Holland America has no new ships on order as of 2026. Instead it has launched Holland America Evolution, a roughly $500 million guest-experience program that reworks staterooms and adds new solo verandahs, panoramic suites and the Grand Dutch Café across the Vista and Signature ships. As always, only confirmed dates are worth planning around.

Two honest caveats. On families: kids are welcome, and the Pinnacle ships even have family staterooms and Club HAL, but the crowd skews older and the atmosphere is traditional — the score reflects fit, not quality. On entertainment: the Music Walk live-music venues and World Stage are genuinely good, but if you want big-budget, arena-scale production shows, this deliberately isn't that line.

Eurodam (2008) and Nieuw Amsterdam (2010) are an enhanced Vista design — a little larger, with an extra deck for more staterooms and venues, including the panoramic Tamarind pan-Asian restaurant and the Music Walk. Zuiderdam (2002), Oosterdam (2003), Westerdam (2004) and Noordam (2006) are the fleet's largest group by ship count — well-liked for their generous space-to-guest ratio and prized for Alaska, Antarctica and scenic voyages. Two specialty restaurants rather than five, and live music centered on the Rolling Stone Lounge and Billboard Onboard rather than the newer ships' full Music Walk — but the same service and refined feel, usually at a lower fare. Pinnacle

Newest and most complete — World Stage, the full Music Walk, five specialty restaurants and family staterooms. The most to do, at the top of the fare range.

Signature

A touch smaller and more intimate, with most of the same experience — Tamarind, Music Walk, refined dining — usually at a friendlier price.

The honest read: Choose Pinnacle for the freshest hulls and the widest dining; choose Signature for the sweet spot of experience, intimacy and value. Both are excellent for couples.
Vista vs R Class

Vista

Classic mid-size ships with a great space ratio, live music, and a strong record in Alaska and scenic cruising — often the best value in the fleet.

R Class

Dining & music

Two signatures define a Holland America day: a refined culinary program, and the best live-music offering at sea. Together they set the tone far more than production shows do.

Dining

Refined and Dutch-accented — the Pinnacle Grill steakhouse anchors the specialty lineup, alongside Canaletto (Italian), Tamarind (pan-Asian), and — on the Pinnacle-class ships — Rudi's Sel de Mer (French seafood) and Nami Sushi. The Dining Room, Lido Market and Dive-In round out the everyday, with the Grand Dutch Café for a European touch.

Enrichment at the table — a longstanding America's Test Kitchen partnership brings cooking demonstrations and classes, part of a broader, unhurried focus on food and learning.

Music Walk

The line's signature — a cluster of live-music venues including B.B. King's Blues Club, Billboard Onboard (dueling pianos), the Rolling Stone Lounge and Lincoln Center Stage (classical). In our view it's the strongest live-music offering at sea — in its fullest, most coordinated form on the Pinnacle and Signature ships, with a lighter lineup on the older Vista and R-class vessels.

Plus the World Stage — the Pinnacle ships add a 270-degree LED theater. The result is entertainment that's about music and atmosphere rather than big-budget spectacle — which suits the crowd perfectly.

Club Orange, cabins & suites

Holland America's step-up options are more understated than the big suite enclaves elsewhere, but they're genuinely useful ways to elevate a sailing.

Club Orange

An accessible premium bump — Club Orange adds priority services, a dedicated Club Orange restaurant for breakfast and dinner, a possible stateroom upgrade and other perks, for a per-person daily fee. It's a flexible way to elevate the experience without buying all the way up into a top suite.

For suite guests, Neptune and Pinnacle suites add the concierge Neptune Lounge and extra amenities — a quieter, more personal layer rather than a full ship-within-a-ship.

Cabins & feel

Elegant and understated — Holland America staterooms are comfortable and classic rather than flashy, with fresh flowers, a high proportion of verandahs, and (under Holland America Evolution) new solo verandahs and panoramic suites on the refreshed ships.

The overall feel is calm and grown-up — a mid-size ship where public rooms rarely feel crowded, which is a large part of the line's appeal.

Holland America offers accessible staterooms across categories, and its mid-size ships are generally easy to navigate; the newer Pinnacle and Signature ships have the most modern accessible infrastructure, while the older Vista and R-class ships are more limited.

Holland America rewards repeat guests through the Mariner Society, and shapes most of its pricing through the Have It All bundle.

Mariner Society — status by days sailed

Mariner Society status is earned primarily by the number of days you sail (with bonus stars for onboard spending and suites), building through star levels toward perks like laundry, priority services, discounts and milestone gifts. It's a steady, traditional program rather than a headline reason to choose the line.

Have It All — most fares are sold cruise-only or as the Have It All bundle, which adds shore excursions, specialty dining, a drinks package and Wi-Fi. Bundled at the right price it can be strong value — but only if you'll use the inclusions, so compare it against the base fare for your sailing. Club Orange can be layered on top.

Half Moon Cay

Holland America's private island is one of the most highly rated in the Caribbean — and it's changing. Treat this as a snapshot and confirm details for your sailing.

Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvador, Bahamas) Active

A private Bahamian island with a long crescent of white-sand beach, consistently rated among the best private destinations at sea. The draw is a classic, low-key beach day — swimming, a horseback ride into the surf, watersports, cabanas and a mostly included barbecue — rather than a waterpark. Featured on many Caribbean itineraries.

A new pier & enhancements Underway

Historically a tendered call, Half Moon Cay is being developed with a new pier and expanded facilities (branded "RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay") that will let ships dock directly — a meaningful upgrade to access. Timing and which ships benefit are still settling, so verify for your specific sailing.

A shared Carnival Corp. island Good to know

Half Moon Cay is owned within Carnival Corporation and also visited by its sister brands, so it isn't exclusive to Holland America — but it remains a signature stop on many HAL Bahamas and Caribbean sailings.

Where Holland America sails

Few lines sail as globally for their size. Deployments shift yearly; read this as the durable pattern, and verify your homeport and itinerary before booking.

Alaska is a signature strength — a large seasonal presence, Glacier Bay access, and, because Holland America owns the Westmark hotels in the Alaska–Yukon region, some of the most extensive land-and-sea cruisetours to Denali and the interior.
