Night-Before Score
The verdict

Gateway is sixth on 40, three points behind Marco Polo Hongkong and fifteen behind Prince. The pins say it's about 0.4 km from Ocean Terminal in a straight line — but our driving route is 0.8 miles through the one-way streets, so it misses our half-mile walk rule.

The hotel gives no walking time — so we haven't invented one. All three Marco Polo hotels in Harbour City print the same airport options in their FAQs: a limousine at HK$930 (about US$120) a vehicle, booked ahead, a taxi at HK$350 to HK$420 (about US$45–55), the Airport Express to Kowloon Station and then a taxi, or Citybus A21 or A25.

Dining is Three on Canton, all-day international on Level 3, and Be on Canton, an al fresco terrace. Check-in is 15:00, check-out 12:00. The page doesn't say whether breakfast is included or whether there's a pool.

Pick it for an Ocean Terminal sailing if a short taxi for the last stretch doesn't bother you. For Kai Tak it's 5.5 road miles and 12 minutes by taxi — so look at Holiday Inn Express CBD2 instead.

Book it if

  • Ocean Terminal is your berth and you want the airport options in print
  • A terrace for a last cocktail appeals
  • You already know the Canton Road streets

Look elsewhere if

  • Breakfast has to be confirmed first.
  • Kai Tak is your terminal.
  • A pool should be on the page.
