Six ways into this guide
A port with five terminals and a dozen-plus lines makes for a long page. Most people need one corner of it — start from yours.
Cruise lines here now
P&O Cruises and Cunard lead a dozen-plus lines — checked line by line, since the port's own list isn't a roster.
Jump to lines →Where you can go
Short breaks to Bruges and Amsterdam, a week in the fjords, or a crossing to New York.
Jump to destinations →Five terminals, two docks
Eastern and Western Docks use different gates — and two postcodes in circulation conflict with ABP's own.
Jump to terminals →Parking, by cruise line
Your line picks your in-port car park, and neither operator publishes a price list.
See parking →From London and the airports
Direct trains from Waterloo, coaches from Heathrow, and a local airport 20 minutes away.
Jump to getting here →Check-in, bags, getting off
Arrive at your slot, not hours before it — and don't count on left luggage.
Jump to embarkation day →In brief
Southampton is a port built for volume. Associated British Ports (ABP), which owns and runs it, counted over 3 million cruise passengers in 2025 — the second year running above that mark.
2025 also brought ABP's highest-ever number of cruise calls and a record number of days with all five terminals in use at once. ABP gives no exact call total; its cruise page says the port welcomes 'more than 500 cruise ship calls annually'.
Those five terminals sit in two separate dock estates. QEII and Ocean are in the Eastern Docks, through Dock Gate 4; City, Horizon and Mayflower are in the Western Docks, through Gates 8, 10 or 20.
Same city, different drive. Getting from one estate to the other means going back out through Southampton.
The other thing that's only true here: in-port parking is assigned by your cruise line, not your terminal. ABParking self-park serves one group of lines and CPS valet serves another, and the tourist board's split doesn't let you choose.
The lines sell Southampton as the way to cruise without flying. Cunard calls it its 'busiest departure port'; P&O Cruises markets its sailings here with 'No flights. No airport queues.'
Coming from abroad, it's around 1 hour 30 minutes by direct train from London Waterloo — close, provided the taxi at the end is pointed at the right terminal.
Cruise lines sailing from here
With this many lines, even the port's own list misses some. We checked each one against its own pages instead, and dated the result.
These lines publish Southampton programmes on their own sites: P&O Cruises, Cunard (Queen Anne, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria), Princess Cruises (Sky Princess and Majestic Princess, per a May 2024 Princess release), Royal Caribbean (Liberty of the Seas in summer 2026; its Southampton page now sells Freedom of the Seas for summer 2027) and Celebrity Cruises (Celebrity Apex, 8 May-7 Oct 2026).
So do MSC Cruises (MSC Virtuosa for summer 2026, MSC Preziosa for winter 2026/27), Norwegian Cruise Line (Norwegian Sun, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Star, May-November 2026), Disney Cruise Line (3-, 4- and 7-night sailings) and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
P&O's page doesn't list its ships, and Disney's ship for these sailings shows up only in an itinerary address we couldn't open — so neither is named here.
Regent Seven Seas and Silversea embark here too, confirmed on their own voyage pages. Silversea's sailings are one-way — to Lisbon or Copenhagen, not back to Southampton.
Reported or listed, not confirmed — Oceania, AIDA and Holland America turnarounds come from a travel agent's round-up rather than the lines' own pages.
Azamara and 'Tui' appear on ABP's list without a Southampton embarkation we could confirm, and ABP doesn't say which TUI brand it means.
About ABP's own list: its cruise page names 13 operators it 'welcomes' — a welcome list, not a register of lines based here.
It also leaves out Celebrity, which homeports Celebrity Apex here in 2026. That's why the chips above are built line by line instead.
Sources: each line's own Southampton, itinerary or voyage page; ABP's cruise page for its list; cruiseline.co.uk, a travel agent (updated 13 Aug 2026), for the reported lines — checked September 23, 2026. Confirm your own line, ship and date before booking around this list.
Where you can go
Southampton's itineraries sort by length more than by direction. Short breaks of 2-5 nights cross the Channel and the North Sea; the northern runs head for Norway and the British Isles; longer trips go south for the sun or west to New York.
Typical from here, never promised. With this many lines and ships in play, the stops on any one sailing turn on the line, the ship and the season — so check your own itinerary before planning around a port below.

Where a Southampton sailing actually goes
Grouped by trip type, because that's how the lines sell them here. Cards link to our port and excursion guides where one exists; the rest are plain references.
Showing all 11
Short breaks
6The 2-5 night trips, mostly across the Channel — P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean, MSC and Disney all sell them.
Zeebrugge, for Bruges
Belgium
The best-confirmed short-break stop — P&O's short breaks, Cunard and Royal Caribbean's 3-night Bruges Getaway all name it.
Le Havre, for Paris
Normandy, France
Royal Caribbean has sold a 3-night Parisian Getaway via Le Havre — its page shows no date, so that sailing may be past.
Hamburg
Germany
A common short-break turn for P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Princess. We don't have a Hamburg port guide yet, so this card is a plain reference.
Cherbourg
Normandy, France
Reported on some 4-night trips by World of Cruising — we didn't confirm it on a line's own itinerary this pass.
Northern runs
2Norway and the British Isles, the northern trips most Southampton lines sell.
Norwegian fjords
Norway · typically 7 nights
Run by P&O, Cunard, Royal Caribbean on Liberty of the Seas, Princess, NCL, Celebrity and Disney, among others.
British Isles & Northern Europe
UK and Irish ports, Scandinavia, Iceland
Majestic Princess runs 11-14 nights here and Disney sells a 7-night British Isles; NCL, Regent, Silversea and Cunard sail it too.
South and west
3The longer voyages — sun without a flight, or the ocean crossing.
Canary Islands & Madeira
Spain and Portugal · about 12-14 nights
Sold by P&O, Cunard and Princess, whose 12-day roundtrip sits on its no-fly page.
Mediterranean & Iberia
Spain, Portugal, the Med · 8-31 nights
Princess runs up to 31 days; MSC, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, with an 8-night Spain & France, sail it as well.
Transatlantic & world voyages
New York and beyond
Cunard's Queen Mary 2 crosses to New York, and Cunard's Full World Voyage starts here; MSC runs Grand Voyages too.
Nothing matches that. Clear the filter to see all 11 again.
Not covered above: Southampton is also the start of one-way voyages that end somewhere else — Silversea's run to Copenhagen among them. Our Copenhagen port guide covers that end.
Five terminals, two dock estates, no published line list
ABP runs all five terminals, and it publishes no table of which line uses which. It allocates berths 'often up to two years ahead', and lines do move — Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines says as much on its own Southampton page.
So the terminal on your e-ticket is the one that counts, not the one you sailed from last time.
Where a line names its usual terminal itself, it's in the table and the picker below, attributed.
| Terminal | Berth · postcode | Gate | From Southampton Central on foot | Size (ABP 2022 brochure) | Line that names it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| QEII Eastern Docks | 38/39 · SO14 3GG | Dock Gate 4, then about 1 mile along Test Road | 2.5 miles, 45-50 min — taxi | 36 check-in desks, seating for 1,000 | None published |
| Ocean Eastern Docks | 46 (brochure: 46/47) · SO14 3QN | Dock Gate 4, about a 4-min walk | 1.5 miles, about 30 min — taxi | 40 check-in desks, seating for 1,000 | P&O Cruises |
| City Western Docks | 101 · SO15 1HJ | Dock Gate 10 (ABP's PDF says vehicles use Gate 8) | 0.6 miles, 15 min | 50 check-in desks, seating for 500 | Royal Caribbean (older-looking page) |
| Horizon Western Docks | 102 · SO15 1AW | Dock Gate 10 | 0.5 miles, 12 min | 52 check-in desks, seating for 1,000; shore power; £55 million, opened 2021 | MSC Cruises |
| Mayflower Western Docks | 106 · SO15 0GN | Dock Gate 20 recommended, Gate 10 as the alternative | 1.5 miles, 30 min — taxi | 36 check-in desks, seating for 700; shore power | P&O Cruises |
Berths and sizes from ABP's 2022 cruise brochure; postcodes, gates and walks from ABP's current passenger-directions PDFs on Southampton VTS. Review periodically
Two postcodes to double-check. Mayflower is SO15 0GN on ABP's current directions PDF. ABP's 2022 brochure and a 2021 Cunard page gave SO15 1HJ instead — which is City's postcode, a neighbouring terminal, not the same gate.
City is SO15 1HJ on ABP's PDF, its 2022 brochure and Royal Caribbean's page. Southampton Airport's cruise page gives SO15 1AJ; we'd go with ABP's.
Gates disagree too. ABP's City PDF sends vehicles through Dock Gate 8, while its City web page says Dock Gate 10 — follow the signs on the day and your line's own instructions.
Every terminal has a drop-off area, a short-stay car park and a taxi rank outside. Horizon and Mayflower have shore power.
Parking split from Visit Southampton; terminals and ships from each line's own Southampton page. 'Not published' means we looked and the line doesn't say — check your e-ticket.
Parking, in short
Your cruise line decides which in-port car park you use. Visit Southampton's split: ABParking, ABP's own self-park, for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL, MSC, Disney and Fred. Olsen; CPS valet for Cunard, P&O Cruises and Princess. ABP’s own cruise page adds Oceania, Regent Seven Seas and Silversea to ABParking’s list.
Both must be pre-booked, and neither publishes a price list — so the only official 7-day prices in Southampton are the council's city-centre multi-storeys, £39-£41 plus a taxi.
Cunard's CPS bookings close 35 days before sailing. Leave it later and you're looking at off-site operators, not the port. Stable

Most people arrive by train from London, by car down the M3 or M27, or by coach from Heathrow. Plan the last leg hardest — no public bus stops at a terminal.
| From | How | Time | Cost and catches |
|---|---|---|---|
| London Waterloo | Direct South Western Railway train to Southampton Central, then a taxi | Around 1 hour 30 minutes on average; the taxi is 5-10 minutes | Advance singles from £10.10 (seen 23 Sep 2026). Fastest train and trains per hour not verified. |
| Southampton Airport (SOU) | Taxi from the desk in the terminal | About 20 minutes; 4.7 miles to City, 5.2 miles to QEII | Taxis can use Dock Gates 4, 8 and 10 on cruise days |
| Southampton Airport, by rail | Train from Parkway, 99 steps from the terminal, to Southampton Central, then a taxi | 7 minutes, every 15 minutes from Platform 2 | Parkway to London Waterloo is 69 minutes, if you're staying in town first |
| Southampton Airport, by bus | Uni-Link U1 to the Dock Gate 4 stop on Platform Road | QEII is about a 20-minute walk from Gate 4 | Everyone must get off at Gate 4 and walk — it serves QEII and Ocean |
| Heathrow, by coach | National Express 032 to Southampton Coach Station, then a taxi | Fastest 1 hr 25 mins from T5; about 1 hr 40 from T2&3; up to 14 a day | From £17.40 one-way including a £1.50 booking fee, for travel 13 Jul-9 Nov 2026 |
| Heathrow, by coach and rail | RailAir RA2 coach to Woking, every 30 minutes, then SWR to Southampton Central | 25-40 min from T5 and 40-55 min from T2/3 to Woking | Train leg time and RailAir fare not verified |
| Gatwick | National Express coach to Southampton Coach Station; or Southern to Clapham Junction and SWR onward | Coaches arrive from about 10:40am; Southern runs 4 direct services an hour to Clapham Junction, around 25 mins | Coach time and fare not shown; a direct Gatwick train not verified |
| By car | M3 or M27; A33 West Quay Road for the Western Docks, A33 Platform Road for the Eastern Docks | From Heathrow or Gatwick not verified | Drop-off and short-stay at every terminal; short-stay tariff not published |
From South Western Railway, Southampton Airport, National Express and ABP's directions PDFs, seen 23 September 2026. Review periodically
From the station. Walking works for two terminals, not five. Horizon is about 0.5 miles (12 min) and City about 0.6 miles (15 min); Ocean and Mayflower are about 1.5 miles, and QEII is 2.5 miles — 45-50 minutes with luggage.
Taxi ranks are at both station exits — the north entrance on Blechynden Terrace and the south on Western Esplanade. The station has step-free access to all platforms and luggage trolleys, but no luggage storage.
Royal Caribbean's undated page puts the taxi from Central at about 15 minutes and 'around 8 British Pounds'. Treat that as a rough guide, not a fare.
Southern flagged lift refurbishment at Southampton Central affecting step-free access 'until late-August 2026' — worth checking it's finished if you need the lifts.
The free bus that isn't for you. ABP's terminal pages mention a 'free bus service between the station and Town Quay'. South Western Railway describes it as Red Funnel's shuttle, free with a ferry ticket — a ferry perk, not a cruise transfer.
By coach. Southampton Coach Station is on Harbour Parade (SO15 1BA), open 08:00-16:30.
From there it's 10-15 minutes on foot to City and Horizon, about 15 more for Mayflower, and 30-plus for Ocean or QEII — take a taxi for those.
By car. Set the sat-nav to the terminal postcode in the table above and follow the dock-gate signs.
For Mayflower, ABP recommends Dock Gate 20 from the M271/Redbridge Road, about a 2-mile drive through the docks, with Gate 10 as the fallback.
The night before. Visit Southampton groups hotels by area: the waterfront edge by the Western Docks, Ocean Village on the Eastern side, the city centre around Westquay, and Oxford Street's pubs with rooms in the old town.
Pick the area nearest your terminal, not the one nearest the station — voco is about a 6-minute walk to City, while the Harbour Hotel in Ocean Village is about 5 minutes by car to QEII.
Where to sleep the night before
| Hotel | The one thing to know |
|---|---|
| voco Southampton | IHG puts it 0.5 miles from Horizon Cruise Terminal, MSC’s terminal. It was the Holiday Inn Southampton. |
| Hilton Southampton - Utilita Bowl | Its Park, Stay and Cruise package lists transfers to and from the cruise terminal, with up to 21 nights’ parking. |
| Holiday Inn Southampton-Eastleigh | The Cruise and Park Offer adds 15 days’ parking and a taxi to the terminal; IHG gives the price by email. |
| Harbour Hotel, Ocean Village | Calls itself Southampton’s only five-star, and sells a Cruise & Stay with up to 21 nights’ parking. |
We ranked twenty hotels for the night before on distance to the terminals, cruise parking, breakfast and the evening, and picked eight splurges, from Ocean Village to the New Forest. Flying in? Heathrow, Gatwick or Southampton Airport, compared.
Embarkation day, and the morning you get off
Every line gives you an allocated arrival time, and the port means it. ABP asks passengers to arrive at that time on all five of its terminal pages.
Visit Southampton suggests no more than 15-30 minutes before your slot. Turn up hours early and you're likely to wait outside the terminal, not board sooner.
Cunard's window runs from about midday to about 4:30pm, with staterooms 'available as early as 1pm' — and arriving late risks being refused boarding.
Online check-in opens 21 days before sailing on Cunard. MSC's web check-in opens when your booking is confirmed and runs 'up to 2 days before' departure.
Bags go first. Porters take luggage at the kerbside drop areas at every terminal, before you park or check in, and it's delivered to your cabin.
There's no official left-luggage facility inside the terminals and none at Southampton Central. Southampton Airport stores bags for £6 per bag per day — the nearest official option we found.
Getting off. Cunard runs disembarkation at Southampton from around 7.30am to around 10am, with slots by cabin grade and location.
Princess is the one line we found that prints a number: no Heathrow flight earlier than 7 hours after the ship arrives, 7½ hours for Gatwick. Cunard only says to leave 'plenty of time', so book the later train or flight, not the earliest one that looks possible.
All-aboard and latest check-in times weren't published on the pages we checked. Your boarding pass is the authority on both.
