Sleep in town, not at the port

The night before, inNuremberg

No hotel on this page has a river view, and that's the point. The cruise port is on the canal in the harbour district. The old town, the station and the airport subway are all in the centre — so that's where we'd put you.

How we chose

How we chose

In most Danube cities we start with the embankment. Nuremberg has none worth staying on. The ships berth at Europakai 10 on the Main-Danube Canal, a 15–20 minute taxi from the centre per the tourism board — so we chose for the station and the old town instead.

Airport access counts double here. The U2 subway runs from the terminal to the Hauptbahnhof in about 12 minutes, which is why the hotels around the station lead the list.

We wanted a rating we could confirm, from the hotel's own site, the tourism board or Booking.com, and we say where we couldn't. Three of the six have no Booking.com button because we haven't verified a listing. We don't rank by price.

The hotels

Six for the night before, in Nuremberg

The grand one

Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg

'Located directly opposite the main train station', a hotel since 1896, with 190 rooms, Art Nouveau-style marble bathrooms, Restaurant Brasserie and the Atelier Bar; the airport is listed at 8 km.

The grand address and the easiest logistics in one building: the U2 from the airport delivers you across the street, and the U1 toward the port leaves from the same station. With a 9:00 pm Uniworld all-aboard and a late flight in, this is the hotel that makes it calm.

The design pick4-star per Booking.com's Nuremberg listing

Hotel Drei Raben

'Nuremberg's First Theme Hotel' — rooms named for local legends such as Till Eulenspiegel, Martin Behaim and the Nuremberg Funnel, plus Bar Rabenwein.

The design choice: 21 story-rooms a short walk from the station, opposite the Neues Museum — a hotel with a point of view, which suits one night better than a week. Small, so book early for an Advent date.

The sensible splurge4-star per Booking.com's Nuremberg listing

Hotel VICTORIA Nürnberg

'Boutique hotel in a prime location' at Königstraße 80, 65 air-conditioned rooms in seven categories; breakfast included with direct online bookings.

Upper-upscale at a gentler rate, close to the station and the Lorenzkirche, with air conditioning — worth knowing for a summer sailing, since not every old-town hotel here has it. The breakfast-with-direct-booking rule is the hotel's, so compare before you use the button.

Quiet luxury5-star per the Nuremberg tourism board listing

Sheraton Carlton Nürnberg

Indoor pool, sauna, Carlton Spa with roof terrace and Restaurant Tafelhof; the city lists it 370 m from the Hauptbahnhof and 960 m from the Hauptmarkt, at Eilgutstraße 15.

The quiet full-service option, the only pool on this list, and still a five-minute walk to the station. No booking button here — we haven't verified a listing, so book direct or ask us.

The newer one

Karl August – a Neighborhood Hotel

Air-conditioned rooms, a fitness centre and a terrace in the Mitte district; guests score it 9.0 on Booking.com.

The newer design-led stay in the centre, with a guest score that stood out on the city listing. We haven't verified a booking listing for it, so there is no booking button — treat the card as a lead, not a verdict.

For two nights

Melter Hotel & Apartments – a Neighborhood Hotel

City-centre rooms and apartments near the Old Town, air-conditioned; guests score it 9.2 on Booking.com.

Apartment-style rooms suit a two-night stop — the kind you'd want if you're doing both the Documentation Center and the Memorium before boarding. Same caveat as its sibling: no verified listing, so no button.

Embarkation day

Night-before practicalities

  1. 01

The all-aboard is 9:00 pm, so the day is yours

Uniworld's Nuremberg all-aboard is 9:00 pm — later than Passau's 7:30. That leaves a full day after checkout for the Memorium (closed Tuesdays) or the Documentation Center before a taxi to the port.

  2. 02

Getting to the quay with bags

The port is at Europakai 10 on the canal, not in town. The tourism board quotes a taxi at 15–20 minutes, about €24; the public-transport route is U1 five stops to Röthenbach, then bus 60. No one has parked at the port since 10 February 2025, but taxis and buses can still enter.

  3. 03

    Nobody publishes a left-luggage option

Neither the port page nor the tourism board's 'by ship' page mentions left luggage. Ask your hotel to hold bags after checkout; the station hotels are used to it. Plan the taxi from there.

Have us plan it

Hotel night and cruise, one plan

We book the night before with the sailing, so the transfer, the all-aboard time and the flight all line up. Tell us the dates and which of these you liked.

  • Usually the same fare as booking direct, and our advice costs you nothing.
  • We compare the lines sailing from Nuremberg for your dates, not one brochure.
  • Hotel nights, flights and transfers can go into the same plan.

Quick answers

Nuremberg pre-cruise hotel questions

Is there a hotel at the Nuremberg cruise port?

None that we'd recommend, and none on this page. The port is a working harbour facility on the Main-Danube Canal. Every hotel here is in the centre, where the sights and the airport subway are — a 15–20 minute taxi to the ship.

Which hotel is best for an early flight or a late arrival?

Le Méridien Grand, which sits directly opposite the Hauptbahnhof — the U2 from the airport takes about 12 minutes and drops you across the street. The Sheraton Carlton is 370 m from the station per the city's listing.

Why do three hotels have no booking button?

Because we haven't verified a booking listing for them, and we don't link to one we haven't checked. The Sheraton Carlton, Karl August and Melter are on the page as leads; book them direct or ask us to.

Should I stay near the Hauptmarkt for an Advent cruise?

Yes, if you want the Christkindlesmarkt outside the door — it runs 27 November to 24 December 2026, daily 10–22. Book early; the market fills the hotels. The station hotels are still within a walk of the square.
