Carnival Horizon

Vista's near-twin, two years newer, with a Miami homeport that opens the classic Caribbean up properly. Same platform, a couple of genuine refinements, a different city.

Carnival Horizon in one read

Carnival Horizon followed Vista into the fleet two years later, and Carnival used the time to refine a couple of details rather than reinvent the ship. She carries the same IMAX theater, free SkyRide, and Havana enclave as Vista — plus Bonsai Teppanyaki hibachi and a dedicated Chef's Table, which Vista doesn't have, and a Dr. Seuss-themed WaterWorks water park.

Her home is Miami, which puts the classic Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean squarely in reach. Her christening, by Queen Latifah in May 2018, raised $100,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and unveiled a permanent atrium art piece made from patient artwork — a nice, lasting touch that's still aboard today.

Where she sails

Durable pattern, not a fixed schedule — verify your exact sailing.

Miami, for now. Horizon sails 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern and Eastern Caribbean round-trips from PortMiami — Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and Nassau are typical calls. Carnival has announced she's scheduled to relocate to Galveston starting May 2027, so this Miami base is a 2026-and-earlier picture, not a permanent one.

If you're booking for 2027 or later, confirm her homeport directly with Carnival before you commit — this is one of the more concrete deployment changes on the books for the Vista class.

A nice permanent touch

Horizon's atrium carries the Dreamscape LED sculpture, unveiled at her 2018 christening and made from 33 artworks by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patients — part of a $100,000 Carnival donation tied to her naming ceremony.

Cabins & suites

The neighborhoods

  • Havana — Cuban-themed cabins with 24/7 exclusive pool and bar access.
  • Family Harbor — family cabins near a private lounge.
  • Cloud 9 Spa — cabins with Thermal Suite access.

Suites

  • Grand Suite, Ocean Suite, Junior Suite — Carnival's standard higher-tier categories.
  • Exact GT and max-capacity figures vary a little by source — treat precise numbers as approximate.

07

The honest read

The same class-wide complaints apply here: cabin noise from waves, wake and live music near the Havana Bar; inconsistent main dining room service and food compared to the specialty restaurants; tight theater sightlines in the Liquid Lounge; and no heated pools. Embarkation and disembarkation flows have also drawn complaints.

Horizon currently sits at 4.0 out of 5 on Cruise Critic's member ratings — solid, in line with Vista, and a notch below Panorama's 4.5. None of this makes her a lesser ship; it's the standard trade-off of a casual, high-energy Carnival experience over a quiet, premium one.

08

Our verdict

Horizon is the pick if you want a Miami departure and the fullest dining lineup in the Vista class — Bonsai Teppanyaki and the Chef's Table are hers, not her Florida sister's. She's a strong, well-rounded choice for classic Caribbean weeks.

Book her while she's still in Miami — a move to Galveston is on the books for May 2027, so confirm her homeport if you're booking further out. Her godmother, Queen Latifah, christened her in New York in May 2018, tying the ceremony to a $100,000 donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
