The short answer

Fly into Istanbul Airport (IST). Cunard puts it about 40 km from the cruise terminal, roughly 40 minutes, and Guided Istanbul Tours says 40 to 50 minutes by taxi.

Taxis run on the meter: 71.94 lira to start and 47.92 lira a km since July 20, 2026, per Habertürk. By our arithmetic that’s about 2,000 to 2,250 lira on the meter for the trip, before any tolls. Havaist’s Sultanahmet line is 470 lira a seat, per Havaist, but it doesn’t stop at the terminal.

With suitcases, take a taxi or a ride app — the State Department suggests the apps in Istanbul, where it says taxis can overcharge.

Take a taxi or ride app if

  • You have cruise luggage
  • There are two or more of you to share it
  • You land on sail day

Take Havaist if

  • You’re travelling light
  • Your hotel is in Sultanahmet, Taksim or Beşiktaş
  • You want the cheapest ride

The Ride

What the ride costs

The taxi row is per car and is our arithmetic on the published meter, not a quote; the Havaist row is per person, as Havaist prints it.

Travelers
Taxi to the terminal, about 45 km on the July 2026 meter (our estimate, before tolls)—
Taxi, about 40 km on the same meter (our estimate)—
Havaist Sultanahmet line, per person—

One way, in Turkish lira, as published on October 19, 2026. Taxi figures are our arithmetic on Habertürk’s report of the July 20, 2026 tariff (71.94 lira to start, 47.92 lira a km); traffic waiting and any tolls add to it. Havaist’s English page also gives €8 for the same line.

Driving yourself isn’t worth it: Azamara says driving in from the airport isn’t recommended, and Galataport publishes no cruise-parking rate.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

No line we read publishes a boarding cut-off for Istanbul, so the row below is our own margin, not a rule. Use your line’s time from your documents.

  • A ride in with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 5 hours before the ship leaves.—

Flying overnight from the US, then immigration at IST and up to 50 minutes in traffic, a delay eats that margin fast. We’d land the day before.

Coming Home

The morning you’re back

Regent’s Seven Seas Mariner arrives at 08:00 on its September 2027 voyage ending here, and Guided Istanbul Tours says getting off at Galataport usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore; the planner sets out the ride and the wait.

Entry, Bags and SAW

Entry rules, bags and Sabiha Gökçen

Entry. The US State Department says Americans need no visa for 90 days or less on a tourist passport. It wants six months’ passport validity beyond the date you arrive, and one blank page. Türkiye’s own foreign ministry asks for 60 days beyond your stay, so the State Department’s rule is the one to meet. Türkiye isn’t in the Schengen area, so EES and ETIAS don’t apply.

Safety. The State Department rates Türkiye Level 2, exercise increased caution, citing terrorism, armed conflict and arbitrary detentions, in an advisory issued June 9, 2026. Its do-not-travel zone is within 10 km of the Syria and Iraq borders, a long way from Istanbul. It also suggests ride-share apps here, where it says taxis can overcharge.

Bags. Galataport’s Easy Point rents lockers by the hour, at the Visitor Center by the D Block entrance and on P1; no price is published. Havaist takes no seat reservations, per Milliyet, so a full bus means waiting for the next.

Sabiha Gökçen. SAW is about 40 km from the terminal on the Asian side, 40 minutes to an hour, per Cunard. For the terminal and the lines, see our Istanbul cruise guide.
