What actually defines the class
Three features carried this class, and Carnival refined each one as it built the next ship.
SkyRide, free on every ship
A rider-powered recumbent bike suspended about 150 feet up, on an 800-foot elevated track. It's complimentary, with a 52-inch height minimum and a 250-pound weight limit — no booking, no fee, just a line on a nice sea day.
IMAX — on two of the three
Vista and Horizon both carry a genuine IMAX theater, the first at sea. Panorama swaps it for Sky Zone, a licensed indoor trampoline park with a climbing wall and dodgeball sessions — a real venue, not a downgrade, just a different one.
Havana, the paid Cuban-themed enclave
A dedicated pool, hot tub and bar reserved 24/7 for Havana-cabin guests only (12+ age minimum). It wasn't always fully exclusive — Carnival closed a loophole that let other guests in after 7 p.m., ending in November 2019 — so older reviews describing evening access are out of date.
Family Harbor debuted here
Before it rolled out fleet-wide (including later to the Excel ships), Family Harbor — family cabins clustered near a dedicated lounge — started on this class. It's one of the clearest signs Vista class was the template, not an afterthought.

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and Bonsai Sushi are on all three. Bonsai Teppanyaki hibachi and a Chef's Table are on Horizon and Panorama, but not Vista. JiJi Asian Kitchen is aboard all three ships.
Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse is paired with a brewhouse on Horizon and Panorama; on Vista, the brewing side stands alone as RedFrog Pub & Brewery instead. Small layout quirk, same barbecue.
Vista Class vs. Excel Class — the honest scale comparison
Vista class runs about 133,500 to 133,868 gross tons, carrying roughly 3,900 to 4,000 guests at double occupancy. Carnival's Excel ships (Mardi Gras, Celebration, Jubilee) run 180,000-plus tons with more than 5,200 guests — call it 35 to 40% bigger. That's a real, citable gap, not a marketing exaggeration.
What you get in exchange for the smaller hull is most of the modern Carnival experience — Havana, Family Harbor, SkyRide, a real specialty-dining variety — without BOLT or the six-zone layout, generally in a less crowded ship and at a fare that tends to run below Excel for a comparable itinerary. If the biggest, newest hardware and the deepest dining lineup matter more to you than the fare, Excel is the better fit; if you want the substance without the premium, Vista class is built for exactly that trade.
How the Vista Class is actually received
We'll give you the numbers, because they hold a genuine surprise. On Cruise Critic's own member ratings, Vista and Horizon both sit at 4.0 out of 5, while Panorama — the one ship without IMAX — actually rates highest at 4.5 out of 5. Losing the big screen for Sky Zone hasn't hurt her with guests; if anything, it's a reminder that "newest" and "most amenities" aren't the same thing as "best received."
Recurring, verifiable complaints across the class: cabin noise (wave and wake sound on lower decks, live music bleeding into cabins near the Havana Bar, and noise near Ocean Plaza on Deck 5), inconsistent service and food quality in the main dining rooms compared to the paid specialty restaurants, tight sightlines in the Liquid Lounge theater, and no heated pools. Embarkation and disembarkation have also drawn complaints about chaotic simultaneous boarding and exit flows. None of this is disqualifying — Vista won Cruise Critic's 2016 "Best New Ship" editors' pick at launch — but go in expecting a casual, high-energy Carnival ship rather than a quiet, premium-line experience.
