Destination Port Guide · San Antonio (Santiago), Chile

San Antonio (Santiago)

San Antonio is a cargo port that happens to take cruise ships, about 70 to 75 miles (115 to 120 km) from Santiago. Treat the day as a road trip — the capital, the Casablanca Valley wineries or the poets’ coast — not a stroll from the gangway.

San Antonio (Santiago) in brief

San Antonio is one of two ports that cruise lines file under “Santiago”. The other is Valparaíso, up the coast — so check which one your ticket names.

The capital is the draw, and it’s a long way off. Sources put the port at about 70 to 75 miles (115 to 120 km) from central Santiago, and the drive at roughly 1.5 to 2 hours each way.

The ship ties up at a cargo terminal.

DP World runs the passenger calls at its multipurpose terminal. Oosterdam opened the 2025–26 season there in December 2025. It docked at Sitio C1, and more than 1,000 passengers went ashore.

Your line has the final word on this season’s berth. Princess, for one, says its port location is subject to change.

The terminal handled 14 calls and more than 58,000 passengers and crew in 2025–26. It has seen about 491,000 visitors across 157 ships since the first call in April 2017.

The calls are short, and the season is small.

We count 14 calls for 2026–27 — our tally, not the port’s. Seabourn Pursuit arrives November 4, and AIDAsol follows on November 30. The January to March 2027 listings we found show 8 more, from Oceania, Holland America, Carnival, Regent and Azamara.

Those calls run about 8 to 10 hours: Oosterdam is listed 07:00 to 17:00 on February 23, and Seven Seas Mariner 07:00 to 15:00 on March 6. A Santiago round trip eats most of that clock. Plan for the road, not just the sights.

Some sailings begin or end here.

Holland America and Seabourn both sell last-day tours from San Antonio that finish at the Santiago airport or a hotel — with flight-time limits. If yours is a turnaround, the port is your airport transfer, not a port call.

Our San Antonio shore excursion guide sorts the Santiago day, the wine tours and the Neruda coast. Read it before you book a seat.

Off the ship: a cargo berth, then a road

Docked
DP World multipurpose terminal

Oosterdam used Sitio C1 in December 2025. Oosterdam docked, so no tender was involved; confirm yours with your line.

Ask the Line
Shuttle or no shuttle?

We found no shuttle described between the berth and the gate. Ask your line what it provides and where it stops, before you plan around it.

Near the Gate
Taxis and buses

One port guide says taxis and buses cluster near the terminal, and still advises arranging transport ahead. Don’t count on finding a ride. A traveler blog puts the San Antonio bus station, on Angamos, close to the port.

∼70–75 mi
Santiago

About 115 to 120 km, and roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road. Seabourn lists the drive from the pier as roughly two hours.

∼55 mi
Valparaíso

About 91 km from San Antonio, by the Litoral de los Poetas guide. Ask any operator how long the drive takes.

From the Airport
Shared shuttles and buses

From Santiago’s airport, shared shuttles run about 2 hours at 40,000 to 70,000 CLP a person, per iSouthAmerica. Its Terminal Alameda buses don’t stop at the cruise terminal.

Santiago’s Plaza de Armas La Moneda Club Hípico Los Dominicos handicraft market Casablanca Valley wineries Valparaíso hills Viña del Mar Isla Negra (Neruda’s house) Algarrobo El Quisco Cartagena (Huidobro museum) Paseo Bellamar San Antonio natural history museum

Inland, the pull is Santiago. Holland America’s tour runs through Club Hípico, Parque O’Higgins, Plaza de Armas and the Los Dominicos market. Seabourn adds La Moneda and San Cristóbal Hill.

Between the coast and the capital sits the Casablanca Valley, about 80 km from Santiago and 40 km from Valparaíso, per Visit Chile. The Litoral de los Poetas runs along the shore, from Algarrobo to Santo Domingo.

The town is a seafront, not a sightseeing day. Shore Excursions Group points to Paseo Bellamar for sea lions, pelicans, a small fishing pier and a fish market, and the town’s natural history museum shows a blue whale skeleton.

Commonly reached from

San Antonio is a Chile-coast call, and some sailings begin or end here. In December 2025, about 1,200 passengers boarded Oosterdam for Puerto Montt — see our Puerto Montt cruise port guide. Voyages that run further up the Pacific coast may include Callao for Lima. The other Santiago port is covered in our Valparaíso cruise port guide. Lines in the calls we found for 2026–27: Seabourn, AIDA, Oceania, Holland America, Carnival, Regent and Azamara. The wider region lives on our South America & Antarctica hub.

Practical notes

Current as of October 29, 2026 Review periodically

Read the advisory first.

The State Department rates Chile at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution. That’s a national rating, not a San Antonio one, and the advisory is dated August 19, 2026. The version we read names Valparaíso and Viña del Mar for street crime, phone scams and card fraud.

Its taxi advice is plain: use regulated taxis with orange or yellow plates, or a legal ride-share app, and skip unmetered cars. Recheck travel.state.gov before you go.

Sort the road before the sights.

Santiago is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours away. No taxi fare is published, so price it before you leave. One traveler blog notes a taxi needs a driver willing to make a trip of more than 100 km, so book ahead.

Shared shuttles from the airport run 40,000 to 70,000 CLP a person. Buses from Terminal Alameda cost 5,000 to 8,000 CLP one way and take 2 to 2.5 hours, but they don’t stop at the cruise terminal.

Watch the clock.

In the January to March 2027 listings we found, calls run about 8 to 10 hours. Seven Seas Mariner is listed 07:00 to 15:00 on March 6.

A tour of 7 to 8 hours fits a 10-hour call. On an 8-hour call, it’s tight — there’s no slack for a late coach. Ask your operator when the coach must be back and what happens if it isn’t.

Carry some pesos.

The currency is the Chilean peso, and sights price in CLP. Many Casablanca wineries take dollars or international cards, per Visit Chile, but small towns and market stalls are another matter.

Paperwork for U.S. citizens.

For ordinary U.S. passport holders, the State Department says no visa is needed for tourist stays of 90 days or less. You get a Tourist Card on arrival and hand it back on leaving, and your passport must be valid for the stay.

Cruise-line paperwork is separate from government rules. Check what your line asks of you.

The Neruda house.

Casa Museo Isla Negra lists Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, so a Monday call likely rules it out. Check hours for your date.

San Antonio (Santiago) FAQ

Where do cruise ships dock at San Antonio?

At DP World’s multipurpose terminal. Oosterdam docked at Sitio C1 when it opened the 2025–26 season, and there’s no tender.

Can I walk from the ship into San Antonio?

No walking route is published, and one traveler blog calls the port area industrial. Plan on a vehicle, not your feet, and ask your line what it offers at the gate.

How far is San Antonio from Santiago?

About 70 to 75 miles (115 to 120 km). Allow roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road, more in traffic.

Princess’s port page says about 30 minutes, which doesn’t match the other sources we read. Plan on the longer time.

Is there a shuttle from the San Antonio cruise port?

Cruise lines sell their own transfers and tours, so ask yours what it provides and where it drops you.

Is my “Santiago” cruise at San Antonio or Valparaíso?

Look at the port name on your itinerary, not the word “Santiago” beside it. Princess files these tours under “San Antonio (for Santiago)”, and Holland America lists “San Antonio (Santiago)”.

Is San Antonio safe for cruise passengers?

Chile is at Level 2 in the State Department’s August 19, 2026 advisory, a national rating. The version we read names Valparaíso and Viña del Mar for street crime.

Use a booked car or tour, and keep valuables out of sight. A booked ride beats a hailed one.

Do U.S. citizens need a visa for Chile?

Not for tourist stays of 90 days or less, for ordinary U.S. passport holders. You receive a Tourist Card on entry, and your passport should be valid for the whole stay — your line may ask for more, so check with it.

When do ships call at San Antonio?

Last season ran from October 30 to April 2, with February the busiest month. For 2026–27 we count 14 calls, starting with Seabourn Pursuit on November 4.
