Bergen is where most Norwegian fjords voyages begin or end, and it’s the year-round start of the coastal route north to Kirkenes. Bergen Havn, the port, runs five cruise docks: Skolten North and South, Bontelabo and Festningskaien around the Bryggen side of the harbour, and Jekteviken across town on Puddefjorden.
This page is for starting or ending a cruise here. If your ship is only calling for the day, our Bergen port-day guide covers the walk into town and our shore excursion picks cover the tours.
The city limits how busy it gets. Bergen Havn caps cruise traffic at four ships and 8,000 passengers a day, and from 2026 ships have to be able to plug into shore power to book a berth. The port planned 335 calls for 2025, 67 of them turnarounds, where a cruise starts or ends, up from 61 in 2024.
Cruise lines sailing from here
Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced, and it lives only here.
Checked against the lines’ pages, Bergen Havn’s news and sale listings on October 12, 2026. Viking is the ocean line that starts and ends cruises here: Bergen Havn has reported Viking turnarounds at Skolten, and a cruise-sale site lists Viking Libra’s “Into the Midnight Sun” from London to Bergen, June 23 to July 6, 2027, ending here; we couldn’t see it on Viking’s own site. Hurtigruten’s coastal ships leave the Jektevik Terminal every evening for Kirkenes, sailing at 20:30. Havila Voyages sails the same coast, with six-night Bergen to Kirkenes voyages and 11-night round trips. Silversea sailed Silver Dawn from Bergen to Copenhagen in 2025; we didn’t find a 2026 or 2027 Bergen departure. We found no Royal Caribbean, MSC, Norwegian, Princess or Celebrity sailings starting here. Those lines call for the day.
Sources, read October 12, 2026: bergenhavn.no (docks, news and turnaround reports), hurtigruten.com (arrival and departure), havilavoyages.com, silversea.com, and a Viking Libra 2027 listing on cruisekings.co.uk that we couldn’t match on Viking’s own site. Deployments change; confirm your own ship and date before you book around it.
Where you can go
From Bergen the coastal ships run north for six days to Kirkenes, near the Russian border, and Viking’s ocean ships head up the coast toward the North Cape and the northern lights or south to London. The stops below are ones we cover; one voyage won’t call at all of them.

Before or after the ship: Bryggen, the Hanseatic wharf, is a UNESCO World Heritage site an easy walk from Skolten. The Bergen Line train from Oslo takes about seven hours, with five departures a day in summer and four in winter, per Visit Bergen, and ends a short walk from the harbour.
Skolten, Jekteviken and the quays in between
Bergen Havn lists five cruise docks. Skolten North, 330 m long, and Skolten South are where ocean cruises turn around; the port’s own brochure calls Skolten “the turnaround terminal”, with luggage facilities on the ground floor. Bontelabo and Festningskaien, under the fortress, take ships calling for the day.
The coastal ships use the Jektevik Terminal, at Nøstegaten 30, on Puddefjorden. Hurtigruten opens it from 13:00 on departure days, takes bags from 13:00 to 14:30 and starts check-in at 15:30. Cabins are ready at 18:00, and you need to be aboard by 20:00 for the 20:30 sailing.
| Quay | Where | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Skolten North and South | Skoltegrunnskaien, north of Bergenhus fortress | The turnaround terminal for ocean cruises; Viking uses it, per Bergen Havn |
| Bontelabo | By Bradbenken, at the Bryggen end | Port-of-call berth |
| Festningskaien | Under Bergenhus fortress | Port-of-call berth, about 600 m from the Fish Market |
| Jektevik Terminal | Nøstegaten 30, on Puddefjorden | Hurtigruten’s coastal ships; bags 13:00–14:30, check-in from 15:30, sails 20:30 |

Parking, in short
There’s no cruise car park at Skolten or Jekteviken that we could find. The city garages do sell multi-day parking. KlosterGarasjen, on Vestre Murallmenning, is the one Visit Bergen puts closest to the coastal-voyage terminal, about ten minutes on foot: NOK 26 to 52 an hour, capped at NOK 280 a day, with 3-, 7-, 14- and 30-day passes and a 2.00 m height limit.
Most people sailing from Bergen fly in, and we’d do the same. If you drive, buy a multi-day pass and drop your bags at the quay first.
Getting here
Bergen Airport Flesland is 16 km from the centre, about 18 minutes by taxi in normal traffic, per Avinor. Flybussen leaves from stop A3 outside the main exit, and Bybanen, the light rail, leaves from the lower floor.
| From | Taxi | Public transport |
|---|---|---|
| BGO — airport to the centre | Bergen Taxi’s fixed fare is NOK 580 to 890, per Visit Bergen in August 2026; 20 to 30 minutes. | Flybussen, about 30 minutes to the centre: NOK 189 online or NOK 220 on board, per Visit Bergen. Bybanen line 1, about 45 minutes to Byparken: NOK 51. |

Taxis are booked at kiosks in the terminal and show the price before you go, per Avinor. There’s no luggage storage at the airport; Tourist Information at the Fish Market keeps bags for NOK 100 an item, same day only, per Visit Bergen. Flesland to the ship has the rest.
The night before, ranked: we’ve scored sixteen hotels for the night before a Bergen cruise, from the Skolten end of Bryggen to Flesland, on what each one publishes. None runs a ride to the ship. Five worth knowing:
| Hotel | Where | One thing to know |
|---|---|---|
| Havnekontoret | Slottsgaten, the Skolten end of Bryggen | No. 1: about 450 m from Skolten in a straight line, with breakfast and an evening buffet in the rate. |
| Thon Orion | Bradbenken, by Bryggen | The nearest bed to Skolten in our list, about 400 m, with breakfast included. |
| Opus XVI | Vågsallmenningen, the head of Vågen | The splurge: a restaurant and a sauna in an 1876 bank. Breakfast depends on your rate. |
| Hotel Norge | Ole Bulls plass, by the park | The only hotel in our list with a pool, and it costs extra. |
| Clarion Airport | Flyplassveien, at Flesland | About 300 m from Flesland’s terminal, for a late landing or an early flight home. |
