Pre-Cruise Hotels · Bergen

The Night Before, Ranked

Sixteen hotels for a Bergen cruise, scored on what gets you to Skolten, not on reviews. Bergen is a walking city: four of these are within about 650 m of the turnaround quay, and in Norway breakfast is often in the rate, so those two things decide most of it.

Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.

The Podium

The top three

Havnekontoret wins: the closest full-service hotel to Skolten, about 450 m in a straight line, with breakfast and an evening buffet in the rate. Thon Orion is a step nearer, about 400 m, with breakfast included; Thon Rosenkrantz ties it on points and takes pets.

The Sixteen

The sixteen, in order

Narrow the sixteen by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.

Why sixteen? We checked seventeen and dropped one, Scandic Bryggen, because it’s in Honningsvåg, not Bergen.

Getting There

From the airport to the hotel, then on to the ship

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the cards below are the rides from the airport.

None of the sixteen runs an airport shuttle. Five say the airport bus stops at or near the door, and two airport hotels are a short walk from the terminal.

At a Glance

How far each pick sits from the ship

Every distance ends at Skolten, the turnaround quay for ocean cruises, and every one is a straight line between our own map pins, not a walking route. For a Hurtigruten sailing from the Jektevik Terminal, the Vågen and Fish Market hotels move closer; each hotel’s page gives both.

Walking times assume an easy pace on streets about a third longer than the straight line. Clarion Admiral is the exception: it faces Skolten across Vågen, but the walk goes round the harbour.

How We Score

The Night-Before Score, out of 100

Five things make a Bergen night before easy or hard. Here the walk to Skolten and breakfast do most of the work. Points come from the hotel’s own site or its brand’s.

Silence scores zero, not a guess. Booking sites don’t count, and a walking time to “the harbour” isn’t a walking time to a cruise quay.

30pts

Distance to the ship

By band, from Skolten: the Bryggen end, within about 800 m, 30; Vågen and the Fish Market, to about 1.4 km, 25; Ole Bull and the station 20; Flesland Airport 10. Clarion Admiral is scored with Vågen because you walk round the harbour.

25pts

Getting to the ship

A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Nobody in Bergen scores here; no hotel publishes a ride or a walk to a cruise quay.

20pts

Parking while you sail

A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. Nobody in Bergen scores here either.

10pts

Free breakfast

A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Havnekontoret, both Thons and Zander K say so. Opus XVI’s breakfast is à la carte and the hotel doesn’t promise it in every rate, so it doesn’t score.

15pts

The evening before

Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. Hotel Norge’s pool counts even though the spa charges for it.

Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to Skolten. Thon Orion takes second from Thon Rosenkrantz, both on 46, by about 250 m. Hotel Norge and Skostredet tie on 34, Norge nearer. Three tie on 28: Clarion Admiral, Det Hanseatiske and Bergen Børs, in that order of distance.

What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.

Parking Math

Where the car goes while you sail

No hotel in our sixteen sells parking for a cruise. Bergen’s answer is a city garage with a multi-day pass.

At the hotels. Day rates in nearby garages, not cruise deals: Scandic quotes KlosterGarasjen at NOK 280 to 300 per 24 hours, Hotel Norge’s garage is NOK 400, and Clarion Admiral’s from NOK 315 a night. Clarion Bergen Airport parks you free for the stay, 30 spaces.

In town. KlosterGarasjen, on Vestre Murallmenning, caps at NOK 280 a day and sells 3-, 7-, 14- and 30-day passes, per Visit Bergen. It’s the garage nearest the coastal-voyage terminal, about ten minutes on foot. Height limit 2.00 m.

Cruise nights
People riding
KlosterGarasjen at its NOK 280 daily cap, per Visit Bergen—

Our total counts each cruise night plus one day at the NOK 280 cap, so it’s a ceiling: a multi-day pass, sold by the garage, will usually cost less. Prices as Visit Bergen printed them, read October 12, 2026.

What we checked and left out

Flying In

Landing the day before?

Bergen Airport Flesland is 16 km from the centre by road, about 18 minutes by taxi, per Avinor. Bergen Taxi’s fixed fare is NOK 580 to 890; Flybussen is NOK 189 online and stops by several of these hotels.

Flying in late? The two airport hotels are a short walk from the terminal. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes, and the airport page has the fares and the landing check.

FAQ

Pre-cruise hotel FAQ

Which hotel ranks first for the night before a Bergen cruise?

On our scoring, Home Hotel Havnekontoret: about 450 m from Skolten in a straight line, with breakfast and a seasonal evening buffet in the rate, per Strawberry. Thon Hotel Orion and Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz tie for second.

Where does a Bergen cruise leave from?

Ocean cruises turn around at Skolten, north of Bergenhus fortress at the Bryggen end of the harbour. Hurtigruten’s coastal ships leave from the Jektevik Terminal, Nøstegaten 30, on Puddefjorden. Your documents name the quay.

Can I walk from a Bergen hotel to the cruise ship?

From the Bryggen end, yes: Havnekontoret, Thon Orion, the Radisson and Thon Rosenkrantz are all within about 650 m of Skolten in a straight line by our map. From the station end, take a taxi with bags.

Is breakfast included at Bergen hotels?

At four of our sixteen, per the hotels: Havnekontoret, Thon Orion, Thon Rosenkrantz and Zander K. Elsewhere, Opus XVI included, it depends on the rate you book.

Can I leave my car at a Bergen hotel while I cruise?

None of our sixteen sells cruise parking. The city garages do: KlosterGarasjen caps at NOK 280 a day and sells passes from three to 30 days, per Visit Bergen.

Which Bergen hotel has a pool?

Hotel Norge by Scandic, the only one in our list. The heated pool is in a spa that charges separately and has an age limit.
