Verdict first
Eurodam opened Signature Class in 2008 and remains the more widely deployed of the two hulls — an Alaska summer worked out of Seattle, a Caribbean winter worked out of Fort Lauderdale, and Mexico, Hawaii and Pacific seasons in her earlier record. Three drydocks have kept her serviceable; a far bigger modernization is named for her under Holland America Evolution, without a published date.
Does Eurodam match the trip you want?
Answer it honestly — the scoring is not generous.
The case for the elder sister
Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands christened Eurodam in Rotterdam on 1 July 2008 — which is a formal way of saying this ship was sent out with the full weight of the company's Dutch identity behind her. She was the first Signature hull, and everything Nieuw Amsterdam later became was drawn from her plans.
What makes her the more interesting of the two on paper is reach. Her habitual working pattern is Alaska from Seattle through the summer and the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale through the winter, and her earlier record adds Mexico, Hawaii and Pacific seasons on top of that. Very few hulls in this fleet have worked as many separate oceans on a repeating schedule.
The hardware has been through drydock in 2011, 2015 and 2023 — a normal maintenance rhythm rather than a reinvention. The reinvention is still ahead of her. Eurodam is one of six vessels named for Holland America Evolution, a modernization program of more than $500 million covering the four Vista ships and both Signature ships. Oosterdam goes first, in autumn 2027; the line has published no date for this one.
Our Built to Solve piece argues that this company keeps putting its money into the journey rather than the vessel. Eurodam is the plain version of that: the extra deck went to cabins and a restaurant, the spending stopped there, and the fare came down to match.
Your stateroom aboard Eurodam
Divide her tonnage by her guest count and Eurodam gives roughly 41 gross tons of ship per person — a shade more elbow room than the larger, newer flagships manage, which is not the result most people expect.
Standard accommodation
The stateroom mix is traditional Holland America: a high share of verandahs, restrained colors, and no attempt at novelty. This class was designed in the mid-2000s and the rooms read that way — well-proportioned, comfortable, thoroughly unfashionable.
Because she carries about 2,104 guests rather than a flagship's 2,650, pressure on the lifts, the Lido and the gangway at peak hours is noticeably lighter. That easing is the practical benefit of the whole class, and it applies to every category aboard equally.
Moving upmarket
Club Orange runs here as a paid daily upgrade, as it does fleetwide, but there is no purpose-built Club Orange dining room on this ship — that room exists on Nieuw Statendam alone. What you are buying aboard Eurodam is the package, not a space of your own.
Evolution is expected to add stateroom and suite categories to the Signature ships. The detailed list Holland America has actually published — solo verandahs with a dedicated workspace, a new suite category with verandahs, a reimagined top suite — describes Oosterdam. Treat it as the direction of travel, and ask what has been confirmed for this hull before paying for a category that may not exist on her yet.
Tamarind, and the evenings after it
Signature's calling card is a restaurant the smaller and older classes never received.
Restaurants aboard
Tamarind — the panoramic pan-Asian room — arrived with this class and is the single clearest reason to pay Signature money rather than R-class money. The Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, the main Dining Room, Lido Market and Dive-In fill out the rest.
Measured against Pinnacle Class it is a shorter list, and we will say so: the flagships hold five specialty restaurants and the Grand Dutch Café. Bringing that café down to the Signature and Vista ships is one of the stated aims of the Evolution program.
The evening program
Music Walk is fitted in full — B.B. King's Blues Club, the dueling pianos at Billboard Onboard, and the Rolling Stone Lounge. The evening is built as a walk between rooms rather than as one large show.
The 270-degree World Stage is not aboard; that theater belongs to Pinnacle Class alone. The 2025 Entertainment Evolution changes do apply here, including the Vivace string ensemble and soloists picked for whichever region the ship is working, but the large-format theater is not part of this hull.
Two home ports, two seasons
Eurodam's durable pattern is Alaska from Seattle across the summer and the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale across the winter, with Mexico, Hawaii and Pacific seasons in her earlier logbook. Deployments are reset season by season — check the published schedule for the specific dates you want before you plan around it.

Plain speaking about Eurodam
Marks in her favour
- The broadest seasonal range of the two Signature hulls — Alaska, the Caribbean, and Pacific work behind her
- Tamarind aboard, a restaurant the Vista and R-class ships never received
- Roughly 41 gross tons per guest, marginally more personal space than the bigger flagships give you
- Named for the Evolution program, so her interiors have a modernization coming rather than a slow fade
Honest deductions
- A 2008 hull — three drydocks are maintenance, not a rebuild, and the interiors show their generation
- No World Stage, no Grand Dutch Café, and a shorter specialty list than Pinnacle Class
- Her Evolution date is unpublished, so booking her expecting the modernized version is a gamble
- She does not appear in the July 2026 Skagway schedule we examined, so her sister holds the only documented port-hours figure in this class
Asked often
Who christened Eurodam?
Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, in Rotterdam on 1 July 2008.
How big is Eurodam?
She measures 86,700 gross tons and carries about 2,104 guests at double occupancy. That works out at roughly 41 gross tons per guest — slightly more space per person than Holland America's largest ships provide, which runs the opposite way to the fare.
Where does Eurodam sail?
Her habitual pattern is Alaska from Seattle in the summer months and the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale in winter, with Mexico, Hawaii and Pacific seasons in her earlier record. Assignments change season by season, so verify the schedule for your dates.
Has Eurodam been refurbished?
She has been through drydock in 2011, 2015 and 2023. A far larger modernization is planned: Eurodam is one of six ships in Holland America Evolution, a program of more than $500 million covering the four Vista ships and both Signature ships. Oosterdam is first in autumn 2027 and no date has been published for Eurodam.
Eurodam or Nieuw Amsterdam?
Eurodam has the wider seasonal range and holds the winter Caribbean pattern. Nieuw Amsterdam holds the documented record of the two: a sixteen-hour call at Skagway on the published July 2026 schedule, the longest of any ship listed in that port that month. Choose on season first and ship second — these are near-identical hulls.
