ss Rotterdam
The former Holland America flagship, now a hotel, with the port's own €19 cruise parking in front of it and a free shuttle to the terminal.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Rotterdam
Twenty hotels for a Rotterdam cruise, from the Wilhelminapier to Blijdorp and Schiphol, scored on what gets you to Cruise Terminal Rotterdam, not on reviews. Only two publish anything for the cruise itself: the port’s parking at the ss Rotterdam and a park-and-ride package at Van der Valk. They lead — the walk sorts the rest.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (rental cars) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
ss Rotterdam leads for drivers: the port’s own cruise car park, €19 (about US$20) per 24 hours, is in front of it. Flying in? Start with Hotel New York or nhow, a short walk from the ship. Van der Valk Blijdorp is second on the only cruise package we found, a night with parking and a ride to the terminal. Room Mate Bruno is the closest bed of all, about 65 m on foot from the terminal’s address.
Narrow the list by what your night needs, then tick up to three to compare side by side — we set the order, and the shortlist is up to you.
We checked 25 hotels and ranked the twenty that are open and publish enough to score. Five didn’t make it, for reasons we spell out — they’re listed here.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Schiphol · about 39.3 miles (63.2 km) to the terminal, our routing; Intercity direct to Rotterdam Centraal in 26 minutes
NS times the Intercity direct from Schiphol Airport to Rotterdam Centraal at 26 minutes. That stretch needs a €3.20 supplement in NS's 2026 price list, plus €1.60 (about US$2) for a single-use card. The base fare loads only in NS's planner, so we don't print one.
From Rotterdam Centraal, metro D or E and trams 3 and 5 run to Wilhelminaplein, which Holland America puts four minutes on foot from the terminal. RET takes contactless bank cards. Trams 3 and 5 were 23 and 25 until January 2025, and Hofplein works divert trams until November 22, 2026.
Holland America puts a taxi from Schiphol to the terminal at about €95. Taxis wait at the official stand in front of Schiphol Plaza and run on the meter. The national maximum in 2026 is €4.31 (about US$5) to start, €3.17 (about US$4) a km and €0.52 (about US$0.58) a minute. On our 63 km route that allows far more than €95 — agree a fixed price before you set off.
City Airport Taxis quoted €135.79 (about US$150) for a three-seat sedan from Schiphol to the cruise port and €123 for a premium sedan, with meet-and-greet and an hour's wait. AirportsTaxiTransfers quoted €137.50 (about US$155) and €125.00 (about US$140) the other way. Both are resellers' online quotes, read October 3, 2026.
Holland America sells transfers between Schiphol and Rotterdam for its own guests, booked through your advisor or the line, with flight details 14 days ahead. Its port page shows no price.
RET bus 33 runs from the airport to Meijersplein, where metro E continues to Rotterdam Centraal and on to Wilhelminaplein. The airport says the trip into the city takes about 30 minutes.
Taxis wait right next to the terminal building, per the airport, which prints a booking number but no fares. Our routing puts the terminal about 6.5 road miles from the airport.
Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt share the Car Rental and Service Desk in Schiphol Plaza. At Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Sixt and Avis work from the Car Rental Center at Airportplein 4. A car suits Blijdorp or a drive to the port's lot, not the centre.

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. Rotterdam’s grander nights include two that tell the Holland America story — its old head office and its old flagship. Michelin’s Rotterdam listing showed no Key beside any of our picks when we read it, so the splurge list leans on what each place offers.
Every distance here ends at Esri’s point for Wilhelminakade 699, Cruise Terminal Rotterdam’s address — a point on the pier, not a gangway. Hotels in the city are measured on foot by our routing, since the walk over the Erasmus Bridge is how many people will picture it. Blijdorp and Schiphol get road miles with no traffic — a floor, not a promise.
Four of the twenty stand on the Wilhelminapier or just behind it, and five sit across the bridge in the Maritime District or across the Rijnhaven in Katendrecht. Seven are by Centraal, Coolsingel or out west, one is in Blijdorp and three are at Schiphol — a train ride, not a walk. Driving? The port’s cruise parking is at the ss Rotterdam in Katendrecht, so that’s the hotel closest to your car, not to the terminal.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things make a Rotterdam night before easy or hard, and here the car decides more than the walk. We score each one only from what the hotel publishes, its brand’s pages, or, where we say so, the port’s.
A fact nobody prints earns no points. Booking sites don’t count — three hotels are known to us from the MICHELIN Guide’s listings and three from Schiphol’s own pages, and their pages say so. A distance to “Port Rotterdam” or the water-taxi stop isn’t a distance to the cruise terminal.
By band, from Cruise Terminal Rotterdam: the Wilhelminapier and Kop van Zuid 30; the Maritime District and Katendrecht 25; Centraal, Coolsingel and the west 20; Blijdorp 15; Schiphol 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20 — Van der Valk’s. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel prints at half a mile or less 15; none does. A named partner 10 — the port’s free shuttle from the car park at the ss Rotterdam.
A published rate to leave the car while you cruise 20; offered, price or length unpublished, 14. The ss Rotterdam scores 20 because the port’s own €19 lot is at its door and paid at its desk — a rate the port publishes, not the hotel. Van der Valk scores 14: its package includes parking without saying for how many days.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. One of the twenty says so; Van der Valk’s comes only inside its package, so it doesn’t count.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. No beach points here.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the shorter distance to the terminal by our routing, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. Four tie on 33: Room Mate Bruno and Pincoffs go first on parking of their own, then nhow and Hotel New York by distance. The DoubleTree and Haven Hotel tie on 31, split by our walking distance, and the Bilderberg goes ahead of The Usual on 28 for parking on site. Hilton and Le Marin go ahead of Morgan & Mees and the Marriott on 23 for parking on site. citizenM goes ahead of NH Atlanta on 20 the same way, and the three Schiphol hotels on 13 split on on-site parking, then distance.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren’t scored — and neither are review scores or stars. Where a brand or the tourist board prints a star count, the hotel’s page shows it with that source. None is the official Dutch Hotelsterren rating — we didn’t read that register.
Put the city’s cut on top before you compare two rates. Rotterdam’s logiesbelasting is 6.5% of the overnight price in 2026, per the city — about €13 (about US$15) on a €200 (about US$225) night, our arithmetic. The city’s page counts Wi-Fi, linen and cleaning in that price and doesn’t say whether VAT is in the base, so ask the hotel.
Two of our twenty publish anything for a car during the cruise, and the port publishes the rest. Here’s what’s printed, from the hotels to the port.
At the hotels. Daily rates, mostly. citizenM prints €24.95 a day on site, Pincoffs €27.50 a night for a reserved space until noon, the Bilderberg and NH Atlanta €29.50, Hilton €35.00, the DoubleTree and Haven €37.00 (about US$40), the Holiday Inn Express €37.50 (about US$40) and nhow’s Q-Parks €40.00 (about US$45). The Rotterdam Marriott’s garage prints the only weekly rate, €192.50, and NH Atlanta names Park and Ride Kralingse Zoom at €18 (about US$20) a day for up to 72 hours. None says a car can stay for a cruise.
In a package. Van der Valk Blijdorp’s Park, Sleep & Fly bundles a night, breakfast, the ride to the terminal and free parking for one car. It costs from €89.34 a person for two. It doesn’t say how many days the car can stay, so ask before a long sailing.
At the port. Cruise Port Rotterdam’s long-stay lot is beside the ss Rotterdam in Katendrecht, at €19 per 24 hours. You pay at the ship’s reception on the Main Deck when you’re back — cash or card, no reservations. A free shuttle runs to the terminal for boarding passengers, and you’ll need your boarding pass and the parking ticket. The ss Rotterdam’s own FAQ prints €22 (about US$25) for 24 hours on the same lot, and MSC’s older page €13; we go by the port, which runs it.
| The port’s lot at the ss Rotterdam, €19 per 24 hours | — |
Our total counts one 24-hour period per cruise night at the port’s €19. Seven nights come to €133 (about US$150) — if you’re back at the car inside the last period. Go over and it’s another €19.
Every option side by side: Rotterdam cruise parking, compared.
We checked 25 hotels; twenty were open and published enough to score. Hotel Des Indes in The Hague is on the splurge list with six of these twenty.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| Hotel Baan, Rochussenstraat | Known to us only from a travel guide and booking listings; we found no official site to confirm it's open. Not ranked. |
| Stroom Rotterdam | Only booking aggregators turned up, no official site, so its open status is unconfirmed. Not ranked. |
| Mercure Schiphol Terminal and YOTELAIR | Airside, behind security at Schiphol, per the airport — no use for a night before a cruise from Rotterdam. |
| Mainport and Inntel Hotels Rotterdam Centre | Both still exist under new names: the Mainport is now Haven Hotel Rotterdam, Curio Collection, and the Inntel is now the DoubleTree Centre, ranked above. |
| Hotel Des Indes, The Hague | A grand hotel about 17 road miles away in The Hague, on the splurge list rather than here. |
Schiphol is the big one, about 39.3 road miles (63.2 km) from Cruise Terminal Rotterdam by our routing. That's roughly 56 minutes with no traffic — Holland America says about 60. The Intercity direct runs from under the airport to Rotterdam Centraal in 26 minutes, per NS, with a €3.20 supplement.
Rotterdam The Hague Airport is the close one, about 6.5 road miles away, with bus 33 and metro E into town. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes; the airport page has the train, the taxi quotes and the metro to Wilhelminaplein.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.

On our scoring it's the ss Rotterdam, the old Holland America flagship moored in Katendrecht. Cruise Port Rotterdam's own long-stay lot is in front of it, at €19 per 24 hours, with a free shuttle to the terminal. Van der Valk Blijdorp is second on its Park, Sleep & Fly package. Room Mate Bruno is third — about 65 m on foot from the terminal's address, by our routing.
Rotterdam has one sea-cruise terminal: Cruise Terminal Rotterdam on the Wilhelminapier, Wilhelminakade 699, per Cruise Port Rotterdam, the operator. Holland America prints the house number as 669; the building is the same. Every ship on the port's 2026–27 schedule that we read is listed there. River cruise boats use other quays in the city, so check that your documents say Cruise Terminal Rotterdam.
From the Wilhelminapier, easily — Room Mate Bruno, nhow and Hotel New York are a few minutes away by our walking routes, and Pincoffs about 0.6 miles. From the centre it's a walk over the Erasmus Bridge. From Centraal, take metro D or E, or tram 3 or 5, to Wilhelminaplein — four minutes from the terminal, per Holland America.
At the port's own lot beside the ss Rotterdam in Katendrecht. Cruise Port Rotterdam charges €19 per 24 hours, paid at the ship's reception when you return, with no reservations and a free shuttle to the terminal. The ss Rotterdam's own FAQ prints €22 for 24 hours on the same lot and MSC's older page €13, so ask which rate applies. Van der Valk Blijdorp sells parking inside a package, and the Rotterdam Marriott's garage prints €192.50 a week.
6.5% of the overnight price in 2026, per the City of Rotterdam. The city's page counts extras like Wi-Fi, linen and cleaning in that price. It doesn't say whether VAT is in the base — ask the hotel what it charges on. Hotels at Schiphol pay Haarlemmermeer's tax, which we didn't research.
About 40 miles away. MSC lists its sailings as "Rotterdam (Amsterdam)", but the ship leaves from Cruise Terminal Rotterdam. Holland America puts Schiphol about 40 miles (65 km) and 60 minutes from the terminal, depending on traffic. If you want a night in Amsterdam too, take it before the train south, not on sail morning.
None of the twenty runs a shuttle from Schiphol. The three Schiphol hotels are a walk from the terminal there, and Van der Valk Blijdorp's Park, Sleep & Fly includes a transfer from Rotterdam The Hague Airport. From Schiphol, the Intercity direct reaches Rotterdam Centraal in 26 minutes, per NS.
Rates move every day. Any number we printed would be stale by the time you read it — a guess, not a fact. The ranking uses what a Rotterdam hotel can’t reprice overnight: the walk or metro to the Wilhelminapier, the ride, parking, breakfast and the evening.
