Hilton Auckland
The hotel on Princes Wharf, with a heated pool and FISH, about 350 m from Queens Wharf.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Auckland
Twelve places to stay before an Auckland sailing, scored on what gets you to the wharf, not on reviews. Ten are a walk from the ships, none runs a ride and none says breakfast is in every rate — so the walk and the evening decide it, and the hotel on Princes Wharf leads.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. No hotel pays for a place here. Booking.com links earn us a commission, and they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, its brand, a tourism board, the airport or the line publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
There’s no cruise parking to price here, so the plan assumes you fly in.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
The Hilton wins: it’s on Princes Wharf, about 350 m from Queens Wharf, with a heated pool, a gym and FISH, per Hilton. The InterContinental is second and the closest of all, about 100 m from Shed 10.
The Hotel Britomart is third, about 200 m away, with published times and kingi downstairs.
Narrow the twelve by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why twelve? They cover the waterfront, Britomart, the Viaduct, uptown, one splurge in Wynyard Quarter and two beds at the airport. Only four rest on the hotel’s own pages or its brand’s (TFE Hotels, IHG, Crowne Plaza); seven use Tourism New Zealand’s directory and one Auckland Unlimited’s, because the hotels’ own sites wouldn’t load for us.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change our rankings, which come only from what each hotel publishes. Affiliate disclosure.

None of the twelve runs a ride to the ship, and from downtown you won’t need one. The two airport hotels are a walk from arrivals, and The Hotel Britomart includes airport transfers with its suites.

| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | No shuttle, per Hilton | |

Auckland Airport (AKL)Neither the hotel nor Tourism New Zealand mentions an airport transfer. To the shipThe hotel’s page offers Cityhop car hire, not a ship run. Queens Wharf is about 900 m from our pin and Princes Wharf about 850 m, downhill.
| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Walk from international arrivals | |
Auckland Airport (AKL)Accor puts the hotel on the doorstep of the international terminal. The domestic terminal is about 10 to 15 minutes’ walk between terminals; allow longer with bags or mobility needs, and follow the airport signs. To the shipThe Novotel lists no cruise transfer. The wharves are about 18 km away in a straight line; Tourism New Zealand says SkyDrive and taxis leave from outside the international terminal.
| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Walk from international | |
Auckland Airport (AKL)The Pullman calls it a one-minute walk from the international terminal, and Tourism New Zealand puts it 100 m away. That’s the international terminal only; domestic is further. To the shipFor the ship, you’re on your own from the Pullman. The wharves are about 18 km away by our pins; Tourism New Zealand calls central Auckland about 20 minutes by car or public transport.
Every distance ends at Queens Wharf (Shed 10), using our own pin, and every one is a straight line between our map pins, not a walking route. Princes Wharf is about 250 m west.
The wharf pins are our estimates from the addresses. Hilton, Sofitel, M Social, The Sebel, Rendezvous, Crowne Plaza and both airport hotels use Tourism New Zealand’s published positions; the rest are our estimates.
Five things make an Auckland night before easy or hard. Here the walk and the evening do the work. Points come from the hotel or its brand, or from a tourism board’s listing when we couldn’t read the hotel’s own site.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Where we couldn’t read a hotel’s own site, each page names the tourism board we used instead, and a booking platform’s fact never scores.
By band, from Queens Wharf: on the waterfront, within about 450 m, 30; a short walk up, to 750 m, 25; the Viaduct edge and uptown, to 1.1 km, 20; city fringe 15; the airport 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Nobody in Auckland scores here; no hotel publishes a ride to the ship, and from downtown you walk.
A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. Nobody scores here either; parking for your stay doesn’t count.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Nobody scores. Hilton sells its buffet for a fee unless a rate package includes it, TFE prices The Hotel Britomart’s at NZ$33, and the rest describe a breakfast without saying it’s in every rate.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. The Sofitel and the Park Hyatt score 12 of 15 — a pool, food, a spa and a gym. The Hilton, Adina, the Rendezvous and the Crowne Plaza score 9.
Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to Queens Wharf. The InterContinental, The Hotel Britomart and M Social tie on 36, in that order by distance. Adina and the Rendezvous tie on 34, and the Sofitel and the Park Hyatt on 32; the nearer goes first each time.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.
No hotel in our twelve sells parking for a cruise, and the wharves have none to offer. Auckland is a fly-in port.
At the wharves. Royal Caribbean and Azamara say there’s no parking at the terminal. Holland America names the Downtown Car Park, where Wilson Parking lists a NZ$24.50 weekday maximum and NZ$15.50 nights and weekends — but it closes overnight and prints no multi-day rate.
At the hotels. Adina prices parking at NZ$50 a night, the Rendezvous’ valet at NZ$45 a day, M Social’s at NZ$55, the Hilton’s at NZ$60 and The Hotel Britomart’s at NZ$70 a day, all for your stay. Nobody says the car can stay while you sail, so there’s no calculator here.
We left out hotels whose details we couldn’t read from the hotel, its brand or a tourism board in this pass. Ask Seabound Journeys about one that isn’t here, and we’ll score it the same way.
Auckland Airport is about 18 km from Queens Wharf in a straight line, and the fixed taxi fares to the CBD run NZ$62 to NZ$105. Rendezvous Heritage is on Hobson Street, where SkyDrive stops.
Get the NZeTA before you fly and fill in the Traveller Declaration. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes, and the airport page has the fares and the landing check.
