Sydney Harbour has two cruise terminals. Your boarding document tells you which one is yours.
The Overseas Passenger Terminal sits on Circular Quay West, at the corner of Argyle and George Streets in The Rocks. White Bay Cruise Terminal is out on James Craig Road in Rozelle, and it opened in April 2013.
Don’t assume a line keeps one terminal. The Port Authority of NSW schedule we read has Carnival Adventure at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on October 8 and at White Bay on October 12.
Same ship, four days apart.
So this page has no line-by-line terminal list. Where a pairing isn’t verified, we say so, not guess.
The 2026-27 season opened in early September with Crown Princess. When it ends, we couldn’t confirm.
Open your boarding document before you book a flight or a car. Everything below hangs on the pier it names.
One pier has the city at its door
The Overseas Passenger Terminal is the easy one.
The Port Authority’s pages give the walk from Circular Quay’s station as five to ten minutes — with a ferry wharf 450 metres off and Wynyard about ten minutes on foot. Plan on the longer figure if you’re dragging bags.
White Bay is a different story.
Its page lists a taxi rank directly outside and says staff direct coach pick-ups for airport transfers — but it names no train, bus, light rail or ferry route. That’s a gap in what we read, not proof there’s nothing, so ask your line how it expects you to arrive.
Garden Island, the Navy’s Fleet Base East, isn’t among the terminals on the Port Authority pages we read, and we found no official word on cruise use. A “Channel Berth” shows up as a berth name on the schedule.
We read nothing more about it.
| Terminal | Address | What the Port Authority says |
|---|---|---|
| Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) | Corner of Argyle and George Streets, Circular Quay West, The Rocks NSW 2000. Holland America and Royal Caribbean print it as 130 Argyle St. | Elevated gangway. Taxi rank at the terminal. No parking on cruise ship days. Rail, ferry and light rail at Circular Quay. |
| White Bay Cruise Terminal (WBCT) | James Craig Rd, Rozelle NSW 2039. Holland America and Royal Caribbean print 2041 James Craig Rd. | Berths 4 and 5, parts of 3 and 6. Elevated gangway, metal detection and x-ray screening. Taxi rank outside. Train, bus, light rail: not confirmed. |
Below is the first page of the Port Authority’s October cruise schedule, as we read it. These are ship calls, and the page doesn’t say which are turnarounds.
Don’t read a row as a Sydney departure.
| Ship | Date | Time on schedule | Berth |

Bag drop: nine to the minute
Both terminals open bag drop at about 9 a.m.
Closing is where they differ. The gap is half an hour, which matters when a taxi is crawling.
The Port Authority tells passengers to arrive at least an hour before departure. Your cruise line sets the check-in time on your boarding document, though, and that one beats ours.
| Overseas Passenger Terminal | White Bay | |
|---|---|---|
| Bag drop opens | About 9 a.m. | Typically about 9 a.m. |
| Bag drop closes | About 90 minutes before departure | One hour before departure |
| Arrive by | At least an hour before departure; online check-in recommended | At least an hour before departure |
| Car drop-off | Lower roadway, Circular Quay West. Two minutes. | Drop-off zone near the entrance. Two minutes. Short-stay car park, 15 minutes. |
| Bags between hotel and ship | Storage offered nearby by Bounce, per the Port Authority. Price not read. | No storage at or next to the terminal |
If you need help walking, tell your line in advance. Both terminals say it arranges assisted entry and an escort.
Getting off is its own job.
The Overseas Passenger Terminal runs a morning taxi rank on Level 3, reached from Hickson Road, and Holland America warns that waits can reach an hour. Book a transfer ahead if you can.
Drop-off is two minutes at both, per the Port Authority — though Royal Caribbean’s guidance says three. Go by the shorter number and stay with the car.

Leaving the car: the short version
You can’t leave a car at the pier.
The Port Authority says there’s no parking at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on cruise ship days, and White Bay has no long-term parking either.
Wilson Parking sells prepaid cruise parking at six garages, from A$20 (about US$14) to A$51 (about US$35) a day on the page we read on October 6, 2026 — seven days at the A$25 (about US$17) garage is A$175 (about US$120) by our arithmetic, and at the A$51 (about US$35) one it’s A$357 (about US$250). Wilson’s page doesn’t name its currency — so we read those rates as Australian dollars.
Price your own dates before you commit. Our arithmetic is a guide, not a quote, and the train may beat it anyway.
Which garage, or no car at all?
Wilson’s six prepaid garages with rates and height limits, the no-parking rule at both piers, and the train, ferry and taxi options.

Sydney Airport sits in Mascot. International flights use T1, and domestic use T2 and T3.
The times in the table are free-flow, with no traffic, from our own routing. Read them as a best case, not a promise.
Cruise lines print their own numbers, and they disagree. Royal Caribbean puts White Bay farther from the airport than the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
Holland America and our routing put it nearer.
We haven’t resolved that, so leave a buffer.
| Route | Distance and time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Airport to the Overseas Passenger Terminal, by road | 14.6 km (9.1 miles), about 20 minutes on our free-flow routing | Holland America says about 30 minutes. Royal Caribbean says about 16 km and 35 minutes. |
| Airport to White Bay, by road | 10.1 km (6.3 miles), about 14 minutes on our free-flow routing | Holland America says about 30 minutes and 10 miles. Royal Caribbean says about 19 km and 25 minutes, which makes White Bay the farther one. |
| Taxi, airport to the CBD | Fixed fare, standard taxi: A$60 (about US$40). Maxi, five or more passengers: A$80 (about US$55). | Transport for NSW trial from Nov 3, 2025. Whether Circular Quay or either terminal sits inside the fixed-fare zone: not confirmed. Holland America says about A$80 (about US$55) to the terminals. |
| Taxi, metered, to the Overseas Passenger Terminal | About A$43 (about US$30) by our arithmetic | Flagfall, then the per-kilometre rates on Transport for NSW’s page, over 14.6 km. Before tolls, the passenger levy and surcharges. |
| Airport Link train, then walk | About 13 minutes from the city, roughly every 10 minutes, 5 a.m. to midnight | Station access fee plus an Opal distance fare to Circular Quay. Total fare: not confirmed. Five to ten minutes on foot from Circular Quay to the terminal. |
| DART Express shuttle | Direct from T1 to The Rocks, among other stops | Price not read |
The train carries an extra fee.
Transport for NSW’s airport page lists a station access fee of A$18.61 (about US$13) an adult trip, and an older fares brochure shows A$17.92 (about US$13). We couldn’t settle the current figure, and 2026 Opal fares aren’t confirmed.
If you’re driving, Sydney keeps left, and the toll roads take no cash. You open an account or buy a pass within about two to three days, since NSW says 72 hours and Linkt says two.
The Harbour Bridge and Tunnel toll applies southbound only: from July 1, 2026 it’s A$4.55 (about US$3) at weekday peaks, A$3.41 (about US$2) shoulder and A$2.85 (about US$2) off-peak. The Eastern Distributor is A$10.59 (about US$7) northbound from October 1, 2026, per Linkt.
To reach White Bay on a cruise day, use James Craig Road and The Crescent. The Port Authority says there’s no vehicle access through Robert Street or Grafton Street, so ignore a GPS that suggests them.
We found no rental desk at either terminal. If a car is still on your list, the cruise-port rental page, the airport-to-port page and should you rent at all do the sums.
Dollar figures use the European Central Bank reference rates of Oct 6, 2026 (about 70 US cents to the Australian dollar); your card's rate will differ.
Sources: Transport for NSW, Sydney Airport, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Linkt, read October 6, 2026 — the metered figure is our arithmetic on Transport for NSW’s tariff page, and distances are free-flow routing, not a quote.
Forms to sort before you fly
The ETA. Viking’s visa page says US citizens apply through the Australian ETA app — and the Australian Embassy says the app carries a service fee of A$20 (about US$14) with no visa application charge.
We couldn’t read the Home Affairs page for US passports — so we can’t say whether a cruise sailing changes the rule. Passport validity rules weren’t in anything we read.
The passenger card. The paper Incoming Passenger Card is still the default for now.
On July 13, 2026 Home Affairs announced a digital Australia Travel Declaration, to roll out to every international airport and seaport over 12 to 18 months, with Sydney in a pilot through the end of 2026. Whether it reaches a cruise arrival hasn’t been published.
Biosecurity. The Agriculture department’s shore-excursion leaflet says to present all bags for inspection and not bring food ashore, and that onboard catering must stay onboard.
That’s the excursion rule, not the embarkation-day one. We couldn’t read those.
Money, cards and SIMs we didn’t source for this page, so we’re not guessing.
Read the Agriculture department’s cruise page before you pack snacks — and get your cruise line to confirm the ETA before you fly.

One night near the quay, and what to do with the gap
Where to sleep. We read 28 hotels for the night before a Sydney cruise. None publishes a cruise shuttle, luggage forwarding to the ship or a cruise package, and only The Russell names the terminal.
Three near Circular Quay give walk times.
| Hotel | Where | What its own page says |
|---|---|---|
| The Russell Boutique Hotel | George Street, The Rocks | A five-minute walk to Circular Quay’s stations and to the Overseas Passenger Cruise Terminal. Private shuttles on request, not stated as cruise-specific. |
| Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour | Macquarie Street | Per Accor, Circular Quay is 400 m away, a one-minute walk. It names the quay, not the terminal. |
| The Sebel Quay West Suites Sydney | Gloucester Street, The Rocks | Per Accor, Circular Quay is 800 m away, an eight-minute walk. It names the quay, not the terminal. |
We didn’t research hotels near White Bay, in Balmain or Pyrmont. If that’s your pier, ask us.
If you want a grander night, there’s the splurge list. Flying in?
Sydney Airport to the ship covers the airport run.
If you’ve got hours to spare, the Overseas Passenger Terminal is the simpler pier. The Port Authority says Bounce offers storage nearby, and Circular Quay is right there.
What to do with them is on our Sydney port page and in the shore excursion guide.
White Bay has no storage at or next to the terminal, and we couldn’t confirm a transit link. Treat it as a place to board, not a place to wander.
Hotel details come from each hotel’s own site or its brand site, read October 6, 2026.

Give us the line and the terminal. We’ll say what holds up.
Tell us the ship, the terminal on your boarding document and how you’re arriving, and we’ll say what’s confirmed and what isn’t.
We check each answer against the line’s or hotel’s own page and date it.
Quick answers before you pack
Which terminal will my Sydney cruise use?
Your boarding document says. Sydney has two, the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay West and White Bay Cruise Terminal on James Craig Road in Rozelle.
Don’t guess from the cruise line. The Port Authority of NSW schedule we read on October 6, 2026 lists Carnival Adventure at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on October 8 and at White Bay on October 12.
Other lines’ pairings aren’t confirmed.
Can I park at the Sydney cruise terminal?
No. The Port Authority says there is no parking at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on cruise ship days, and White Bay has no long-term parking, only a 15-minute short-stay lot and a two-minute drop-off zone.
Wilson Parking sells prepaid cruise parking at six garages nearby, from A$20 (about US$14) to A$51 (about US$35) a day on the page we read on October 6, 2026. The parking page has the table.
What time do I arrive, and when does bag drop close?
Bag drop opens at about 9 a.m. at both terminals. It closes about 90 minutes before departure at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and one hour before at White Bay, per the Port Authority’s own pages.
The Port Authority also says to arrive at least an hour before departure. Your cruise line sets the check-in window that counts — so use the time on your boarding document.
Do Americans need a visa or an ETA for Australia?
Viking’s visa page says US citizens apply through the Australian ETA app. The Australian Embassy’s page says the app carries a service fee of A$20 (about US$14), with no visa application charge.
We couldn’t read the Home Affairs page for US passports, so whether your own sailing needs one is not confirmed. Check with your cruise line and Home Affairs before you book flights.
How do I get from Sydney Airport to the ship?
By road it’s about 9 miles (14.6 km) to the Overseas Passenger Terminal and about 6 miles (10.1 km) to White Bay on our free-flow routing — with no traffic. Cruise lines print longer times.
Taxi, train and shuttle all work for the Overseas Passenger Terminal. For White Bay we confirmed a taxi rank and staff-directed coach pick-ups, nothing more.
Fares and the train’s access fee are in the Mascot section above.
