Five ways into this guide
Dover's road signs are written for ferry traffic, not for anyone boarding a cruise. Start from whatever you're unsure of — each card goes straight to it.
Who actually starts here
Holland America, Carnival, Saga and HX begin sailings at Dover. Viking only calls.
Jump to lines →From Iceland to the Arctic
Iceland and the British Isles, Iberia, the Canaries, the Baltic, or one-way to Svalbard.
Jump to routes →Western Docks, not the ferry port
CT1 and CT2 share one postcode, CT17 9DQ — and WD4 is for visiting ships only.
Jump to terminals →Parking, compared
An on-port valet that quotes on request, and park-and-ride yards off the port.
See parking →St Pancras, Heathrow, the M20
The train takes 1h03 at best. The last stretch from the station is the awkward part.
Jump to getting here →In brief
Dover is a ferry port that also runs a cruise business, and the two don't share a front door.
Europe's busiest ferry traffic uses the Eastern Docks. Cruise ships use the Western Docks, postcode CT17 9DQ.
The trap is that the road signs say "Port of Dover" and mean the ferries. Even the port's own cruise "How to get here" page ends at the Eastern Docks roundabout, written for ferry traffic, not for you.
Carnival and Holland America sell these sailings as "London." With St Pancras as little as 1h03 away by train, that label is fairer here than at most ports — though Viking's "London" means Greenwich, and Viking only calls at Dover.
The list of lines that actually start cruises here is short.
On the sources we checked for 2026, it's Holland America, Carnival, Saga and HX, whose MS Fram runs one-way to Svalbard.
Around them, the port forecasts 115 calls and about 200,000 guests from 22 lines this year — a busy calling port, with Ponant, Seabourn, Silversea and Scenic among the names. For anyone beyond those four, the port doesn't say who boards here and who only visits.
2026 also marks 30 years since Dover's first cruise terminal opened.
What the port can't fix for you: there's no food, cash machine or left luggage in either terminal, Uber doesn't operate in Dover, and in summer the M20 may be running Operation Brock. Plan the day around those gaps, not around the terminal building.
Cruise lines sailing from here
Plenty of ships call at Dover; far fewer lines start a cruise here that we could confirm. The block below separates the two — dated, because the starters change season to season.
Holland America Line brings Nieuw Statendam back to Dover as a homeport in 2026. It runs round-trip Canary Islands sailings from Dover on 17 Apr and 2 Oct, plus Baltic, Scandinavia and Iceland voyages with round-trip options.
Carnival Cruise Line sells the port as "London (Dover)." Carnival Legend's 2026 European season ran from 7 Jun to late Aug, per trade press, before the ship repositioned to Civitavecchia — so for a 2026 date, that season is over.
Carnival's own departure-port page still names Carnival Miracle and Carnival Sunshine. It looks stale, so trust your booking over that page.
Saga Cruises sails Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure from Dover, with a searchable list running from 2026 to 2029 on its own site.
HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) takes MS Fram one-way from Dover to Longyearbyen in Svalbard, 17 days up Norway's coast, then flies you on to Oslo. HX's page doesn't print the date; Cruise Hive puts the departure on the 8 May 2026 four-ship day.
Viking is a caller here, not a homeport line. Its "London" sailings board at Greenwich, and Dover appears as Day 3.
Fred. Olsen isn't a Dover line in 2026 — its UK departures are Southampton, Liverpool, Rosyth and Newcastle.
The port says 22 lines are coming in 2026, and its season release names about a dozen, from Celebrity, Ponant and HX to AIDA, TUI, Seabourn, Silversea, Scenic and Princess. Its late-2026 schedule adds Phoenix Reisen and Costa.
We haven't found the other names on the port's list, so we're not padding it out. Treat anyone outside the first four as a caller unless your line's own page says you board at Dover.
Sources: Holland America's 2026 Europe release, carnival.com, Saga's "Cruises From Dover" page, HX's itinerary page, and the Port of Dover's schedule and 27 Mar 2026 release, checked September 23, 2026. Carnival's season dates come from trade press (Cruise Industry News, June and September 2026) — confirm the embarkation port printed on your own booking.
Each cell comes from the line’s own page or the Port of Dover schedule, checked September 23, 2026. “Not published” means we looked and it wasn’t there.
Where you can go
From Dover, sailings head north-west to the British Isles and Iceland, south to Iberia and the Canaries, east into the Baltic, or up Norway's coast to the Arctic.
A sample of named voyages. Every card below comes from a specific 2026 itinerary by Carnival, Holland America or HX — so check your own sailing rather than the pattern.

Where Dover's turnaround lines sail
Grouped by the line whose own itinerary names the stop. Saga's Dover range covers the Norwegian fjords, the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Baltic, Iceland and the Mediterranean, from 4 to 16+ nights — broad enough that it isn't broken into ports here.

Missing from the cards: Carnival Legend's 12-day Scandinavia & Baltic and 9-day Northern Europe sailings, whose ports we didn't extract. Check that itinerary page directly, not Holland America's Baltic list, before assuming the stops match.
CT1, CT2 and WD4 — all at the Western Docks
Both embarkation terminals sit at the Western Docks and share one postcode, CT17 9DQ.
The port doesn't publish a fixed line-to-terminal list. It assigns CT1 or CT2 per call on its cruise schedule, so check that page for your date, not a friend's sailing from last year.
CT1 is the old Dover Marine railway station, built in 1914 and converted with its station architecture intact. A new boarding facility there is due in 2027 — expect today's photos and descriptions of CT1 to date quickly.
CT2 was purpose-built in 2000 and takes the longest ships, up to 350 m. Its first-floor departure lounge looks out over the harbour, the White Cliffs and Dover Castle.
WD4, at Marina Curve, is a port-of-call berth only. If your ship shows there on the schedule, you're visiting Dover, not starting from it.
Every berth has passenger boarding bridges — nobody tenders at Dover.
For the drop-off, the port gives what3words rather than coordinates: ///goodbye.songbirds.surfacing for CT1 and CT2, and ///this.overhear.guards for WD4.
| Berth | Max ship length | Indoor area | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CT1 — CT17 9DQ | 251 m | 1,192 m² | Former Dover Marine station (1914); new boarding facility due 2027 |
| CT2 — CT17 9DQ | 350 m | 1,992 m² | Purpose-built 2000; first-floor lounge with harbour views |
| WD4 — Marina Curve, CT17 9FQ | 320 m | Not published | Port of call only; guests walk along the marina curve to the seafront |
What the terminals don't have: food or drink outlets, an ATM, a bureau de change, left luggage or EV charging. The port's FAQ says so plainly — there are water dispensers, WiFi, lifts and baggage handlers.
Eat before you arrive, and carry whatever cash you want for the first port.
Whoever drops you off can't wait inside the port, because there are no waiting areas. Plan a quick hand-off at the kerb.
The port publishes no check-in windows. Its schedule shows ships alongside from 06:00–07:00 and sailing around 17:00–18:00; your arrival slot comes from your line's online check-in, not from the terminal.
Terminal details from the port's own facilities and cruise-trade pages. Stable — except CT1, which changes in 2027.
Parking, in short
CPS (Cruise and Passenger Services) runs the only parking the port names: a valet where staff take your car at the terminal and park it undercover on site.
CPS publishes no Dover tariff — the only price is whatever its quote form returns for your dates. Quote only
Off the port, Relyon's own page says £9 a day with a £30 minimum, and its door-to-door shuttle runs round the clock.
Port Parking, up at Western Heights, is listed by brokers from £40.25 a week. Its shuttle runs 07:00–18:00 only — worth weighing against an early walk-off.
Sailing Saga? Your fare includes a nationwide return chauffeur, or terminal parking if you select it.

There are two sensible ways in: the high-speed train from St Pancras, or the M20 by car. The train's weak point is the last 2.5 km; the road's is Kent's freight queues.
| Route | Time | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Train — London St Pancras to Dover Priory | 1h03 fastest, about 1h07 average | About 42 direct trains a day; first 06:37 Mon–Sat (08:37 Sun), last 23:37 (22:37 Sun). Anytime Day Single from £48.60; Railcards save 1/3. |
| Train — London Charing Cross to Dover Priory | About 1h52 | Slower, about 16 direct trains a day, from £28.90. |
| Dover Priory to the terminal | 30–40 min on foot (port) | 2.5 km per Holland America. Taxi rank at the station; no published luggage shuttle for embarking passengers. |
| Car | — | Satnav CT17 9DQ. From London, M20 becoming the A20 at Folkestone; from the north, M2 becoming the A2 at Faversham. |
| Coach — National Express 007 | About 3.5 h | Victoria Coach Station to Pencester Road in town, then a taxi. |
| Heathrow | 95 min drive (port) | Taxi about £225, about 2.5 h, per Holland America. |
| Gatwick | 76 min drive (port) | Taxi about £275, about 1.5 h, per Holland America. |
The last 2.5 km: Dover Priory isn't beside the ships. Take a taxi from the station rank, and don't count on an app — Holland America says Uber isn't available in Dover and taxis are limited in the morning.
The YMS Travel shuttle you may see advertised is a hop-on, hop-off loop for port-of-call days, not a luggage run from the station.
By road: follow Western Docks, not the ferry signs. The port's route text was written for ferries and finishes at the Eastern Docks roundabout.
Operation Brock: in summer 2026 the M20 ran a coastbound contraflow between J8 and J9 from 13 Jul to 24 Aug, with a reduced speed limit and Dover-bound lorries held at J8. Cars crossed over to the London-bound carriageway.
On the A20 into Dover, Dover TAP keeps freight in the left lane while cars use the other. Kent Police can switch either scheme on at short notice when cross-Channel traffic is disrupted — so allow extra time and carry food and water, whatever the month.
Kent County Council has £20m for an Eastern Docks access project it says could cut Brock and TAP use by up to 80%. No completion date is given, so don't plan around it yet.
Flying in: the port quotes 76 minutes' drive from Gatwick, 95 from Heathrow and 110 from Stansted. Holland America's taxi fares run about £275 from Gatwick and about £225 from Heathrow — its figures as published, the longer ride the cheaper one.
There's no direct airport rail link — by train you go through London to St Pancras.
Coach: National Express 007 takes about 3.5 h from Victoria, with departures such as 09:30, 12:30 and 16:30 on some days. It stops in town, not at the terminal.
The port quotes 95 minutes to London by coach. That doesn't match the National Express timetable, so we're going with the operator.
Holland America runs its own transfer from Victoria Coach Station at about 10:30 am; the price isn't on the page we checked.
Staying over: the port's pre-stay list names Dover Marina Hotel, Holiday Inn Dover, Premier Inn and Travelodge, with no distances. The seafront and Marina are the walkable side toward the Western Docks — hotels on the edge of town mean a taxi.
The night before, ranked: we’ve scored fourteen hotels for the night before a Dover cruise, from the seafront to Canterbury and Ashford, on what each one publishes. Four that come up most:
| Hotel | Where | One thing to know |
|---|---|---|
| Dover Marina Hotel & Spa | Waterloo Crescent, seafront | About 1.0 mile of road to CT1 and CT2 by our routing; Hilton’s 0.50 miles is to the ferry terminal. |
| Travelodge Dover | St James Street, town centre | Air-conditioned rooms and a lift, per Travelodge — not a given in Britain. |
| Holiday Inn Dover | Whitfield, off the A2 | The former Ramada; free on-site parking around the clock, per the hotel. |
| Holiday Inn Express Canterbury | Upper Harbledown, on the A2 | “Breakfast is free with your stay,” per IHG — about 21 road miles from the ship. |
For a nicer night, see the splurge list. Flying in? Heathrow or Gatwick to the ship compares the train, the taxis and Carnival’s transfer.

Dover FAQ
Which cruise lines start their cruises in Dover?
On the sources we checked for 2026: Holland America (Nieuw Statendam), Carnival (Carnival Legend, sold as “London (Dover)”), Saga (Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure) and HX, whose MS Fram sails one-way to Svalbard. Viking only calls — its “London” departures board at Greenwich.
Is the Dover cruise terminal the same as the ferry terminal?
No. Ferries use the Eastern Docks, and cruise terminals CT1 and CT2 are at the Western Docks, CT17 9DQ. Set the satnav to that postcode, not “Port of Dover,” and don’t follow the ferry signs.
Which terminal does my Dover cruise leave from?
The port assigns CT1 or CT2 per call on its cruise schedule, with no fixed line-to-terminal list, and both share the postcode CT17 9DQ. WD4 at Marina Curve handles port-of-call visits only, so you won’t embark there.
How long is the train from London to Dover?
Southeastern’s high-speed service from St Pancras to Dover Priory takes 1h03 at fastest and about 1h07 on average, with about 42 direct trains a day. From Charing Cross it’s about 1h52.
How do I get from Dover Priory station to the cruise terminal?
Take a taxi from the rank at the station, or walk — the port puts it at 30–40 minutes. There’s no published luggage shuttle for embarking passengers, and Holland America says Uber isn’t available in Dover.
Is there food or a café in the Dover cruise terminal?
No. The port says neither terminal has anywhere to buy food or drink, and there’s no ATM or bureau de change either. There are water dispensers, so eat before you arrive.
Can I leave luggage at the Dover terminal before or after my cruise?
No. Neither terminal has a left-luggage facility, before or after a cruise.
How far is Dover from Heathrow and Gatwick?
The port quotes about 95 minutes’ drive from Heathrow and 76–78 minutes from Gatwick. Holland America quotes taxis at about £225 from Heathrow and about £275 from Gatwick.
Will Operation Brock affect my drive to a Dover cruise?
It can. In summer 2026 Brock ran from 13 Jul to 24 Aug as an M20 contraflow between J8 and J9 with a reduced speed limit, and it can return at short notice during cross-Channel disruption. Allow extra time and check Kent Prepared before you set off.
Can someone drop me off at the Dover cruise terminal?
Yes, but there are no waiting areas within the port, so the person dropping you off has to leave once you’re out.
