. |
| Golf club and shoe rental | Chargeable and excluded from resort credit — a double catch. |
| Spa treatments | All chargeable. At Le Blanc the hydrotherapy circuit is complimentary but individual treatments are not. |
| Tennis pro lessons | Court use is included; instruction is not. |
| Tours and excursions | All chargeable, and only the resort's own operator qualifies for credit. |
| Motorized watersports | Only non-motorized is included. |
| Certified-diver programs | Introductory scuba and one two-tank dive are credit-redeemable; certified diving is chargeable. Contrast Sandals, where it is a base inclusion. |
| Casino gaming | At the property that has one. |
| Airport transfers | Not a standard inclusion — they appear as a promotional add-on, which means they are otherwise chargeable. |
| Laundry and dry cleaning | Standard exclusion. |
Golf and entertainment
Golf is a genuine strength of the brand and it isn't included in any base rate. Both of those are worth stating plainly.
There are two routes to playing. Resort credit covers green fees and academy lessons, subject to the surcharge, and explicitly excludes club and shoe rental. Or a separate unlimited-golf package gives access to the group's championship courses. Palace sells it at the three Moon Palace golf properties and separately at Beach Palace, Sun Palace and Le Blanc Cancun, and markets it as covering everyone sharing your room.
Both Cancun-area courses are Jack Nicklaus Signature designs. The Dominican Republic facility carries a Nicklaus Signature layout and a Greg Norman Eco Signature layout — the addition of a second signature designer is new since 2025, and older guides describe Palace golf as Nicklaus-only.
Moon Palace's own site describes the Cancun course as twenty-seven holes while the designer's own course page lists it as an eighteen-hole championship layout. The likeliest explanation is a twenty-seven-hole facility from which an eighteen-hole routing is drawn, but we could not confirm it — so both figures are in circulation.
Nightly entertainment — shows, tribute acts, themed parties — is genuinely included. But we were unable to verify the existence, name, capacity or ticketing model of any large arena or headline concert program from primary sources. What we can say: the group runs convention-scale event facilities, and routine nightly entertainment is in the rate.
Who takes children, and who does not
Most of the estate is family-friendly, which inverts the assumption people often bring to a brand with a luxury adults-only flagship.
| Property type | Children |
|---|---|
| All five Moon Palace resorts | Yes — water parks, kids and teens facilities, multi-bedroom family suites at the newest property. |
| Beach, Playacar and Cozumel Palace | Yes. |
| Sun Palace | No — described by the operator as couples-only, which is narrower than adults-only. |
| Le Blanc, both properties | No — adults-only. |
Two honest gaps. Palace doesn't publish numeric age bands for its kids and teens clubs, so none are given here — the only published age facts are that under-fours must be supervised by an adult in the kids facility, and that the free-stay offer applies to seventeen and under. Babysitting and its charges are likewise not addressed in anything we could find. Confirm both directly if they matter to your booking.
An adults-only day club at the new Dominican Republic flagship was reported as planned for later in 2026 — not open at launch. Treat it as forthcoming.
Where Palace is — and the phased new flagship
Overwhelmingly Mexico, plus Jamaica and, newly, the Dominican Republic.
The Cancun area carries the largest cluster, with further properties in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, one resort in Jamaica, and the group's new Dominican Republic flagship. Le Blanc adds Cancun and Los Cabos.
The Dominican Republic property is the group's first there and the largest oceanfront resort in the country by room count — but it opened in phases. Reporting from late July 2026 describes it as open but still in soft launch, with several venues — including the adults-only day club — scheduled to come online later in 2026. It is an impressive resort; it isn't yet fully operational — and you should ask what is open for your dates.
A counting note: the brand's own boilerplate still says nine properties in Mexico and Jamaica, which hasn't caught up with its own destinations list now that the Dominican Republic is live. Separately, several older Palace names no longer appear on the current index. Isla Mujeres Palace was sold in March 2022, announced in Palace's own press room, with guests moved to Sun Palace. For Cancun Palace, Aventura Spa Palace and Xpu-Ha Palace we could find no such statement — so we would neither carry them forward nor declare them gone.
Where it sits, and what the step up costs
Palace and Le Blanc sit a full band apart, which is why they are sold as separate brands on separate websites, and the gap between them is one of the few here that holds its proportion year-round.
| Sub-brand or tier | Where it sits |
|---|---|
| Palace Resorts and Moon Palace | Premium. The big-box family and convention product. |
| Le Blanc Spa Resorts | Luxury. Adults-only, boutique-scale, butler-served, and separately recognized by AAA. |
| Baglioni | Not comparable. Conventional luxury hotels in Italy plus one all-inclusive Maldives resort. |
Moon Palace → Le Blanc runs somewhere around half again in the same market, measured against the upper Moon Palace product; against a standard Palace property the gap is wider by an amount we could not pin down. Unlike most steps on these pages, this one is built into the bricks: different hotels, different land, different scale — so it holds its shape across seasons in a way that a per-night club supplement never does.
No figures on this page are quoted by the brands. None of them publishes an official upgrade percentage, so every proportion here is derived from comparing published category rates across properties. Treat a step that buys a different room product — a suite instead of a room, a swim-up instead of a standard — as durable, because the scarcity behind it doesn't move. Treat a step sold as a flat per-night supplement as volatile: as a proportion it widens whenever the base rate falls, in a promotion or in low season, and compresses at peak. Resort credit isn't a discount, so don't net it off the rate when you compare — the realizable value is well under the headline.
Who Palace Resorts fits — and who should look elsewhere
You want scale and hardware — golf, water parks, a huge room, a whirlpool tub as standard — and you are willing to plan your resort-credit redemptions in advance to extract the value. Families and multigenerational groups do well here — and the exchange privilege between Cancun-area properties is a real advantage.
You want the headline inclusion to be simple. Between the credit surcharge, the vendor lock-in, the premium-cut supplements and the golf structure, this is the most conditional package of any brand we cover. Or you want a transferable points currency, or a destination outside Mexico.
If you asked us to pick
Name three redemptions, or ignore the credit
Availability is limited and 24 hours' notice is required, so credit only converts into value if you know what you want before arrival. If you can't name three things you would spend it on, choose the resort on its rooms and its golf instead.
Le Blanc, if the budget reaches
Butler service, an included hydrotherapy circuit and a genuine top-shelf drinks tier — plus one-way exchange privileges into every other Cancun-area property. It is a different product — not a nicer room.
A Moon Palace with the golf package
If anyone in the party plays, the unlimited-golf package is the only route that removes green fees from the equation entirely — and it is sold at the three Moon Palace golf properties and at Beach Palace, Sun Palace and Le Blanc Cancun.

Quick answers
Is resort credit money off my holiday?
No. It is a spending allowance against optional on-property extras — spa, golf, tours, photography, special dinners — not a reduction in your room rate. Palace's current terms say an unused balance holds a cash value redeemable for up to twelve months and can be gifted, while older Palace material says credit can't carry to a future stay at all. Because the operator contradicts itself, confirm the rollover terms on your specific booking instead of assuming either. Compare Palace rates against rivals on the room rate alone, then treat any credit you actually use as a bonus.
Is resort credit per person?
No, it is per room, per stay, and it isn't transferable between rooms in the same booking. A family of four gets one room's allocation. A three-night minimum is required to earn any credit at all.
Does resort credit make the spa and golf free?
Not quite. A mandatory percentage surcharge applies to every redemption and must be paid separately in cash or by card — the credit can't pay it. Redemption is also vendor-locked to the resort's own tour operator and golf courses, requires 24 hours' notice, and is limited by availability. The realizable value is well below the headline figure. Email the resort before arrival to reserve your redemptions; the good slots are gone by check-in day.
Is golf included at Moon Palace?
Not in any base rate. You either redeem resort credit against green fees, which excludes club and shoe rental, or buy a separate unlimited-golf package, which Palace sells at the three Moon Palace golf properties and also at Beach Palace, Sun Palace and Le Blanc Cancun.
Which Palace resorts are adults-only?
Both Le Blanc Spa Resorts, in Cancun and Los Cabos, are adults-only. Sun Palace in Cancun is described by the operator as couples-only, which is narrower still; everything else, including all five Moon Palace resorts, takes children.
Can I visit Le Blanc if I stay at another Palace resort?
No. The exchange privilege runs one way: Le Blanc guests may visit the other Cancun-area properties, but guests of those properties can't enter Le Blanc. Booking a cheaper resort planning to spend a day at Le Blanc doesn't work. If Le Blanc is what you actually want, book it directly rather than hoping to visit.
Is Palace Resorts the parent company?
No. Palace Resorts is one brand of four. The parent is The Palace Company, which also owns Moon Palace Resorts, Le Blanc Spa Resorts and Baglioni, a luxury brand spanning Italy and the Maldives that sits outside the resort-credit system entirely.
