Splurge Hotels · Civitavecchia

The Nicest Night Before the Ship

Civitavecchia’s most decorated rooms are an hour away in Rome. Five of these eight hold MICHELIN Keys, the Bvlgari three of them, but the port shuttle is about 43 to 45 road miles from each by our routing — Villa Giada is the nice night near the ship, and La Posta Vecchia sits halfway. Each card says what the hotel adds and what it leaves you to arrange on sail morning.

What kind of splurge is it?

Eight places made this list. One, Villa Giada, is also in our seventeen; the other seven are here for the night, not the morning. Pick the kind of night below and the matching hotel lights up.

We print two outside ratings: MICHELIN’s Keys, from its 2025 Italy selection, and Forbes Travel Guide’s stars from its Rome page. Italy’s own star categories are set regionally, and the pages we read didn’t print them for these hotels, so we leave them out.

Splurge the night, and plan the morning

None of the eight runs a priced shuttle to the ship. The road figures are ours, with no traffic, to Largo della Pace where the port shuttle starts: Villa Giada about 2.2 miles, La Posta Vecchia about 22.8, and the Rome hotels 43 to 45. We couldn’t route the Hassler.

From Rome there are two cheap ways out. The SIT bus runs from Termini or San Pietro straight to Largo della Pace for €12.50 (about US$14), and the FL5 train runs to Civitavecchia about every 30 minutes for €4.60 (about US$5), per Port Mobility. There’s no official fixed taxi fare from Rome to the port.

Only Villa Giada lists a free breakfast; the other seven’s pages don’t say. Parking ranges from none at the Bvlgari to valet at €65 to €95 a day at the Eden, and nobody says a car can stay while you sail.

The terminals and the lines that sail from Rome’s port are in our Civitavecchia cruise guide.
