Mykonos

Two very different arrivals share this one island — a tender to the Old Port puts you steps from town; a dock at Tourlos puts you a SeaBus or taxi away. Which one you get depends on your ship, not your line.

Mykonos in brief

Mykonos is the Cyclades' best-known nightlife-and-beach island, and its cruise port splits across two genuinely different areas. The Old Port sits right at the edge of Mykonos Town (Chora) and takes tenders from ships anchored in the bay; the New Port at Tourlos, about 1.2 miles north, is a real dock that some smaller ships use directly.

A new dedicated tender-berth pier at the Old Port — built to handle up to four tenders at once — was reported in 2026 trade press as easing the congestion that used to slow this arrival down, though we couldn't confirm an opening date.

This page covers Mykonos itself: which arrival you might get, what's walkable from each, and what genuinely needs a SeaBus, taxi, or boat. It's built to work the same whether you're arriving from Athens (Piraeus) or Rome (Civitavecchia).

02

Old Port or Tourlos — know which one first

Mykonos genuinely has two different port days built in, and they don't feel alike.

Old Port, In Town
Tender, walk into Chora

Larger ships anchor in the bay and tender in here — right at the edge of Mykonos Town. A new dedicated tender-berth pier (up to 4 tenders) was reported opening in 2026 to speed this up.

Tourlos / New Port
~30 min walk, or the SeaBus

About 1.2 miles (3.5 km) north of town. Smaller ships dock here directly. The seasonal SeaBus (10-12 min crossing, roughly every 30 min) is the easiest way into Chora from here — walking is possible but long.

Either Way
Confirm before you plan

Which one your ship uses isn't yours to choose — check your line's boarding documents rather than assuming a walkable Old Port arrival.

What's nearby, broadly

Mykonos Town itself is most of the draw here, with the beaches and Delos as the add-ons:

Mykonos Town/Little Venice Windmills Beach club day Delos day trip Nightlife

A short call favors staying in town — Little Venice and the windmills are a genuine walk-off-the-ship option from the Old Port. A longer one opens up a beach club or the Delos ferry.

Mykonos is one of the most-called Greek Isles stops we cover. This list grows as Seabound builds out more embarkation-port guides — it isn't Mykonos's whole story, just the ones documented so far.

Practical notes

Current as of September 14, 2026 Review periodically

The same €20 (~$21) per-passenger sustainability fee that applies at Santorini also applies at Mykonos, confirmed by two independent sources.

The Old Port's new tender-berth pier is recent (2026) trade-press news, and we couldn't confirm an opening date as of September 2026 — a developing fact, not a settled one. Confirm current tender operations with your line.

Mykonos FAQ

Do ships dock or tender at Mykonos?

Both happen, depending on the ship. Larger vessels anchor in the bay and tender ashore to the Old Port, right in Mykonos Town. Smaller ships dock directly at the New Port in Tourlos, about 1.2 miles north.

Which arrival is better — Old Port or Tourlos?

The Old Port puts you within walking distance of Mykonos Town immediately. Tourlos is a real walk (about 30 minutes) or a SeaBus/taxi ride — plan around whichever your ship actually uses.

Is there a tourist fee at Mykonos?

Yes — a per-passenger sustainability fee of about €20 (roughly $21) applies, the same figure charged at Santorini.

Is Mykonos only reached from Athens (Piraeus)?

No. It's also a standard stop on Rome (Civitavecchia)'s Greek Isles round-trips.
