A car can reach both piers. Nothing at either will hold it, and for most cruisers that settles the question.
The Overseas Passenger Terminal sits at the corner of Argyle and George Streets, Circular Quay West, The Rocks NSW 2000. White Bay is at James Craig Road, Rozelle NSW 2039.
Your cruise line’s boarding document says which one you sail from, and the Port Authority’s schedule can change.
No line owns a pier here. The October schedule has Carnival Adventure at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on Oct 8 and at White Bay on Oct 12, so read your own paperwork before you plan a drop-off, not a forum post.
At the Overseas Passenger Terminal the Port Authority says there’s no parking on cruise ship days. Drop-off is on the lower roadway at Circular Quay West, two minutes at most.
Royal Caribbean’s page says three, so plan on the shorter limit.
White Bay is fussier about the road. On cruise days it takes vehicles only along James Craig Road and The Crescent, not Robert Street or Grafton Street — so a sat-nav that offers Robert Street is steering you wrong.
The drop-off zone near the entrance is two minutes and the short-stay car park fifteen.
There’s no long-term parking and no luggage storage.
From the airport, our routing puts the Overseas Passenger Terminal 9.1 miles (14.6 km) away, 20 minutes on empty roads, and White Bay 6.3 miles (10.1 km), 14 minutes. Royal Caribbean and Holland America print other distances and times, so treat ours as a floor, not a forecast.
So a car can bring you to either pier — but it can’t wait there, and it has to be gone within two minutes. Where it goes next is the rest of this page, and the answer is sometimes nowhere.
