Volendam is a genuine dining peer of Zaandam, not a rival — choose between the two based on itinerary, cabin, or sailing date, not dining quality.

The Rotterdam Dining Room anchors the included tier as Volendam's single main dining room, scored as one entity — a real ship-specific name, not shared with Zaandam's plainly-named Dining Room, though the menu, service, and score are identical. Lido Market covers the buffet and also carries Holland America's Caputo Neapolitan-style pizza program — served inside the Lido Market on both R Class ships rather than at a standalone pizza venue. Dive-In is the poolside grill, and Explorations Café covers coffee and pastries, with premium coffee drinks the one paid add-on. Complimentary Afternoon Tea runs in the Rotterdam Dining Room, and 24-Hour Room Service covers a complimentary standard menu, with premium items carrying an extra charge.

The permanent specialty bench is genuinely lean here — just Pinnacle Grill (steakhouse) and Canaletto (Italian), with no Rudi's Sel de Mer and no permanent Morimoto restaurant or sushi bar. But the class earns real dining interest back through event-format dining: the Morimoto by Sea Pop-Up, a guaranteed, recurring dinner available at least once per cruise, and Koningstafel, an exceptional six-course dinner event on qualifying longer sailings. Taste of Tamarind is not a permanent restaurant on Volendam. Holland America's own generic Tamarind landing page lists Volendam among several ships with broad, nightly-sounding template language, but the line's own April 2025 Tamarind refresh press release names five other ships for the permanent, refreshed restaurant — Volendam isn't among them — and separately confirms a pop-up-only model for itinerary-specific ships. Cruise Critic's own Volendam and Zaandam dining coverage both independently describe Taste of Tamarind as a pop-up event hosted inside Pinnacle Grill, not a standalone restaurant. This guide treats it as itinerary-specific pop-up programming on both R Class ships, symmetrically, and doesn't manufacture a Volendam-versus-Zaandam scoring advantage from the generic page's inconsistent template language.

A Seafood Boil event occasionally appears as destination or itinerary programming — a casual, family-style seafood pop-up hosted in a designated section of Lido Market on select evenings, at an extra charge, not on every sailing. It's a real, if modest, current product, scored 7.0 like its counterpart on Holland America's Signature Class ships — identically across both R Class ships, never a ship-to-ship differentiator on this page.

Pinnacle Grill is the ship's steakhouse, a reservation-based, cover-charge restaurant. Suite guests receive complimentary breakfast access at Pinnacle Grill. Canaletto serves Italian, dinner-only, operating within/adjacent to the Lido Market space, also cover-charge. Together, they're the entire standing specialty bench on Volendam — there is no current Rudi's Sel de Mer credit, and no standalone Morimoto restaurant or sushi bar on either R Class ship.
