Cruises From Rotterdam

Rotterdam is Holland America’s home port, and in 2026 and 2027 Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam are based here for most Northern Europe sailings. A few itineraries start in Reykjavik or Dover, so read the port on your booking. You board on the Wilhelminapier, in a 1940s shed across the Erasmus Bridge — a metro ride from Centraal, not a trip out to an industrial port.

01

In brief

For cruise passengers, Rotterdam means Holland America. The line’s 2027 release says Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam “will continue to homeport in Rotterdam, the Netherlands”. Its old flagship, the ss Rotterdam, is a hotel now — moored across the water from your ship.

The terminal sits on the Wilhelminapier, a short walk from Hotel New York. From Rotterdam Centraal it’s about 2.3 road miles by our routing — or a metro ride to Wilhelminaplein and a four-minute walk, per Holland America.

Most travelers fly into Schiphol, about 40 miles by road (Holland America’s figure; our routing says 39.3).

One name causes confusion. MSC sells this port as “Rotterdam (Amsterdam)”, but you board here, not in Amsterdam.

If your ship only spends a day in Amsterdam, that’s a port day, and our Amsterdam port guide covers it; this page is for sailing from Rotterdam.

Cruise lines sailing from here

Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced, and turnarounds are kept apart from day calls.

Current as of October 4, 2026

Holland America is the homeport line. Its 2026 release has Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam sailing from here spring to fall — 7-day Norway fjords trips, 14-day Baltic & Scandinavian Capitals loops, Canary Islands runs and Arctic sailings. The release speaks of ships that “return to homeport in Rotterdam”.

A 2025 extension added late-2026 Nieuw Statendam voyages “roundtrip or one-way from Rotterdam”. A May 2026 release goes further — Nieuw Statendam stays in Europe year-round, with Christmas-market and Mediterranean sailings from here into early 2028.

This autumn the port’s own schedule shows a Holland America ship every week or two, in from 07:00 to 15:00.

MSC markets the port as “Amsterdam via Rotterdam” and lists “Cruises from / to Rotterdam (Amsterdam) in 2026”, without naming ships on that page. Cruise Industry News reported in June 2026 that Preziosa’s winter program, late October to April, runs seven-night cruises from Hamburg, Rotterdam, Southampton, Le Havre and Zeebrugge. The port’s list, read October 4, shows Preziosa on October 20 and 28, 07:00 to 17:00, with MSC Virtuosa on October 21 and MSC Magnifica on October 7. Your booking names the departure port; ask your advisor to confirm it.

Day calls, not departures: Cruise Port Rotterdam lists 25 lines as customers, from AIDA and Cunard to Princess and Royal Caribbean. A customer list isn’t a homeport list — most of those lines call for a day.

A trade report lists Princess’s 2026 European homeports without Rotterdam, and we couldn’t confirm a Rotterdam embarkation on Celebrity’s, Royal Caribbean’s, Viking’s or AIDA’s own pages.

Sources, read October 3–4, 2026: hollandamerica.com (Rotterdam port page; Europe 2026, 2027 and year-round releases; the 2025 extension), msccruises.com.au (Rotterdam page), cruiseportrotterdam.nl (cruise calls and customer list), Seatrade Cruise (Princess 2026) and CruiseMapper (2027 fjord report). The schedule doesn’t flag turnarounds, so we take those from the lines’ own words. Confirm your own ship and date before you plan around them.

Where you can go

Holland America’s releases sort Rotterdam sailings by region, not by port: Norway, the Baltic capitals, the Arctic, the Canaries, the Mediterranean.

Every stop below is named in one of those releases, except Flåm, which comes from a CruiseMapper report on the 2027 fjord program. Treat them as real calls, not a promise for your ship.

Seven have pages of their own. Two of them — Copenhagen and Kiel — are embarkation ports too. Read your own itinerary before you plan a day ashore.

One terminal, in a listed shed on the pier

Cruise Terminal Rotterdam is the fifth of five sheds built on the north side of the Wilhelminapier between 1946 and 1949.

Cruise ships have used it since 2000. It became a Rijksmonument, a national listed building, in 2011 and was renovated in 2014 and 2015, per Cruise Port Rotterdam.

The port describes a passenger hall of about 3,000 m² — free Wi-Fi, tourist information and a taxi rank, not a shopping mall.

The port gives the address as Wilhelminakade 699, 3072 AP.

Holland America’s port page prints 669. It’s the same building — we use the port’s number. Our maps put the pin on that address point, not on a gangway.

Parking, in short

The port’s cruise parking isn’t at the terminal. It’s the lot in front of the ss Rotterdam in Katendrecht, about 1.8 road miles away by our routing, with a free shuttle to the terminal for boarding passengers.

Cruise Port Rotterdam charges €19 per 24 hours, takes no reservations and has you pay at the ship’s reception when you’re back.

Three figures float around for the same lot. The port says €19, the ss Rotterdam’s own FAQ says €22 (about US$25) for a 24-hour ticket, and MSC’s page says €13 (about US$15).

The port runs the cruise parking — plan on €19, and check the sign on the day.

Getting here

Schiphol is the airport most people use, and the train beats the road on most days. Rotterdam The Hague Airport is much closer — and much smaller.

Brussels is about 85.7 road miles (138.0 km) away by our routing, though no line or port page we read mentions it.

AMS — SchipholIntercity direct to Rotterdam Centraal in 26 minutes, per NS, with a €3.20 (about US$4) supplement for that stretch. NS’s planner shows the base fare for your date, and it can run weekend track works.About 39.3 miles (63.2 km), roughly 56 minutes with no traffic, by our routing; Holland America says about 60 minutes. It puts a taxi at about €95 (about US$105).
RTM — Rotterdam The HagueBus 33 to Meijersplein, then metro E into town, about 30 minutes, per the airport.About 6.5 miles (10.5 km) by our routing. Taxis wait beside the terminal building; the airport prints no fares.
Rotterdam CentraalMetro D or E to Wilhelminaplein, four stops, or tram 3 or 5; Holland America calls it a four-minute walk from there.About 2.3 road miles (3.7 km) by our routing.

The trams changed numbers. RET renumbered the old 23 and 25 as trams 3 and 5 in January 2025. Works at Hofplein divert many lines until November 22, 2026 — check RET on the day.

MSC’s page sends you to “Willemsplein”; RET’s metro stop for the terminal is Wilhelminaplein.

Taxis run on a national ceiling. Dutch rules cap a metered ride for up to four at €4.31 (about US$5) to start, €3.17 (about US$4) a kilometre and €0.52 (about US$0.58) a minute in 2026.

On our Schiphol routing that ceiling works out near €234 (about US$265), our arithmetic. Two transfer companies quoted €123 to €138 (about US$140–155) for a sedan when we checked, against Holland America’s €95. Fix the price before you get in, not at the curb in Rotterdam.

Uber and Bolt use their own pick-up point at Schiphol.

Holland America sells its own transfers between Schiphol and the pier, booked through your advisor with flight details 14 days ahead. The price isn’t published — ask for it in writing.

Arrive a day early and the harbour is the obvious afternoon. Spido’s 75-minute harbour tour leaves from the foot of the Erasmus Bridge — €18.75 (about US$20) for adults and €10.55 (about US$12) for children, per Spido.

The Euromast in Parkhaven opens daily from 9:30 to 22:00. Tickets are €17.50 (about US$20) at the door or from €13.50 (about US$15) online, so buy on the phone, not at the till.

The Markthal keeps market hours, 10:00 to 20:00 Monday to Thursday and noon to 18:00 on Sunday. The ss Rotterdam runs daily tours aboard the old flagship — its page didn’t show prices.

The port’s tourist desk is at the Port Pavilion on Schiedamsedijk, closed Mondays.

Rotterdam FAQ

Where is the cruise terminal in Rotterdam?

On the Wilhelminapier, across the Erasmus Bridge from the centre. Cruise Port Rotterdam, which runs it, gives the address as Wilhelminakade 699, 3072 AP; Holland America’s port page prints 669 for the same building. It’s the only sea-cruise terminal on the port’s own schedule.

Which cruise lines sail from Rotterdam?

Holland America is the big one. Its releases say Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam homeport here in 2026 and 2027. MSC sells cruises “from / to Rotterdam (Amsterdam)”, and the port’s schedule lists MSC Preziosa calls from late October 2026. We couldn’t confirm a Rotterdam departure for the other lines on the port’s customer list, so check your own booking.

How do I get from Schiphol to the Rotterdam cruise terminal?

Take the Intercity direct to Rotterdam Centraal, 26 minutes per NS on a normal day, with a €3.20 supplement for that stretch. NS schedules track works some weekends and nights, so check its planner for your date and the day before; if the direct train is cancelled, a slower train or a booked transfer is the backup. Then ride metro D or E, or tram 3 or 5, to Wilhelminaplein, a four-minute walk from the terminal per Holland America. By road it’s about 39.3 miles (63.2 km), roughly 56 minutes with no traffic, by our routing.

How much is a taxi from Schiphol to the Rotterdam cruise port?

Holland America puts it at about €95. Two transfer companies quoted €123 to €138 for a sedan when we checked, and the national maximum meter tariff would allow about €234 on our routing. Agree a fixed price before you set off; Dutch rules say it has to be agreed before the ride starts.

Is there luggage storage at the Rotterdam cruise terminal?

Not at the pier, per Holland America. Leave bags at your hotel, or use a storage service near Rotterdam Centraal; Bounce, a booking site, listed spots from €3.50 (about US$4) a day when we read it.

Is a Rotterdam cruise the same as an Amsterdam cruise?

No. MSC markets Rotterdam as “Rotterdam (Amsterdam)”, but your ship leaves from the Wilhelminapier. Holland America says Zuiderdam cruises from Amsterdam in 2027 while Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam stay here, so check which port your booking names.
