Left Bank, by the tower

Boarding the Seine in Paris

In Paris the ship usually ties up within sight of the Eiffel Tower, on a Left Bank quay in the 15th. Usually is the word to watch: berths move by date, and a few departures board outside the city.

In short

Paris, briefly

Most ships moor on the Left Bank, in the 15th arrondissement. The quays are Port de Javel and Port de Grenelle, close to the Eiffel Tower. Uniworld uses Javel Poste Aval for almost all of 2026.

Check the date, not just the line. Uniworld boards outside central Paris on two 2026 dates, and Avalon sends guests to a pre-cruise meeting point instead of naming a berth.

From CDG, take the fixed-fare taxi. With luggage it beats two RER lines. Orly is the shorter, cheaper ride to this bank.

Fly in the day before at the latest. With a 6:00 pm all-aboard on Uniworld, embarkation day is a half day, not a free one.

The berths

Four berths, and why the date matters

Two quays in the 15th take most ships. Two more, outside the city, come into play for larger ships and for particular departures.

Port de Javel (Javel Poste Aval and Poste Amont), Port de Javel Bas / Quai André Citroën, 75015

On the Left Bank, a few blocks southwest of Port de Grenelle. The nearest station is RER C Boulevard Victor–Pont du Garigliano, but only some C trains stop there: take one bound for Versailles-Château Rive Gauche or Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Port de Grenelle (Quai de Grenelle), 75015

On the Left Bank by the Eiffel Tower, with RER C Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel the nearest station. Viking says guests can see the tower and the replica Statue of Liberty from the ship.

Le Pecq, western suburbs

Outside central Paris, for a few ships too large for the city quays. Viking lists 'Paris (Le Pecq)' on its France's Finest itinerary. Budget a taxi to the quay.

Courbevoie, 28 Quai du Président Paul Doumer, 92400 — and Rouen on one date

On the Seine in Hauts-de-Seine, west of the city. Uniworld boards its 2 December 2026 departure here, and moves the 29 October 2026 embarkation to Rouen, at Quai Gaston Boulet.

Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon, Scenic and Tauck

None of the five publishes a 2026 Paris quay. AmaWaterways' itinerary says only 'Board your ship', and Avalon re-docks during the day and meets guests at a named pre-cruise point instead.

When the quays are crowded, ships tie up alongside one another, and you may walk through another ship to reach yours. Crew usually help with bags on the pier. A taxi can set you down right beside the gangway.

Getting there

CDG or Orly, then the Left Bank

Both airports have official fixed taxi fares, set by which bank you're going to. The berths are on the Left Bank. That makes Orly the cheaper ride, and CDG the pricier one.

Fly into

Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly CDG / ORY

Paris je t'aime puts CDG at 35–50 minutes into the city by RER B and 45–60 by taxi, and Orly at 25–40 minutes by taxi or about 20 on Metro 14 to Gare de Lyon or Châtelet.

  • Taxi

    Fixed fares, 2026

CDG to the Left Bank is €65, to the Right Bank €56. Orly to the Left Bank is €36, to the Right Bank €45. Booking adds €4 for an immediate car or €7 in advance, with a supplement from the fifth passenger — use the official ranks at the arrivals exits.

  • Train

RER B, then RER C, from CDG

RER B leaves CDG every 10–20 minutes, from 4:50 am to 11:50 pm. For Javel, change at Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame to a westbound RER C for Boulevard Victor. RER B may be disrupted after 11 pm on some 2026 weekdays.

  • Train

Metro 14 or Orlyval from Orly

Line 14 runs every two minutes and reaches Gare de Lyon or Châtelet in about 20. Orlyval with RER B via Antony takes about 40. Both take the same €14 airport ticket.

  • Bus

    Not the Roissybus

The Roissybus was discontinued on 1 March 2026, and Orlybus stopped in March 2025. What remains are local buses, none of them practical with cruise luggage.

  • Line transfer

    Depends on the line

AmaWaterways' Paris & Normandy fare excludes airfare. Viking and AmaWaterways include transfers only when you buy their flights; Scenic and Tauck include airport transfers in the fare; with Uniworld or Avalon, ask about Paris transfers when you book.

The day before

The Louvre — booked, and never a Tuesday

Closed on Tuesdays. Otherwise 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, until 9:00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, with last entry an hour before closing. Time slots are mandatory for everyone from 17 October to 1 November 2026 and recommended the rest of the year.

Walk from the tower to your berth

Grenelle sits by the Eiffel Tower and Javel a few blocks on, so a walk downriver along the Left Bank passes both quays. If you want the summit, book it ahead.

Things to do in Paris

In Paris a booked time slot saves more than a guide does.

  • Seine illumination or dinner cruiseFor the night before, if your own line doesn't sail one.
  • Louvre guided tour with timed entryEntry comes built in, so the time slot is handled for you.
  • Eiffel Tower summit with a hostThe tower is next to the Grenelle berth, and a pre-booked slot keeps the afternoon predictable.

Where to stay

Six hotels for the night before

Our Paris pre-cruise hotel hub has six picks across both banks. Cheval Blanc Paris and the Plaza Athénée lead it for the grand night, and Le Narcisse Blanc is the pick on the ship's side of the river.

The 7th (Invalides and the Eiffel Tower)

Left Bank, between the tower and Les Invalides, a short walk from the river and upstream of both berths. Le Narcisse Blanc is here.

The 15th (Beaugrenelle and Javel)

The berths are in this district. The ship is a short walk or one RER C stop away. The Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel stands on this side of the tower.

The 8th (Avenue Montaigne and the Champs-Élysées)

The grand-hotel quarter on the Right Bank, home to the Plaza Athénée. The CDG taxi costs less to this bank — the ship, though, is on the other one.

When

Late October is the tightest fortnight. Louvre slots are compulsory for everyone, and Uniworld's 29 October departure boards in Rouen rather than Paris. Uniworld's Magical Parisian Holiday sailing boards later, with a 9:00 pm all-aboard. CDG Express — about 20 minutes to Gare de l'Est — is planned for 28 March 2027, so don't count on it before then.

Quick answers

Paris river cruise questions

Which Paris quay is my ship on?

Most likely Port de Javel or Port de Grenelle, both on the Left Bank in the 15th. Uniworld publishes its quay by date. On other lines, check your cruise documents.

Is the RER sensible with cruise luggage?

With one bag each, it works. With more, take the fixed-fare taxi — the RER route from CDG needs a change, and the taxi can drop you on the pier.

Do any Seine cruises board outside Paris?

A few. Larger ships use Le Pecq in the western suburbs, and Uniworld boards one 2026 departure at Courbevoie and another in Rouen. Read the embarkation address on your own booking, not the brochure's.

Can I see the Eiffel Tower from the ship?

From Grenelle, yes — Viking says the tower and the replica Statue of Liberty are both in view. Javel is a few blocks further along the same bank.

How early should I get to Paris?

The day before, at minimum. Uniworld's early-evening all-aboard leaves little room for a delayed transatlantic flight, and a second night buys the Louvre.

Left Bank or Right Bank for the night before?

The Left Bank, for an easy boarding morning: the 7th or the 15th keeps the ride to the ship short. Stay on the Right Bank for the palace hotels, then book a taxi across.
