La Posta Vecchia is the splurge that's on the way. It's a 19-room villa on the sea at Palo Laziale, restored by J. Paul Getty, per MICHELIN, with an indoor sea-view pool, a Turkish bath and a private beach, about 22.8 road miles from Largo della Pace by our routing.
MICHELIN lists it but gives it no Key. MICHELIN puts the port about 30 minutes away and Fiumicino about 25, which makes it the one luxury stop between the airport and the ship.
It's seasonal: Great Small Hotels mentions reopening dates in April, and we didn't read the hotel's own site. That listing also mentions a "shuttle service" without terms and a low-season rate of €352 (about US$395).
Book it for a night by the sea, and confirm it's open on your dates before anything else.
Book it if
- You want the sea and a private beach before the cruise
- You're flying into Fiumicino and want to stop halfway
- You'd like free parking for the night
Look elsewhere if
- You're sailing out of season — check it's open.
- You want a MICHELIN Key hotel.
- You need the shuttle's terms in writing before you book.
