In brief
Rotterdam (2021) is the newest and, on the fleet's own figures, the largest Pinnacle-class ship — the fifth vessel to carry Holland America's own name, and the one that tends to draw the longest, most far-flung itineraries the line sells, from Grand Voyages to the Panama Canal.
Is Rotterdam the right ship for you?
One question, honestly scored.
Why Rotterdam, specifically
Rotterdam is the fifth ship to carry Holland America's own company name — a lineage that goes back to the line's earliest transatlantic era — and Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, marking her fifth turn as a Holland America godmother, christened this one in 2022 following an October 2021 maiden transatlantic crossing.
Where her sisters kept Lincoln Center Stage, Rotterdam swapped it for the Rolling Stone Rock Room, and she carries the freshest run of Holland America's Entertainment Evolution program — the new Vivace string ensemble, the Dam Band, and the regional-soloist rotation that follows wherever she happens to be sailing.
But her real job is range. As the newest, largest Pinnacle ship, Rotterdam tends to get the assignments that need the newest hardware for the longest stretch — Grand Voyages, Panama Canal transits, and the kind of multi-week itinerary that's the sharpest expression of "the destination is the product" in the whole fleet.
Our Built to Solve piece calls the Grand World Voyage the industry's most on-the-nose proof that Holland America means it. Rotterdam, as the newest and largest ship in the class, is squarely built for that kind of trip.
Staterooms and the tiers above them
The Pinnacle-class template, refreshed with the latest décor and, at delivery, the newest build standard in the fleet.
Cabins
Staterooms carry the class's usual high proportion of verandahs and calm, classic design, updated with the latest materials and finishes available at her 2021 delivery.
Family oceanview staterooms are available, matching Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam.
The premium tiers
Neptune and Pinnacle suites add the concierge Neptune Lounge, the same as her sisters.
Club Orange is available as a per-person daily upgrade, though — like Koningsdam — it doesn't have Nieuw Statendam's dedicated, purpose-built restaurant space.
Food and performance aboard
The same deep five-restaurant lineup as her sisters, with the newest run of the line's live-entertainment overhaul.
Where you'll eat
Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Tamarind, Rudi's Sel de Mer and Nami Sushi, alongside the Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In and the Grand Dutch Café — unchanged from the rest of the class.
Her interiors were designed by Tihany Design in partnership with Yran & Storbraaten, giving the dining venues the freshest execution of the Pinnacle-class look.
What plays at night
Rotterdam swapped Lincoln Center Stage for the Rolling Stone Rock Room — the class's newest live-music venue configuration — alongside the standard B.B. King's Blues Club and Billboard Onboard.
She's a flagship for Entertainment Evolution: the new Vivace string ensemble, an expanded Dam Band role, six revitalized World Stage productions, and the regional-soloist rotation, tuned to wherever she's actually sailing that week.
The long runs
Rotterdam handles the fleet's longer, more far-flung voyages — Grand Voyages, Panama Canal transits and extended repositioning crossings — with Alaska seasons mixed in as well.

A balanced view
In her favour
- The newest and, on the line's own figures, largest ship in Pinnacle Class
- The freshest run of Entertainment Evolution — Vivace, the Dam Band, regional soloists
- Built for the fleet's longest, most distinctive itineraries — Grand Voyages, the Panama Canal
- Same deep five-restaurant specialty lineup as her sisters
The trade-offs
- No dedicated Club Orange restaurant — that's Nieuw Statendam
- Lighter, less habitual Alaska season than Koningsdam
- Long-voyage itineraries are a poor fit for anyone without flexible time off
