Pre-Cruise Hotels · London (Tilbury)
Ten hotels for a Tilbury cruise, scored on what gets you to the terminal, not on reviews. Nobody can walk to this ship from a hotel: the three nearest sit about 6 to 7 km away, and none of the ten lists breakfast in every rate or sells cruise parking.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. No hotel pays for a place here. Booking.com links earn us a commission, and they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Orsett Hall leads: it’s in the nearest band and adds a spa and a restaurant, about 6.6 km out. Premier Inn Thurrock East and Travelodge Lakeside tie on 33, and the Premier Inn takes second on distance.
Narrow the ten by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why ten? We could read the facts for ten. We left out hotels across the river and ones whose pages we couldn’t open.

Every distance ends at our pin for the London International Cruise Terminal, and every one is a straight line, not a driving route. None of these is a walk to the ship.
Straight lines run shorter than the roads. RoL Cruise, a cruise seller’s blog, puts Orsett Hall about 5.3 miles by road and Premier Inn Thurrock East about 6.9.
Five things make a Tilbury night before easy or hard. Here the distance and the evening do most of the work. Points come from the hotel or its brand, or from the listing we name when we couldn’t read the hotel’s own site.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Booking sites don’t count, and a walking time to “the harbour” isn’t a walking time to a cruise quay.
By band, from the terminal: Chafford, Lakeside and Orsett, within 7 km, 30; Purfleet, Aveley and Horndon, to about 10 km, 25; the City by Fenchurch Street 15; Heathrow 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Nobody scores here; no hotel publishes a ride to the ship.
A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. Nobody scores here either. Best Western’s stay, park and transfer package names flights and ferries, not cruises, so it doesn’t count until the hotel says otherwise.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Nobody scores. Apex includes breakfast on one offer and Best Western on some packages, but neither says every rate does.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. Orsett Hall’s spa and the Four Seasons’ pool and spa are the biggest scores here. Best Western mentions “spa and leisure facilities” without listing any, so it doesn’t score for them.
Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to the Tilbury terminal. Premier Inn Thurrock East and Travelodge Lakeside tie on 33; the Premier Inn is a little nearer on our pins. Premier Inn Thurrock West, The Bell Inn and Best Western tie on 28 and sort the same way.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.
No hotel in our ten sells parking for a cruise. Tilbury, though, publishes a priced car park at the terminal itself.
At the terminal. Long stay is £11.00 a night including VAT, booked in advance, per Capital Cruising; about £77 for a 7-night cruise by our arithmetic. Cruises of 30 nights or more get a lower rate, and an overflow area with a free shuttle is used when it’s busy.
At the hotels. Rates for your stay, not for a cruise: Premier Inn £8 a night, Sofitel £40 a day, Four Seasons valet £75 a day. Travelodge Lakeside and The Bell Inn list free parking for your stay. Ask any of them before you leave a car for a week.
We checked a few more hotels and left them out.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| The Jolly Drayman, Gravesend | It’s across the Thames in Kent, and the Tilbury–Gravesend ferry isn’t running, per Thurrock Council. |
| citizenM Tower of London | Its pages redirected to a site we couldn’t read, so we couldn’t score it fairly. |
Heathrow is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the terminal by booked car, per City Airport Taxis, from £156.91 for a saloon. The train works with two changes and about a mile on foot.
Landing late? The Sofitel is on a walkway to Terminal 5. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes, and the airport page has the fares and the landing check.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.
