Why Koningsdam, specifically
Koningsdam's job was never to be the biggest thing in the harbor.
She introduced the light-filled, music-themed design language that defines Pinnacle Class, and that includes Music Walk, grouping B.B. King's Blues Club and Billboard Onboard's dueling pianos into one deliberate entertainment run.
Then Holland America pointed her straight at Alaska, where the destination-first thesis actually pays off.
That's not incidental. A ship this size, this new, lets Holland America run a serious Alaska season and still connect passengers at the pier to the Denali Lodge and the McKinley Explorer's glass-domed railcars.
The line owns that infrastructure rather than renting it. Koningsdam is the piece of that machine that floats.
Named for King Willem-Alexander (Koningsdam translates roughly to "King's dam"), she was christened by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands in 2016 — a fittingly formal start for the ship that would go on to define an entire class.

The rooms
Staterooms carry the fleet's usual high proportion of verandahs, fresh flowers, and the calm, uncluttered feel that defines Holland America over flashier competitors.
Family oceanview staterooms are available. They were part of the class's original push to make Pinnacle ships slightly more workable for multigenerational groups than the older Vista and R-class ships.
Stepping up
Neptune and Pinnacle suites add the concierge Neptune Lounge and extra amenities — a quieter, more personal layer rather than a ship-within-a-ship.
Club Orange is available fleet-wide as a per-person daily upgrade. On Koningsdam it comes with a dedicated Club Orange restaurant, as on both her sisters.

Five specialty restaurants: the Pinnacle Grill steakhouse, Canaletto (Italian), Tamarind (pan-Asian), Rudi's Sel de Mer (French seafood) and the Morimoto by Sea Sushi Bar, alongside the Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In and the Grand Dutch Café.
America's Test Kitchen cooking demonstrations run as part of the line's broader enrichment focus — food as something to learn about, not just eat.
After dinner
Koningsdam carries the original Music Walk lineup — B.B. King's Blues Club and Billboard Onboard, joined in December 2018 by the Rolling Stone Rock Room — plus the 270-degree World Stage LED theater.
Entertainment Evolution layers a regional soloist program on top. Expect folk guitar sets on Alaska sailings — the music follows where the ship actually is rather than a fixed script.
