Le Havre

The itinerary calls it Le Havre, and may add Paris in brackets. You berth at the new Pointe de Floride terminals, 2.5 km from the city centre and the station — and Paris Saint-Lazare is 2h04 beyond that on the fastest train. Le Havre’s own UNESCO-listed centre sits at the near end of those 2.5 km, and Honfleur is about 30 minutes past it by bus. Price the far end before you buy it.

Le Havre in brief

Le Havre is usually sold as a way to get somewhere else — Paris, most often, printed in brackets after the port’s own name.

Start with where the ship actually stops.

Every sea-cruise berth is at Pointe de Floride, on the south side of the port. The tourist office puts the terminal 2.5 km from the city centre and the train station.

CruiseMapper makes it 2.3 km and a 20 to 30 minute walk. The two agree on distance — neither mentions that the route is port roads, which is the part you feel.

The terminals are new, and only partly open.

A cruise complex built into renovated warehouses entered service on 10 April 2026, when AIDAsol made the first call.

The first double call followed on 16 April 2026, with Nieuw Statendam and Majestic Princess alongside together.

Terminals 2 and 3 — quai Pierre Callet and quai Joannès Couvert — were the two in service on 27 April 2026, per Tendance Ouest.

Terminal 1, on quai Roger Meunier, is the one the sources disagree about.

HAROPA PORT’s own works page reinforces its bollards from 100 t to 150 t so the quay can take ships up to 330 m, with the works targeted for September 2026.

Tendance Ouest reported on 27 April 2026 that T1’s opening had moved from spring to autumn. Seatrade Cruise, on 1 May 2026, described the “Verrazzano” terminal as up and running.

We could not confirm T1’s status as of 23 September 2026.

So this page does not say which terminal your ship will use.

It matters for one practical reason. The shuttles and the Bee Le Havre pickup leave from whichever terminal you are at.

Inside, the tourist office lists an information point, free WiFi, car hire, a shop, a taxi rank and a shuttle stop. The building opens only on call days.

It is a turnaround port too. GIP figures count 61,931 passengers embarking or disembarking here in 2025 — so some mornings you share the terminal with luggage and coaches.

Now the part the itinerary compresses.

SNCF Connect gives the fastest train to Paris Saint-Lazare as 2h04 and the average as 2h18, with 16 a day and fares from €17 in limited quantity.

Add the 2.5 km to the station and the metro at the Paris end. The round trip comes to about 4.5 to 5 hours of travel.

On a typical 8am to 6pm call, that leaves roughly 3 to 4 hours in Paris.

The coach is slower, not faster. Shore Excursions Group says Paris is typically around a 3-hour drive each way — 6 hours on the bus for 3 to 4 in the city.

It can be done.

The margin is thin, though, and a late regional train won’t hold up the gangway.

Closer in, the arithmetic turns around.

Le Havre’s centre was rebuilt from 1945 to 1964 by Auguste Perret’s team after wartime bombing. UNESCO inscribed all 133 ha of it in 2005.

Walking it costs nothing once you are there.

Honfleur is about 30 minutes on Nomad bus 122, and Étretat’s cliffs are on bus 509 — both from the Gare Routière beside the train station.

River cruise ships are a separate case. They use Quai de Marseille or Quai des Antilles, about 15 minutes’ walk from the centre.

Which of those days deserves your money — and when a ship tour pays its way — is the argument our Le Havre shore excursion guide makes.

On foot from the ship

2.5 km · Port Roads
Terminal to the city centre and station

The tourist office’s figure for Pointe de Floride. CruiseMapper reports 2.3 km and 20 to 30 minutes on foot — walkable, past working docks, not along a seafront. Most people ride it.

Shuttle · Price Unpublished
Your cruise line’s bus into town

The tourist office confirms shuttles between the terminal and the centre, and names no operator, price or frequency. whatsinport reports €10 return for the day and €19.95 on Princess — undated, so check your own line’s figure. Reported drop-offs are Le Volcan and the Espace Coty shopping centre.

Taxi Rank · At The Terminal
The quickest way to the station

The rank is official; the fare is published nowhere official. whatsinport reports €8 to the centre and €10 to the station, about 10 minutes. normandielovers.fr, a travel site updated May 2026, says about 10 euros.

Free · 10:00 Departure
Bee Le Havre’s coach to Place Perret

Meet at 09:45 in front of the terminal guardhouse; the coach leaves at 10:00 and takes 20 minutes. It carries only people who pre-booked a Bee Le Havre tour — a courtesy for customers, not a public shuttle.

Beside The Station
Gare Routière — buses 122 and 509

Nomad’s regional coaches to Honfleur and Étretat leave from the bus station next to Le Havre’s train station. Reach the station and you have reached every exit the day offers — Paris, Honfleur and the cliffs.

A 1-hour single is €1.80 and a 24-hour ticket €4.50 on LiA’s own fare page. Validate at every boarding, transfers included. We could not confirm that any line stops at the cruise terminal.

Everything from Place Perret to the seafront is Perret’s rebuilt centre, free to walk once you have covered the 2.5 km in. Honfleur, Étretat and Deauville are the coast’s answer to Paris — a bus ride away, not a train and a metro.

Le Havre turns up on Southampton round trips — Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 called on 8 June 2026 during a 5-night Southampton–Zeebrugge–Le Havre–Cherbourg sailing, and we could not verify how often P&O’s short breaks include it, so we claim no pattern. Embarkation is in our Southampton cruise port guide, and the neighbouring calls in our Zeebrugge and Cherbourg port guides.

Practical notes

Current as of September 23, 2026 Review periodically

Money and cards.

The euro. MuMa takes cash up to €100, cards and cheques, and Nomad’s regional buses sell tickets on board for cash or card.

We did not verify card acceptance across the town, so carry some cash — a precaution, not a known problem.

Entry, and the rule that mostly skips round-trip passengers.

The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026.

ABTA, the UK travel trade body, says passengers on a cruise that leaves from and returns to the same UK port do not go through it, and that day trips on the cruise are exempt.

If you joined the ship in Europe, you registered at your first Schengen border — somewhere earlier, not here.

ETIAS is not running and has no confirmed start date. ABTA gives its price as €20 when it launches.

The Paris train, in detail.

The service is TER Normandie, branded Nomad Train, into Paris Saint-Lazare. SNCF Connect lists the first departure at 05:23 and the last at 20:09.

Coming back, the fastest run is 2h00 and the average 2h11, with 15 trains a day and the last at 20:40.

TER Normandie’s own page quotes 2h05 — and only outside periods of engineering works.

Fares start at €17 for Prem’s tickets, sold in limited quantity. Neither SNCF Connect nor TER Normandie printed a walk-up fare on the pages we read, so we are not guessing one.

SNCF Connect and Trainline publish different rail distances for the route. We print journey times instead.

The regional buses.

Bus 122 is a Le Havre–Honfleur–Caen express. Its timetable, valid from 1 September 2026 to 3 July 2027, runs 4 to 5 round trips a day, and 5 to 6 from May to October.

Its fare to Honfleur is zonal and unprinted on every page we read. Nomad publishes Caen–Le Havre at €10 and Caen–Honfleur at €7.50, so the Le Havre–Honfleur leg cannot top €10.

Bus 509 runs to Étretat daily except 1 May, on a timetable that changed on 1 September 2026.

Weekday and weekend times differ and few run late in the afternoon — take the PDF from Nomad’s own line page, not a time from us.

Nomad does not print the 509 fare either. Pay on board by cash or card, or through the Atoumod app.

Opening hours that decide a morning.

MuMa is closed on Mondays and public holidays. Otherwise it opens 11:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Friday, and 11:00 to 19:00 at weekends.

St Joseph’s Church opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00, except during services.

The Perret show flat needs a booking, and a visit takes 19 people at most.

What we did not source.

Tipping norms, weather and daylight hours: we consulted no official source, so there are no figures for them here.

Calls run through the year — 137 sea calls in 2025 — and the authority publishes annual totals, not a month-by-month pattern.

The port in numbers.

Le Havre Seine Métropole counts 137 sea calls and 235 river calls in 2025, with 465,000 passengers across both and 138,000 crew.

Its 2026 forecast is 138 sea calls, nearly 200 river calls and 428,000 passengers.

The city targets 600,000 passengers by 2030, with capacity for 13,500 a day across three terminals — a design figure, not this season’s reality while T1 is unconfirmed.

Who runs what.

HAROPA PORT is the port authority and owns the quay works. Cruise welcome and promotion sit with GIP Le Havre Croisières, under Le Havre Seine Métropole.

Le Havre FAQ

Where do cruise ships dock in Le Havre?

At Pointe de Floride, on the south side of the port, in a new cruise complex that entered service on 10 April 2026. Terminals 2 and 3, on quai Pierre Callet and quai Joannès Couvert, were the two in service on 27 April 2026.

Terminal 1, on quai Roger Meunier, is unconfirmed as of this review. Tendance Ouest reported its opening postponed to autumn 2026; Seatrade Cruise described it as up and running on 1 May 2026.

River cruise ships use a different quay — Quai de Marseille or Quai des Antilles, about 15 minutes’ walk from the centre.

Can I walk from the Le Havre cruise terminal into town?

Yes, though few people enjoy it. The tourist office puts the terminal 2.5 km from the centre and the station; CruiseMapper reports 2.3 km and 20 to 30 minutes.

The route is port roads, not a promenade. The shuttle or a taxi saves your legs for the centre.

Is there a free shuttle from the Le Havre cruise terminal?

Not a public one we could confirm. The tourist office says shuttles run between the terminal and the centre, and publishes no operator, price or frequency — they appear to be arranged by each cruise line.

whatsinport reports €10 return for the day in general and €19.95 on Princess; a 2018 forum thread reported €10 to €30 depending on the line. Bee Le Havre runs a free 10:00 coach to Place Perret, but only for people who booked one of its tours.

How much is a taxi from the cruise terminal?

Nobody official publishes a fare. There is an official taxi rank at the terminal.

whatsinport reports €8 to the town centre and €10 to the station, about 10 minutes. normandielovers.fr, updated May 2026, says about 10 euros — two reports that agree, with no official fare behind either.

How long is the train from Le Havre to Paris?

The fastest train to Paris Saint-Lazare takes 2h04 and the average 2h18, on SNCF Connect, with 16 trains a day between 05:23 and 20:09. Fares start at €17 for Prem’s tickets in limited quantity.

Coming back, the fastest is 2h00 and the average 2h11. The station is 2.5 km from the cruise terminal, so add that transfer at both ends.

Is a day in Paris realistic from Le Havre?

On a long call, and if you accept the risk. By train the round trip is about 4.5 to 5 hours of travel, which leaves roughly 3 to 4 hours in Paris on a typical 8am to 6pm call.

By coach, Shore Excursions Group says Paris is typically around a 3-hour drive each way. Nobody holds the ship for a late TER — the full ship-or-train argument is in our Le Havre shore excursion guide.

How do I get from Le Havre to Honfleur?

Nomad bus 122 from the Gare Routière beside the train station, about 30 minutes to Honfleur’s bus station. It runs 4 to 5 round trips a day, and 5 to 6 from May to October.

The Le Havre–Honfleur fare is zonal and unpublished on the pages we read. Nomad’s whole-line Caen–Le Havre fare is €10, so that is the ceiling.

How do I get to Étretat from Le Havre?

Nomad bus 509, from the Gare Routière to Étretat Mairie. It runs daily except 1 May, with only a few departures and a timetable that changed on 1 September 2026.

Take your times from Nomad’s own September 2026 PDF, and choose your return bus before you leave.

Why is Le Havre a UNESCO World Heritage Site?

Its centre was rebuilt from 1945 to 1964 by Auguste Perret’s team after wartime bombing. UNESCO inscribed it in 2005 as an outstanding post-war example of urban planning and architecture, covering 133 ha.

The listing is the city plan itself, not one monument. St Joseph’s Church, with its 107 m lantern tower and 12,768 pieces of coloured glass, is the building to go inside.

How much is MuMa and when is it open?

€10 full and €6 reduced from April to September, €7 and €5 the rest of the year. Under-26s are free, and so is everyone on the first Saturday of the month.

It opens 11:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Friday and 11:00 to 19:00 at weekends. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays.

Can I see the D-Day beaches from Le Havre?

Yes, as a full day. Shore Excursions Group’s D-Day tour from Le Havre runs 10 hours, and Overlord Tour’s cruise-port group tour runs 08:00 to 17:00 at €170 per person.

The Overlord tour showed as sold out when we checked on 23 September 2026. Omaha Beach is reported at about a 2-hour drive — normandielovers.fr’s estimate, with no official figure to check it against.

Do cruise passengers go through the EU Entry/Exit System in Le Havre?

Usually not, if you are on a round trip from the UK. ABTA says passengers on a cruise that leaves from and returns to the same UK port do not go through EES, and day trips on the cruise are exempt.

If you joined the ship in Europe, you registered at your first Schengen border. ETIAS is not yet running and has no confirmed start date.
