Cruises From Marseille

France's busiest cruise port, per its port authority, split between two terminal areas miles apart. MPCT, the main hub, isn't the same trip as the smaller J4 terminal in the old port.

01

In brief

Marseille is France's main Mediterranean cruise gateway, and its cruise traffic is split between two very different areas. MPCT (Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal), at Gate 4 on the port's northern edge, is the main hub — five lettered terminal buildings (A through E, per the port authority) handling most of the port's embarkation traffic, including its largest ships. The much smaller J4 Terminal sits beside the Vieux-Port, under the cathedral, within walking distance of Marseille Cathedral and the MUCEM museum, and is used for smaller ships.

MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises carry Marseille's regular turnaround programs; five more lines start some voyages here, by September's turnaround-schedule data, and you should confirm those with the line.

Marseille's location on the French Mediterranean coast, between Barcelona and the Italian Riviera, makes it a natural anchor for Western Mediterranean itineraries — Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia), both embarkation ports in their own right elsewhere on this site, are among its most common stops.

Cruise lines sailing from here

This is the one section on this page built to go stale on its own clock, so it's kept in one block, dated, sourced — and not repeated anywhere else on this page.

Current as of September 14, 2026

MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises are the two you can count on. MSC's own Marseille page names MPCT as its embarkation terminal, and a sailings aggregator we checked on October 4, 2026 listed Marseille departures for those two lines only.

In September, cruisemapper's turnaround data also showed Royal Caribbean International (Legend of the Seas and Brilliance of the Seas), Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line (ms Oosterdam), Oceania Cruises and Azamara starting some voyages here. We couldn't confirm those on the lines' own sites, so treat them as occasional.

Norwegian Cruise Line, TUI Cruises (a German-market line), and Ambassador Cruise Line (a smaller UK line) also call at Marseille, on a narrower basis than the seven lines above.

Aggregators track which ships embark and disembark here, not what each line will sell you. Check your own line and sailing before you build a trip around this list.

Where you can go

Marseille sits west of the French Riviera, with Spain on one side and the Italian coast on the other, so a week-long round-trip can reach both. Two of the destinations below — Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia) — are themselves embarkation ports we cover; their cards link to their own guides for the terminal and getting-around information, since no dedicated day-trip excursion guide exists yet for either. Every other card below is a plain, unlinked reference rather than a link to a page that doesn't exist.

Common, not guaranteed — port order and content vary by line, ship, and season, so check your specific itinerary rather than assuming from the pattern below.

Two terminal areas: MPCT and J4

MPCT (Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal), at Gate 4 on Chemin du Littoral, is the main embarkation hub. Confirmed directly on MPCT's own site: Terminals A and B (each about 6,000 m²) handle most turnarounds, with Terminal B adjoining a 10,000 m² covered parking structure and described as catering to the port's largest ships. Terminal C, about 9,000 m², was under renovation when we read the operator's site in September 2026; in October its parking page loaded for us but its terminals page didn't, so we couldn't recheck. Terminals D and E are smaller, primarily for transit (port-of-call) passengers rather than turnarounds.

The J4 Terminal, on Boulevard Jacques Saade in the historic Vieux Port, is a separate, smaller facility for smaller ships — within walking distance of Marseille Cathedral and the MUCEM museum, a far shorter walk into town than anything at MPCT's Gate 4.

Marseille FAQ

Which cruise lines actually homeport at Marseille?

MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises run the regular turnaround programs; MSC's own page names MPCT as its embarkation point. September's turnaround data also showed Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Holland America, Oceania and Azamara starting some voyages here, which we couldn't confirm with the lines. Norwegian Cruise Line, TUI Cruises and Ambassador Cruise Line call on a narrower basis.

Does Marseille have more than one cruise terminal?

Yes, two separate areas. MPCT (Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal) at Gate 4 is the main hub, with terminals A through E handling most embarkation traffic. The much smaller J4 Terminal sits beside the Vieux-Port, under the cathedral, within walking distance of the cathedral and the MUCEM museum, for smaller ships.

Where does a cruise from Marseille actually go?

A Western Mediterranean mix. Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia) are the most consistent stops — both embarkation ports in their own right elsewhere on this site. Palma de Mallorca and Genoa show up regularly. La Spezia, Messina, and Valletta (Malta) appear on a narrower set of longer itineraries. Check your own line's specific itinerary.

How much does parking cost at the Marseille cruise terminal?

€15 for a 24-hour period for cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes (no height limit), confirmed directly on MPCT's own site. Stays of 10 to 30 days pay a flat €150 instead, per MPCT's parking page, read October 4, 2026.

How do I get from Marseille Provence Airport to the cruise terminal?

About 20 km by road, per MSC, or 18.6 km to MPCT by our routing. A taxi is the fastest direct route, about €50 per MSC. The public-transit route is the airport shuttle to Saint-Charles station (30 to 50 minutes, per the airport's 2026 timetable), then Metro Line 2 to Joliette, then bus 35T, which runs only on cruise days, or the port's free shuttle to the port — confirmed via Marseille's own tourism-office guide.
