Flying In for a Puerto Williams Cruise

The airstrip is Guardiamarina Zañartu, code WPU, a short ride from town. DAP flies in from Punta Arenas each morning, Monday to Saturday in season, with a 10 kg hold limit; Silversea’s Fly Cruise guests come straight from Santiago on its charter.

The short answer

Fly into Guardiamarina Zañartu Airport (WPU). On DAP from Punta Arenas you leave at 8:00 and land mid-morning, by our reading of DAP’s timetable and the tourism board’s flight time; on Silversea’s charter from Santiago you land between noon and 1 pm and ride about 10 minutes to its hotel.

No taxi fare is published for the airstrip. Silversea includes airport transfers with its flight package, and two lodges list a free shuttle.

The weather is the risk. DAP says flights can be cancelled for it, and there’s no Sunday flight on its schedule, so a missed day can cost two.

Fly DAP from Punta Arenas if

  • You’re on a Silver Wind or Silver Cloud voyage without Silversea’s flight package
  • You can pack into 10 kg in the hold and 5 kg in the cabin, or pay the excess

Use Silversea’s flights if

  • You’re on the Antarctica Fly Cruise; the charter from Santiago is how the programme works
  • You bought the flight package, which includes airport transfers

The Ride

What the crossing from Ushuaia costs

No taxi or bus fare is published for the airstrip, so there’s nothing to calculate for the ride into town. These rows are the Beagle Channel crossings for anyone coming from Ushuaia instead.

Travelers
Ushuaia to Puerto Williams, speedboat and minibus: from US$160 plus the US$10 port fee, per person (Civitatis)—
Puerto Williams back to Ushuaia: from US$162.63 per person (Civitatis)—

One way, all in US dollars, as Civitatis lists them, read October 18, 2026. They’re a booking site’s “from” prices, not an operator’s tariff, and the US$170 row is the US$160 fare plus the US$10 port fee the listing excludes.

Fly Cruise guests don’t pay for anything here: the charter and the transfer are part of the programme, per Silversea. If you’re crossing from Ushuaia, you also clear the Chile-Argentina border, so allow time for it.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

Put your ship’s sailing time in the “Ship departs” box: Silversea lists 21:00 for Silver Wind on Day 1. No boarding cut-off is published, so the rows below are the ride and a buffer, not a line’s rule.

  • The ride from the airstripAbout 10 minutes, per Silversea. That's all the clock you need on paper — boarding closes earlier, but no time is published.—
  • Our three-hour bufferOur suggestion, not Silversea's: three hours before sailing covers bags, the ride and a late report time.—
  • Our six-hour bufferAgain ours: six hours leaves room for a held flight on the same morning, which DAP says weather can cause.—

DAP’s 8:00 departure clears all three on paper. A weather cancellation doesn’t — the next DAP flight is the next day at the earliest, and none is scheduled on Sundays. Fly in the day before.

Coming Home

The morning you’re back

Silver Cloud is listed arriving at 22:00 on January 7, 2027; DAP’s flight back to Punta Arenas leaves at 9:45, Monday to Saturday in season. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore.

There are no partner links inside this planner. It’s built only from what Silversea, DAP, Chile’s tourism board and the named hotel listings publish, plus our own map estimates. The crossing fares are a booking site’s, in US dollars.

Bags and Entry

Bags, entry and cash

DAP allows 10 kg in the hold and 5 kg in the cabin on every Puerto Williams fare, per its own route page. Excess is CLP 2,000 a kilo (DAP prints $2.000), paid at the counter. Be at the counter 90 minutes before; it closes 45 minutes before departure.

Expedition gear can be hard to fit into 10 kg. Check whether your Silversea package flies you on its own charter, and what that allows, before you pack.

US citizens on tourist passports need no visa for 90 days or less, per travel.state.gov. Bring Chilean pesos: Chile’s tourism board says not every business here takes cards. For the pier and the lines, see our Puerto Williams cruise guide.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

One night in Puerto Williams takes the weather risk off sail day. Fly Cruise guests get it built in at The Cormorant, per Silversea; on a round trip, book it yourself, or ask whether your package includes it.

Three of our six sit in town, within about 150 m of our town-centre point. Lakutaia is by the airstrip, and two lodges are a few kilometres out on the Navarino road.
