Night-Before Score
The verdict

The ibis is the simpler half of the Porto Atlântico complex. It sits the same distance from the ship as the Novotel, about 1.7 km by our map, with an all-day bar and pets welcome, per Accor.

It scores lower because Accor lists no pool, gym or sauna here. Breakfast is a buffet — though the page contradicts itself on where it’s served and never says it’s included.

Fine for a night, not a week. Take a taxi in the morning.

Book it if

  • You want the port district without the Novotel’s extras
  • A dog is coming with you

Look elsewhere if

  • A pool matters; the Novotel next door has one
  • Breakfast has to be in the rate

Getting here, and on to the ship

By our map estimate ibis Porto Atlântico is about 10.9 km from Galeão in a straight line, and about 1.7 km from Pier Mauá. Every question mark below is a ride you book yourself.

From GIG without a hotel shuttle

From Galeão, RIOgaleão’s counter-taxi table prints R$ 87 to Praça Mauá at Tariff 1 and R$ 104 at Tariff 2 (nights, Sundays and holidays). The table is undated, so confirm at the booth. Pier Mauá puts the ride at about 25 minutes without traffic. From Santos Dumont, the VLT runs straight to the terminal for R$ 5, per VLT Carioca, but it bars big bags. The airport page has the fares.

Which quay

Pier Mauá

Pier Mauá runs Rio’s international cruise terminal at Av. Rodrigues Alves 10, and the VLT stops at both ends of it. ibis Porto Atlântico is about 1.7 km from our pin for the terminal in a straight line, and about 2.2 km from Praça Mauá. Pier Mauá doesn’t say which armazém your ship uses, so treat both as estimates; the Rio cruise guide has the rest.
