Cruises From Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland is a fly-in port for US cruisers, and most of what starts here is a one-way trip to Sydney. In 2026–27 that means Viking, Holland America, Celebrity, Oceania, Azamara, Norwegian, Silversea and Seabourn, mostly December to March — and both wharves are a walk from downtown hotels.

Five ways into this guide

Go straight to the question you came with. Each card jumps to its answer.

01

In brief

Auckland has two cruise wharves on Quay Street, downtown. Queens Wharf has Shed 10, which Auckland Council refurbished as the city’s main cruise terminal; Princes Wharf is next door to the west. Your line tells you which.

This page is for starting or ending a cruise here. Only calling? Our Auckland port-day guide covers the walk into town, and our shore excursion guide ranks the tours.

Be clear about what actually starts here. In the 2026–27 season it’s mostly one-way voyages between Auckland and Sydney, plus a few long voyages to Asia or the US. Princess bases its ships in Sydney and Brisbane, not Auckland, per its own release, and Royal Caribbean’s two ships sail from Sydney and Brisbane.

It’s a fly-in port for you, not a drive-in one. We found no cruise parking at either wharf, and the overnight flights from the US land around 06:00. Land the day before.

Lines starting or ending cruises here

Deployments change every season. Every date below names its source, and dates seen only on an agency’s listing are labelled that way.

Current as of October 20, 2026

Checked on October 20, 2026. Where a line’s own page wouldn’t load, we used trade press or an agency listing and say so.

Viking’s own Australia & New Zealand page lists a 15-day voyage between Sydney and Auckland in 2027, and Auckland to Bali (31 days) and Auckland to Vancouver (93 days) in 2028. An agency listing, AffordableTours.com, shows Viking Venus leaving Auckland on December 6, 2026 and January 3 and 31, 2027, and Viking Orion on January 25 and February 22, 2027.

Holland America’s Noordam runs several 14-day Auckland–Sydney sailings from January to March 2027, with Milford Sound, per Cruise Critic’s report of the programme. The same agency listing shows Auckland departures on January 17 and February 14, 2027.

Celebrity’s Edge sails from Sydney, with open-jaw Sydney–Auckland itineraries from early 2027, per Cruise Industry News. The agency listing shows a 12-night Auckland departure on January 25, 2027.

Princess bases Royal Princess in Sydney and Grand Princess in Brisbane, and names Auckland as one of three places to join Grand Princess’s 79-night Circle Pacific voyage, per its December 2024 release. Agency listings add Crown Princess leaving Auckland for Los Angeles on November 9, 2026 (25 nights) and Royal Princess for Sydney on March 6, 2027 (13 nights) — agency dates, not Princess’s own.

Carnival plans its first Auckland season on Carnival Adventure from May to July 2027: nine departures to Norfolk Island, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia, ending with a one-way to Sydney on July 29, per Cruise Industry News.

Agency listings only, so check them with the line: Oceania Riviera on January 24 and February 21, 2027; Azamara Pursuit on December 19, 2026 and January 20, 2027, and Quest on February 7; Norwegian Spirit on February 5 and 27, 2027; Silversea Silver Moon on December 18, 2026 and January 31, 2027; and Seabourn Quest on February 22, 2027, a world-cruise segment. We found no Royal Caribbean, Regent, Ponant or Cunard voyage starting here in 2026–27.

Agency dates are published departures, not cabin availability or a full calendar. Ship assignments change; check your own sailing.

Queens Wharf, Princes Wharf and your bags

Two terminals, both on Quay Street. Queens Wharf has Shed 10 at 89 Quay Street, at the bottom of Queen Street; Princes Wharf is at 147 Quay Street (Shed 21), per Holland America and Azamara. Azamara’s own sailings have used both in the same season, so check the wharf as your date gets close.

Shed 10 handles bags, security and border processing on the ground floor, with the embarkation lounge upstairs, per Auckland Live. Cruise Critic says bag drop is inside the terminal or by the taxi stand, depending on the line.

There’s no luggage storage at the port, per Cruise Critic. The Luggage Hotel on Princes Wharf takes bags at NZ$15 each — weekdays only, 09:30 to 17:30, per Holland America — and eLockers at the Downtown Ferry Terminal, Pier 2, run 24/7.

The walk to Britomart is short. Cruise Critic puts the train station about four minutes from Queens Wharf and ten from Princes Wharf.

05

Parking, in short

We found no cruise parking at either wharf. Royal Caribbean and Azamara say there’s no parking at the terminal; Cruise Critic calls Princes Wharf’s spaces very limited.

Holland America names the Downtown Car Park, on Customs Street West, for long stays. Wilson Parking’s page for it lists NZ$6 an hour on weekdays, a NZ$24.50 weekday maximum and NZ$15.50 nights and weekends — but it closes overnight, charges a NZ$75 after-hours release fee and prints no multi-day rate. Auckland Transport says the car park has been sold to Precinct Properties, so check who runs it now.

For a US cruiser this rarely matters. Fly in, and take a taxi or walk.

06

Getting here

Auckland Airport (AKL) is about 18 km from Queens Wharf in a straight line by our map; Holland America puts the drive at about 40 minutes and Royal Caribbean at about 45. Taxis at the rank outside door 11 sell fixed CBD fares from NZ$62 to NZ$105, depending on the company, per the airport.

Nonstop from the US: Air New Zealand flies to Auckland from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and New York, per its own site. FlightsFrom.com, a flight database, lists American from Dallas–Fort Worth and Los Angeles seasonally. United and Delta also serve Auckland, but we couldn’t read their route pages, so check the airline for your dates.

The overnights land early. Planemapper shows Air New Zealand’s NZ5 from Los Angeles and NZ7 from San Francisco both arriving at 06:00, two calendar days after they leave.

Entry: US citizens need an NZeTA or a visa and a passport valid three months past departure, per the State Department. The NZeTA costs NZ$17 on the app or NZ$23 online, plus the NZ$100 International Visitor Levy, per Immigration New Zealand’s fee table, and can take up to 72 hours. Fill in the New Zealand Traveller Declaration before you fly, and declare all food: a false declaration is a NZ$400 fine, per MPI.

Uber can’t collect in the taxi zones, per Holland America; Auckland Airport sends rideshare pick-ups to the off-site transfer zone, a 5–7 minute walk. Auckland Airport to the ship has the rest.

The night before, ranked: we’ve scored twelve hotels for the night before an Auckland sailing, from Princes Wharf to the airport, on what each one publishes. None runs a ride to the ship, and ten are a walk. Four worth knowing:

Auckland FAQ

Which cruise lines sail from Auckland?

In 2026–27, mostly one-way voyages to Sydney: Viking, Holland America (Noordam, January to March 2027) and Celebrity Edge, with Oceania, Azamara, Norwegian, Silversea and Seabourn on agency listings. Carnival plans Auckland round trips from May to July 2027. We found no Royal Caribbean voyage starting here.

Where do cruises leave from in Auckland?

Queens Wharf (Shed 10, 89 Quay Street) or Princes Wharf (147 Quay Street), both downtown. Your line assigns the wharf, and it can change by date.

How much is a taxi from Auckland Airport to the cruise terminal?

Auckland Airport lists fixed CBD fares of NZ$62 to NZ$105, depending on the company, with airport charges included. Holland America puts it at about NZ$90 and 40 minutes.

Do US citizens need an NZeTA to start a cruise in Auckland?

Yes, or a visa. The State Department says US citizens need one, and Immigration New Zealand’s fee table puts it at NZ$17 on the app or NZ$23 online, plus the NZ$100 International Visitor Levy.

Is there parking at the Auckland cruise terminal?

Not that we found. Royal Caribbean and Azamara say there’s no parking at the terminal, and the Downtown Car Park publishes no multi-day rate.

Can I store luggage at the Auckland cruise port?

Not at the port, per Cruise Critic. The Luggage Hotel on Princes Wharf charges NZ$15 a bag on weekdays, 09:30 to 17:30, and eLockers at the Downtown Ferry Terminal run 24/7.

Can I fly in the morning my cruise leaves Auckland?

The US overnights land about 06:00, so it can work on paper. One delay and the ship is gone, so fly in the day before.
