A seafront 4-star whose own site offers a port shuttle cleared to reach the ship, cruise-length parking and breakfast on direct rates, about 1.0 road mile from Largo della Pace.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Civitavecchia
Seventeen hotels for a Civitavecchia cruise, from the port gate to Santa Marinella, Fiumicino and Rome, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Seventeen is all that qualified — we say why below.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
The top three all offer a ride to the cruise terminal. San Giorgio’s own site adds long-stay parking for cruisers and breakfast on direct rates, with no price printed for either the ride or the car. Hotel Traiano’s listing pairs a surcharged terminal shuttle with free breakfast. Borgo del Mare, on the south side, is the only hotel whose site calls its terminal transfer complimentary.
Narrow the seventeen by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why seventeen, not twenty? We checked 20 hotels from the port out to Santa Marinella, Fiumicino and Rome, and seventeen were open and published enough to score. The rest are in the not-ranked list, each with the reason.
A word on sources. We read four town hotels from their own websites, San Giorgio, Traiano, Borgo del Mare and the Mediterraneo, and used their Hotels.com listings only where the sites say nothing; every page says which is which. For most of the rest we couldn’t reach a site of their own, so their facts come from their Hotels.com listings. A listing is the booking site’s summary, not the hotel’s promise, so confirm anything you’re counting on. The two Hiltons are from Hilton’s own pages.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Fiumicino · about 41 road miles to Largo della Pace, our routing; the taxi fare is fixed at €130 (about US$145)
ADR and Roma Mobilità publish a fixed fare of €130 between Fiumicino and Civitavecchia port, valid both ways with every supplement included. Take a licensed taxi from the rank at Terminal 1 or 3 arrivals. There's no published fixed fare from Ciampino or from central Rome to the port.
There's no direct train from Fiumicino. Take the FL1 to Roma Trastevere or Ostiense and change to the FL5, which runs to Civitavecchia about every 30 minutes. From Civitavecchia station, walk about 600 m to the Varco Fortezza gate or take the €6 (about US$7) CSP bus to the ships on ship days.
Carnival sells Fiumicino transfers at US$79.99 a person each way; you must land by 12:00, and flights home can't leave before 12:00. MSC says it offers transfers without a price on its page; check your own line.
Our routing gives about 41 road miles from Fiumicino to Largo della Pace, about 49 minutes with no traffic, and about 54 from Ciampino. Discover Cars lists Civitavecchia pick-ups in town and at the station, so you can drop the car before the port.
Driving? The column to watch is “While you sail”. Compare hotel parking with the options on Civitavecchia cruise parking, or price it out in the parking math below.

The seventeen are ranked on how easy they make sail morning in Civitavecchia, not on the room. The splurges are mostly in Rome, 43 to 45 road miles from the port shuttle. The Bvlgari holds Three MICHELIN Keys, and the Hassler, the Eden and the de Russie all carry Forbes Five-Star. La Posta Vecchia sits on the sea at Palo Laziale, about 23 road miles from the port, and Villa Giada is the nice night in Civitavecchia itself.
Every distance here ends at Largo della Pace, the port’s service centre, where the free shuttle to the cruise docks starts — no source publishes coordinates for the terminal buildings, and only the port shuttle or an authorised taxi goes onto the docks anyway. They’re road miles by our routing, not straight lines. The town hotels are within about a mile, the south side at 2.2, Santa Marinella at 6 to 7.6, Fiumicino at about 41 to 43 and Rome’s Termini hotels at 45 to 51.
Six of the seventeen are in Civitavecchia itself, three on its south side, three in Santa Marinella, two at Fiumicino and three by Roma Termini. The far bands are there for a reason. Fiumicino suits a late landing, and Rome suits a last evening in the city before the FL5 train or the SIT bus to the port.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things make a Civitavecchia night before easy or hard. We score each one only from what the hotel publishes, on its own site or its Hotels.com listing, and we say which.
If nobody prints it, it scores zero. Guest reviews, forum posts and port-info sites don’t count, so the €17.50 and €10 fares guests mention at San Giorgio and Smart Cruise are information, not points; San Giorgio scores for the shuttle its own site offers, not for that price. A distance to “the Port of Civitavecchia” isn’t a distance to your ship, which you reach only by the port’s shuttle, so nobody scores a walk.
By band, from Largo della Pace: Civitavecchia town 30; the south side 25; Santa Marinella 20; Fiumicino airport 15; Rome by Termini 10.
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25 — Borgo del Mare, whose site calls its terminal transfer complimentary, is the only one. A ride only inside a package 20. A shuttle to the cruise terminal with no published fare 15 — San Giorgio, Traiano and L’Isola score here. The hotel says you can walk to the cruise terminal 15. A ride through a named partner 10.
Published rate to leave the car 20. Offered, price unpublished 14 — only San Giorgio, whose site sells long-stay parking to cruisers without a price.
A breakfast the listing or hotel says is included scores 10. Five of the seventeen say so; San Giorgio’s counts on the rates its own site sells.
On the beach 6, pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, which only Traiano’s apartments have. Only Cavalluccio Marino lists beach umbrellas and loungers on its own seafront; the Mercure lists a beach bar without saying it’s on a beach, so it doesn’t get the six.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. Two town hotels finish on 33. Hotel de La Ville and Hotel Mediterraneo both list free parking for the night, and the alphabet puts de La Ville first. On 30, the Mediterraneo in Santa Marinella comes first on its free breakfast, then Smart Cruise, which has parking, then Riviera Suites, which has none. On 13, the three Rome hotels fall by parking: UNA Decò at €35 (about US$40), NH Palazzo Cinquecento at €45 (about US$50), and the Bettoja, whose valet price isn’t printed.
Two things don’t score, on purpose: room rates, which jump on ship days, and guest review scores.
Two Italian things to check yourself: a lift, which four of the town and coast hotels don’t have, and the city tourist tax, which is paid at the hotel and isn’t in most online prices. Each page says what the listing prints on both.
One of the seventeen offers to keep your car while you sail, and it doesn’t print the price. The port’s own lot does, so the sums below use it.
At the hotels. Hotel San Giorgio’s site offers long-stay parking for cruise passengers, keys sealed in the hotel safe, but no price; one of its pages says the car stays at the hotel, another says a closed area about 3 km away. Everyone else prints nightly parking only, from free at Hotel de La Ville and Villa Giada, per their listings, to €20 (about US$20) a night at San Giorgio, per its listing.
At the port. Parcheggio Nord sits inside the port by Varco Vespucci, open 5:30 AM to midnight, with 226 spaces and 15 accessible ones. It’s €1.20 (about US$1) for the first hour and €17 (about US$19) for 24 hours, per Port Mobility, with a free shuttle to your ship. The weekly rate is €79 (about US$90) at the gate or €69 (about US$75) online from May 16 to October 31, and €69 or €59 (about US$65) the rest of the year.
Off the port. MSC names an MSC Park and Cruise lot on the Via Aurelia at km 74.6, with a free shuttle and booking up to 48 hours ahead, but no price on its page.
| Parcheggio Nord, €17 for 24 hours or €69 a week online to October 31, per Port Mobility | — |
Our arithmetic on Port Mobility’s prices: you park your cruise nights plus one day, at €17 a day until the €69 online weekly rate (to October 31) is cheaper. Port Mobility doesn’t say how a stay longer than a week is charged, so past six nights we show the daily rate, which is likely the most you’d pay.
Every option side by side: Civitavecchia cruise parking, compared.
We checked 20 hotels; seventeen made the list. Our splurge list covers Rome’s MICHELIN Key and Forbes hotels, La Posta Vecchia on the coast and Villa Giada from this list.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| Hotel Traghetto, Civitavecchia | A Booking.com title shows it listed for 2026, and a 2018 forum post put it "right at port", but we found no site of its own and read no page about it, so we couldn't score it. |
| Mercure Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport | Known to us only from an undated Oyster review; we couldn't confirm it's open, so it isn't ranked. |
| Best Western Hotel Rome Airport | Also only an undated Oyster review; open status unconfirmed, so it isn't ranked. |
| Best Western Hotel Porto di Roma | Named in our brief but not seen in any source we read. |
| NH Civitavecchia | We found no NH hotel in Civitavecchia. |
| Courtyard Rome Airport | Not on the Fiumicino hotel lists we read. |
Fiumicino is the airport the lines plan around: about 41 road miles from Largo della Pace by our routing, roughly 49 minutes with no traffic. Holland America says about 90 minutes; MSC says about 71 km. The taxi fare is fixed at €130 a car, both ways, per ADR. Ciampino is about 54 road miles out, with no fixed fare to the port.
There’s no direct train from Fiumicino. The FL1 runs to Roma Trastevere or Ostiense, where you change to the FL5 for Civitavecchia. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes; the airport page has the taxis and transfers. In town, Civitavecchia’s national archaeology museum reopened on September 25, 2026, per Visit Lazio, if you land early.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
On our scoring it's Hotel San Giorgio on the seafront. Its own website offers a shuttle from the hotel to the port, long-stay parking for cruise passengers and breakfast on direct rates, though it prints no price for the ride or the parking. Hotel Traiano is second on a listed terminal shuttle and free breakfast; Borgo del Mare, whose site calls its terminal transfer complimentary, is third.
Because seventeen open hotels publish enough to score. Civitavecchia's own stock is small, and the Traghetto had too little in print for us to judge. Two Fiumicino hotels we found only in undated reviews are left out too, because we couldn't confirm they're open. We'd rather list seventeen we can stand behind than pad to twenty.
Ships board at Roma Cruise Terminal's terminals on the docks, among them the Amerigo Vespucci Terminal (2018) and the Donato Bramante Terminal on Pier 12, inaugurated at the end of November 2025. You reach them by the port's free shuttle from Largo della Pace or the parking areas, or by an authorised taxi, per a port-info site. Port Mobility doesn't publish which line uses which terminal; of the lines we read, only MSC names one, the Vespucci. Your line's documents name yours.
Not to the ship itself. Passengers reach the cruise docks by the port's free shuttle from Largo della Pace or the parking areas, or by an authorised taxi, per a port-info site. You can walk to Largo della Pace from the town hotels: Port Mobility says it's under 500 metres from the Varco Vespucci gate, and the free Blue Line bus links it to the Fortezza by the station.
One of the seventeen offers it: Hotel San Giorgio's site sells long-stay parking for cruise passengers, without a printed price. The parking with a published rate is the port's own: Parcheggio Nord is €17 for 24 hours, or €79 a week at the gate and €69 online through October 31, per Port Mobility, with a free shuttle to the ship. MSC also names an MSC Park and Cruise lot on the Via Aurelia, without a price.
Civitavecchia if you want the shortest morning: the town hotels are a mile or less from the port shuttle. Rome if you want a last evening there — the FL5 train runs to Civitavecchia about every 30 minutes for €4.60, and the SIT bus goes from Termini straight to Largo della Pace for €12.50, per Port Mobility. Budget well over an hour either way.
None of our seventeen runs a free one from Fiumicino to a Civitavecchia hotel. The Hilton Garden Inn Rome Airport runs a free shuttle to and from Fiumicino, per Hilton, and the Hilton Rome Airport is joined to the terminals by a covered walkway — but both are about 41 to 43 road miles from the port. From Fiumicino the taxi fare to the port is fixed at €130 a car, per ADR; Carnival sells a transfer at US$79.99 a person.
Civitavecchia's own 2025 rates, the latest the city publishes, are €4 (about US$4) a person a night at 3- and 4-star hotels, €3 (about US$3) at 1- and 2-stars, guesthouses and B&Bs, and €5 (about US$6) at a 5-star, up to 5 nights; the city's FAQ exempts under-12s, though some listings say under-10s. Santa Marinella's listings show €2 (about US$2) or €3, up to 10 nights. In Rome it's €7.50 (about US$8) at a 4-star and €10 at a 5-star, up to 10 nights, per a January 2026 news report on the city's rates.
Hotel rates move every day and jump on busy sailing days, so any number we printed would be stale by the time you read it. Our score uses the things a Civitavecchia hotel can't reprice overnight: its distance to Largo della Pace, the ride, parking, breakfast and the evening.
