Cruises From Rome (Civitavecchia)

Rome's cruise port isn't in Rome — it's a separate city 50 miles away. That distance shapes almost everything else on this page, starting with how you get there.

Five ways into this guide

Pick the question you actually have. Each card goes straight to the answer, not back to the top.

01

In brief

Your itinerary says "Rome (Civitavecchia)", and the word in brackets is the one that matters. Civitavecchia is its own port town, about 50 road miles up the coast from central Rome. Getting from one to the other takes 50 minutes to two hours, depending on how you travel. Plan it as a transfer, not a hop.

It's a big embarkation port in its own right. At least five lines start cruises here, and Port Mobility counts five cruise terminals on seven numbered docks. The two newest, the Amerigo Vespucci and the Donato Bramante, opened in 2018 and at the end of November 2025.

One port, two kinds of cruise. Western Mediterranean sailings head for Barcelona and the French and Spanish coast; Greek Isles sailings head for Santorini, Mykonos and Turkey. Check which one you're on before you read the destinations below.

02

Cruise lines sailing from here

This is the one section on this page built to go stale on its own clock, so it's kept in one block, dated, sourced — and not repeated anywhere else on this page.

Current as of September 14, 2026

Five lines run homeport programs here: Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises, the two busiest on the turnaround schedules we read; Royal Caribbean International, with Legend of the Seas and Odyssey of the Seas on both Western Med and Greek Isles sailings, per its own itinerary pages; Celebrity Cruises; and Princess Cruises, with Enchanted Princess and Sun Princess. When we re-read cruisemapper's turnaround list on October 4, 2026, it also showed Viking ships starting cruises here.

Norwegian, Holland America, Carnival and AIDA show up on the same schedules, but we didn't check each against the line's own itinerary pages. If you're booking one of them, check the line's site.

The list comes from aggregated turnaround data, the record of which ships board and land passengers here. We checked it against Royal Caribbean's own pages, not every line's. Confirm your own ship and date before you plan around it.

Sources: cruisemapper.com's turnaround-schedule data for Civitavecchia, cross-checked against Royal Caribbean's own Western Mediterranean and Greek Isles itinerary pages — verified September 14, 2026. Confirm your own line, ship, and sailing date directly before booking around this list.

Where you can go

The stops below come from both regions. Barcelona and Marseille are embarkation ports in their own right, so their cards link to our guides for each, with the terminals and the ways around town. The other cards don't link anywhere yet.

Common, not guaranteed — port order and content vary by line, ship, and season, so check your specific itinerary rather than assuming from the pattern below.

Five terminals, seven docks, 50 miles from Rome

Roma Cruise Terminal (RCT), owned by Costa, MSC and Royal Caribbean, runs the cruise terminals; Port Mobility Civitavecchia runs the shuttles and the parking. Port Mobility counts five cruise terminals on Docks 10, 11, 12, 12bis, 13 and 13bis, plus Dock 25 across the harbour. The Amerigo Vespucci Terminal opened in 2018 at about 12,500 m², with more than 60 check-in counters. The Donato Bramante Terminal on Pier 12 was inaugurated at the end of November 2025, with 23 check-in desks.

A free shuttle runs from every pier to the Largo della Pace service centre, about 10 to 15 minutes. On ship days a CSP bus also runs from Civitavecchia station to the ships, €6 each way, roughly 7am to 7pm. Port Mobility doesn't publish which line uses which dock, and neither does any line we read except MSC, whose page names the Vespucci. Your cruise documents name yours, so go by those, not a past sailing.

05

Parking, in short

Parcheggio Nord is the port's own lot, and Port Mobility's parking page calls it the only one inside the port. Its FAQ also names a second in-port lot, "Cruise", with no prices. Stable

€1.20/hour, €17/24 hours, and weekly rates of €79 (€69 online) in high season or €69 (€59 online) otherwise — with a free shuttle to your ship.

Civitavecchia FAQ

Which cruise lines actually homeport at Civitavecchia (Rome)?

At least five, on the turnaround schedules we read in September 2026: Costa, MSC, Royal Caribbean (Legend of the Seas and Odyssey of the Seas, on its own itinerary pages), Celebrity and Princess. Cruisemapper's list also showed Viking in October. Norwegian, Holland America, Carnival and AIDA call too, but we didn't check them against the lines' own pages.

Is Civitavecchia actually in Rome?

No. It's a separate port town about 50 road miles (80 km) from central Rome. The itinerary calls it Rome, but getting into the city takes 50 minutes to two hours, depending on how you travel, so plan the trip in.

Where does a cruise from Civitavecchia actually go?

Two regions. On Western Mediterranean itineraries: Naples/Capri, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Marseille, and La Spezia (for Florence/Pisa) are common. On Greek Isles itineraries: Santorini, Mykonos, and Kusadasi (Turkey) are common, usually alongside Naples/Capri. Check your own line's specific itinerary — the two regional patterns don't usually mix on the same sailing.

How much does parking cost at the Civitavecchia cruise port?

€17 for 24 hours at Parcheggio Nord, the port's own lot, per Port Mobility. Weekly rates run €79 (€69 booked online) in high season (May 16-Oct 31) or €69 (€59 online) the rest of the year, with a free shuttle to the ship.

How do I get from Rome’s airport to the Civitavecchia cruise port?

It's a real trip, not a quick transfer — about 66km (41 miles) by road from Fiumicino (FCO) to Largo della Pace, where the port's free shuttle starts, roughly 49 minutes with no traffic by our routing. Taxis charge a fixed €130 a car, either way, all supplements included, per ADR and Roma Mobilità. The cheapest independent route is the FL1 train to Roma Trastevere or Ostiense, then the FL5 to Civitavecchia (about every 30 minutes, €4.60), then the port's €6 station bus or the free shuttle from Largo della Pace. Budget real time either way.
