The short answer

Fly into Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO). Avinor puts it 16 km from the centre and about 18 minutes by taxi, and you have three ways in: the airport bus, the light rail and a fixed-price taxi.

Bergen Taxi’s fixed fare to the centre is NOK 580 to 890, per Visit Bergen. Flybussen costs NOK 189 bought online or NOK 220 on board and takes about 30 minutes; Bybanen line 1 costs NOK 51 and takes about 45.

Which quay matters more than which ride. Ocean cruises turn around at Skolten, at the Bryggen end of the harbour; Hurtigruten’s coastal ships leave from the Jektevik Terminal, which is Flybussen’s last stop.

Take Flybussen if

  • You’re sailing Hurtigruten; it ends at the Jektevik Terminal
  • Your hotel is near one of its centre stops
  • It’s one or two of you

Take a taxi if

  • There are three or four of you to share the fixed fare
  • You land on sail day
  • Your ship is at Skolten and your bags are heavy

The Ride

What the ride to the centre costs

The taxi row is per car, Bergen Taxi’s fixed fare as Visit Bergen prints it; the bus and light-rail rows are per adult.

Travelers
Bergen Taxi fixed fare to the centre, upper end (Visit Bergen)—
Bergen Taxi fixed fare to the centre, lower end—
Flybussen, bought online, per adult (Visit Bergen)—
Bybanen line 1, per adult—

One way, in kroner, as published on October 12, 2026. Flybussen fares vary by stop, so check yours when you buy. Children through 17 ride for NOK 9, per Flybussen.

The rental desks are at the airport. A car makes little sense for a Bergen cruise unless you’re touring the fjords first, because the centre garages cap at around NOK 280 to 400 a day.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

Hurtigruten asks coastal-voyage guests to be aboard by 20:00 for the 20:30 sailing; that’s the first row. The second is our own margin, not a rule. For an ocean cruise, use your line’s cut-off from your documents.

  • Hurtigruten's latest boardingHurtigruten: be aboard by 20:00 for the 20:30 departure from the Jektevik Terminal.—
  • A ride in with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 4 hours before the ship leaves.—

Your boarding documents set your check-in time. We’d land the day before; a morning landing leaves nothing for a delayed bag, and there’s no luggage storage at the airport.

A night in Bergen first

Fly in a day early. Walk to Skolten in the morning.

We ranked sixteen hotels for a Bergen cruise, most of them a short walk from the harbour. Tell us the flight and the ship, and we’ll pick the night that fits.

Find my three picks
Coming Home

The morning you’re back

No line we read publishes a Bergen disembarkation time. Flybussen and the fixed-price taxi both run back to Flesland, about 18 minutes by taxi, per Avinor. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore; the planner sets out the ride and the wait.

Partner links (rental cars) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.

Trains and Bags

The Bergen Line, Bybanen and your suitcase

The Bergen Line from Oslo takes about seven hours, with five departures a day in summer and four in winter, per Visit Bergen, and ends at Bergen station, a short walk from Bryggen. It’s a classic rail journey, and it puts you in town the night before.

Bybanen line 1 runs between the airport and Byparken. Buy the NOK 51 ticket in the Skyss app, by text or at the platform machine; not on board. It doesn’t serve the quays.

There’s no luggage storage at Bergen Airport. In town, Tourist Information at the Fish Market keeps bags for NOK 100 an item, same day only, and Bergen station has card-only lockers, per Visit Bergen. For the quays and the lines, see our Bergen cruise guide.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

One night in Bergen takes the clock off sail day, and the city is worth the evening. Most of our sixteen are a walk from the harbour.

None runs a shuttle to the ship. Havnekontoret, Thon Orion and the Radisson have the airport bus at or near the door, and the Radisson is its last stop.
