Tilbury is on the far side of London from Heathrow. A booked car takes about 1 hour 15 minutes on City Airport Taxis’ estimate, from £156.91 for a saloon.

Fly into Heathrow (LHR), the airport Heathrow itself says has about 900 weekly flights to North America on eight carriers. From there a booked car to Tilbury takes about 1 hour 15 minutes, from £156.91 for a saloon for three, per City Airport Taxis.
Gatwick is closer to Tilbury by car, about 51 minutes and from £134.70. The train works from either, but from Heathrow it’s the Elizabeth line, a change for West Ham, the c2c train and about a mile at the end.
With cruise luggage, book the car — the train, with two changes and a mile on foot, is for a light bag.

Ambassador runs a coach from London Victoria Coach Station to the terminal for selected sailings, booked through My Ambassador Sailing, but prints no price on the page we read. We found no cruise-line airport transfer price for Tilbury.

A rental car is an option if you’re driving to the terminal’s £11-a-night car park; nobody we read prices a rental for this run, so we haven’t.

Entry. US citizens need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to visit, and have since February 25, 2026: the Home Office says airlines will stop you boarding without one. It costs £20 online or in the UK ETA app, lasts two years or until your passport expires, and a decision usually comes within a day but can take up to 3 working days, per GOV.UK. Wait for the confirmation email before you fly. The Home Office’s February release gave the fee as £16; GOV.UK’s apply page now says £20, so we use that.
Bags. We found no published luggage storage at the terminal. Capital Cruising says porters can take your luggage from the car to your cabin. Ambassador says cabins are typically ready from early afternoon.
Trains. From Heathrow, the Elizabeth line starts from £13.90, per Heathrow. Emma Cruises, a cruise blog, routes it to Whitechapel and on to West Ham; from West Ham, c2c runs direct to Tilbury Town in about 31 minutes, every 29 minutes on average, from £5.80 off-peak, per c2c. From the City, c2c runs direct from Fenchurch Street. Tilbury Town to the terminal is about a mile; bus 99 runs from the platform 1 stop, per c2c. One night near the river takes the M25 off sail day, and after an overnight flight from the US you’ll want it. Three of our ten sit within 7 km of the terminal.
None runs a shuttle to the ship. Sofitel at Terminal 5 suits the night you land late, or the night after you sail back.
